On frigid alpine climbs the world over, our DAS Parka is as ubiquitous as iron-hard ice, showers of spindrift and the screaming barfies. Its well-sculpted fit maximizes warmth (while still sized as a belay parka) with lofty warm-when-wet 120-g PrimaLoft® Silver Insulation Hi-Loft throughout and an additional layer of 60-g PrimaLoft® Gold Insulation Eco wrapping the torso. The lightweight, PU-coated nylon ripstop shell (with DWR finish) is durable, water-resistant and windproof. A single-pull, adjustable, helmet-compatible hood and a tall collar trap extra heat. A few fine points: zippered and insulated handwarmer pockets; a zippered chest pocket; large interior mesh pockets for drying gloves; elasticized cuffs; a drawcord drop-tail hem; and a 2-way zip (with internal, insulated wind flap) that lets you see your belay device. Stuffsack included.

  • Helmet-compatible hood with visor and single-pull drawcord to adjust overall volume and peripheral vision

Water Resistant

DWR
(durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Insulation

We use PrimaLoft® insulation inside insulated garments for its warmth, compressibility, and soft comfort. While the human body uses energy to stay warm, PrimaLoft insulation uses a patented microfiber structure to help the body retain warmth and conserve energy.

The proprietary ultra-fine fibers of PrimaLoft insulation form a tight collection of air pockets that trap heat from your body and keep the cold out, providing an excellent warmth-to-weight ratio. When insulation gets wet, it loses these air pockets and consequently, its insulating properties. PrimaLoft ultra-fine fibers were developed to be water resistant so your insulation stays drier and maintains its insulating properties even when wet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't beat 'em, join em! I returned my old das parka bc the zipper kept splitting from the bottom until it eventually failed. I like that your designers fixed the problem with a zipper that moves up from the bottom instead of completely separating the zipper track

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Kept me warm in the 20s! This is my first Patagonia jacket, not to mention first jacket of this kind. I got it as a gift for a trip to Iceland (30s and 40s with light rain) with a stop in Norway (20s and dry). In both places, this kept my core warm. This was my third layer but I feel like it would have been sufficient with only two layers paired with gloves and a beanie. It's very puffy, too! It became too toasty once indoors. I would definitely recommend this! I wish it came in more than two colors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My "go to" winter Jacket Great all around winter jacket. Very warm, yet packable in my small ski pack. I am 6'2", 180 lbs. and the large is the right size to fit over all my layers. Better than down for the PNW.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warmest coat that I have ever worn! When I first got this coat I was a little skeptical. It was so light that I didn't think it would be warm. I wore it out on a very cold Massachusetts day when the temperature was 9 degrees. I was only wearing a t-shirt under it yet I was so warm. It feels like you're not wearing anything it's so light.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Warm, but strange features I'm a 5'10 woman and got the medium, I prefer mens jackets because they tend to be longer in there arms and waist. It fits great! Except a few features that has got me considering returning it. The most annoying part is the zipper zips up just too short to cover my chin, so instead it sits right below my chin rubbing back and forth when I turn my head. Maybe this wont matter to you, but its much more annoying than it sounds. If it zipped up a bit higher, it would also do better at keeping the cold winter air out. I want to return it but I don't know what to get instead. For this amount of money there's got to be something that fits better. Try it on in stores before you buy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very warm, happy husband I bought this for my husband, who often works outdoors. He is always telling me how incredibly warm it is. He has had it for a year, and is still telling me this. He is very happy with it. He looks great in it as well, so we are both happy. :)

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing Fit According to the size chart, I should fit perfectly in a small. As this is a belay parka, I expect it to fit over my other layers (traditional mountaineering system: light insulation/fleece/R1 hoody, midweight insulation/nano-puff, and a hardshell). Unfortunately, the under arms are way too snug to accommodate anything more than a light fleece, especially if wearing a helmet. I've read that the earlier model was much better suited for a belay parka as far as fit goes, and that would make sense, as it seems Patagonia is focusing more on the city wear demographic than products meant for any actual use in the mountains.
