Organic Cotton

In 1996, with an increased awareness of the dangers of pesticide use and synthetic fertilizers in growing conventional cotton, we began the exclusive use of organically grown cotton in all of our cotton products.

The quality of organic cotton is equal to or better than conventionally grown cotton, yet organically grown methods support biodiversity and healthy ecosystems, improve the quality of soil and often use less water. Growing organically takes more time, requires more knowledge and skill, and, for now, costs more. But it’s worth it.

To ensure we are buying cotton that is organic as defined by the USDA’s National Organic Program, we require numerous certificates issued by an accredited third-party certification body for every step of the supply chain, from farm to factories.

Hemp

Hemp is an alternative natural fiber that’s cultivated with low impact on the environment. It requires no irrigation, uses no pesticides or synthetic fertilizers, and is harvested and processed by hand. It’s one of the most durable natural fibers on the planet, and results in a fabric with a wonderful drape, comparable to linen.

Unfortunately, industrial hemp is illegal to grow in most parts of the world because government agencies continue to associate it with marijuana. We currently import our high-quality hemp from China, and continue to hope that it might someday grow freely again.

Patagonia makes garments with hemp alone or blended with other fibers like recycled polyester, organic cotton and spandex.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great casual shorts I'm 6'2" with a 34 inch waist and the large fits perfectly. They're a little bit loose but extremely comfortable. The cotton and hemp blend is really wonderful and cool in the Texas summer. I would highly recommend this to anyone. I also use it for picking up kids, running errands, drinking beer and traveling.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from fit is good, fabric is good, shorts are good fit is good- slightly smaller than regular baggies. I generally wear an xl and the regular baggies feel like they're falling off sometimes (i could practically wear a large). In these the xl is a good, slimmer, fit for me. Love the fabric though- really good for casual use like yoga or just walking the dog. feels like I'm wearing undies but no weird looks from the neighbors

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful feel I like to practice yoga about two hours daily and got these baggies to help bring more comfort to my routine. I got these shorts in hopes that they would feel like the regular baggies but, that they would be softer and not have the underwear liner. These shorts went above my expectations. They have a soft yet durable feel due to the hemp/cotton mix. I am 6 foot 1in and weight about 140 pounds. My waist is right at 30 inches so I got the size small, they fit absolutely perfectly! They are great with or without underwear and can be worn in and out of the house. What more could you want ?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ultimate "House" Short For me, the fit is perfect! I got the Navy Blue color and it's definitely a unique, seemingly exclusive, color for these shorts. Feel is incredibly soft. I like these shorts because they provide the simplicity of a classic Baggy short, but with a new element of comfort and relaxation. Obviously I won't be swimming, going on the river, or doing strenuous activities in these, but if you're looking for a very casual pair of shorts that will company you on walks on the beach, trips to the grocery store, and breakfast along the coast, this is it! These shorts are meant for those who want to throw something on really quick when going out, still feel comfortable and also feel intentionally underdressed (yet more-than-okay to go outside for errands), and keep them on when you go home!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Runs large These run large so 34=36 waist. The inseam in too long when worn. They fit too low in the crotch area and feel funny when walk. When you tie the cord it has a tendency to slip right before you tie it so it takes a few tries to get the waist tied just right. The material is soft and great for shorts like these. A work in progress.
