Topanga Banjo and Fiddle Contest

Fid3When I think about Malibu, its usually on the order of Moonshadows, Surfrider Beach or expensive real estate listings. So, a few weeks ago while reading up on the Santa Monica National Recreation Area, I was surprised to discover a listing about a banjo and fiddle contest being held at the Paramount Ranch. It turns out, this wasn’t just any contest but rather…

The 47th annual Topanga Banjo and Fiddle Contest! This event has quite a history. You can wander throughout the ranch whereupon you’ll find multiple stages of performances, a stage for dancing (clog, contra, square and Scottish Country) as well as plenty of spontaneous jams. I spent a good portion of the day sitting in the shade, listenting to music and daydreaming about long rights at Surfrider where I’m the only guy in the lineup…

If you happen to find yourself in the area next year, definitely check out this event.
