Wind can take your plans and scatter them across three counties. The versatile Retro-X® has the wind-stopping ability to block the gusts coming off the Medicine Bow range and the fortitude for burly ranch work. Its thick 100% polyester (86% recycled) Synchilla® fleece face is soft and supple. A moisture-wicking, brushed-mesh lining and a windproof/breathable barrier cut cold and wind faster than a tumbler of scotch. With Y-Joint sleeves for mobility, a vertical zippered chest pocket made of Supplex® nylon and zippered handwarmer pockets lined with brushed poly mesh. At the end of the day, use a bunched-up Retro-X Jacket as a pillow. Hip length.
  • Windproof membrane bonded between a 100% polyester (86% recycled) Synchilla® fleece exterior and a moisture-wicking 100% polyester brushed mesh interior
  • Full-zip jacket with internal wind flap; Y-Joint sleeves provide better mobility through the shoulders and arms
  • Pockets: vertical zippered chest pocket made of nylon; zippered handwarmers lined with brushed polyester mesh
  • Hip length
  • 7.5-oz Synchilla® 100% polyester (86% recycled) ¼" pile. Lining: 100% brushed polyester mesh with a windproof barrier. Trim: 100% nylon

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Classic Still a classic, and still great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versatile, timeless, durable, could look better What I like is how more versatile this jacket is compared to more technical models like a Regulator R3 for example. You can use it for hiking/camping, downtown, when chopping wood outside and so on. I like the very 90's feel of the front pocket. The windproof layer is definitely totally windproof. The side pockets are pleasantly located, maybe an inch too high. The collar protects my neck very well and doesn't have a bulky hood. The only thing I would reproach is the fact that it's a bit too ample and short compared to more recent models, which means you lose some insulation around the belt, especially when seated. This more "horizontal" shape compared to more recent Patagonia fleeces gives it a typically 90's look, which you will like or not, it's really a personal thing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Always my favorite... Retro-X has always been the most versatile of the stuff in my P-collection. Some subtle improvements on this one like a storm flap on the zipper side which should help keep it from folding back on itself. NOW...if we could just offer a NON-WINDPROOF one again. I am down to my last real Classic Retro-X and it's getting a little worn. hint, hint, hint......

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fit Experience This is my first Retro-X Jacket after having a number of other Patagonia products over the past 24 years - including a similar Patagonia retro pile jacket that I got 22 years ago and still wear. I want to share my experience on fit of the jacket after reading numerous reviews on how it fit others. I'm 5'7" 179 lbs athletic frame with 42" barrel chest/33" arms/16.5" neck. For reference: in a Synchilla Snap-T I wear Medium but could really use a Large. Based on others fit reviews stating the Retro-X sizing runs big, I INITIALLY ordered a Small. The jacket arrived and I excitedly tried it on: very very snug (forget anything more than a thin t-shirt), arm length perfect, overall length decent, good fit around waist, constricting in the neck when fully zipped, way too tight in the chest and shoulders. Ended up returning the Small and ordering a Medium which just arrived and fits much better. Though I fluctuate between Mediums and Large shirts/jackets depending on the cut, I would say this jacket runs true to size. Looking forward to wearing this great, warm, jacket before spring arrives.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for Spring fishing and any outdoor work I purchased this jacket about a month ago and have worn it in snow and other cold and windy days. The wind blocker works great and the coat has the perfect relaxed fit. This means there is room for a heavy wool shirt or sweater. I'm 5'11" and 180 pounds and bought a large. I do believe even with all the great Patagonia down jackets that I own, this coat will come out on top because it is NOT FRAGILE.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the best pieces of equipment that I use I got my first retro jacket in 1995. I still wear it regularly. It has had a few zippers and the pockets redone by Patagonia at no charge. I've worn it snow skiing, sailing and bicycle riding. I put it on for a morning chill often with nothing underneath. It has been an awesome outer layer and been a perfect under layer when sailing offshore in big wind and water with offshore foul weather gear over it. Leaving Newport RI in November can be quite chilly until we cross the Gulf Stream going South to BVI. Being wind proof it has been my jacket of choice when sailing at night when it's chilly. The pockets are great for a flashlight, hand bearing compass or even a PB

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm in near zero winds Purchased this jacket before the winter season and I am very happy with how it performed. Kept me nice and warm in temperatures as low as 10 degrees with harsh winds.. Very good wind resistance as well. Originally ordered an XL but had to return it for a Large (I am about 210 lbs 6'2"). My only complaint is the stiffness of the material makes it a little uncomfortable in some parts, especially the armpits. I usually wear only a t-shirt under it no problem but anything more tends to bag up and irritate the armpits and limit arm mobility a bit. Besides that, this jacket is great and I can see it easily lasting me a lifetime.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Jacket I was debating between a Medium and a Large. I'm 6'1" and about 170 pounds, so I sway between M
