On frigid alpine climbs the world over, our DAS Parka is as ubiquitous as iron-hard ice, showers of spindrift and the screaming barfies. Its well-sculpted fit maximizes warmth (while still sized as a belay parka) with lofty warm-when-wet 120-g PrimaLoft® Silver Insulation Hi-Loft throughout and an additional layer of 60-g PrimaLoft® Gold Insulation Eco wrapping the torso. The lightweight, PU-coated nylon ripstop shell (with DWR finish) is durable, water-resistant and windproof. A single-pull, adjustable, helmet-compatible hood and a tall collar trap extra heat. A few fine points: zippered and insulated handwarmer pockets; a zippered chest pocket; large interior mesh pockets for drying gloves; elasticized cuffs; a drawcord drop-tail hem; and a 2-way zip (with internal, insulated wind flap) that lets you see your belay device. Stuffsack included.

Water Resistant

DWR
(durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Insulation

We use PrimaLoft® insulation inside insulated garments for its warmth, compressibility, and soft comfort. While the human body uses energy to stay warm, PrimaLoft insulation uses a patented microfiber structure to help the body retain warmth and conserve energy.

The proprietary ultra-fine fibers of PrimaLoft insulation form a tight collection of air pockets that trap heat from your body and keep the cold out, providing an excellent warmth-to-weight ratio. When insulation gets wet, it loses these air pockets and consequently, its insulating properties. PrimaLoft ultra-fine fibers were developed to be water resistant so your insulation stays drier and maintains its insulating properties even when wet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very warm, happy husband I bought this for my husband, who often works outdoors. He is always telling me how incredibly warm it is. He has had it for a year, and is still telling me this. He is very happy with it. He looks great in it as well, so we are both happy. :)

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing Fit According to the size chart, I should fit perfectly in a small. As this is a belay parka, I expect it to fit over my other layers (traditional mountaineering system: light insulation/fleece/R1 hoody, midweight insulation/nano-puff, and a hardshell). Unfortunately, the under arms are way too snug to accommodate anything more than a light fleece, especially if wearing a helmet. I've read that the earlier model was much better suited for a belay parka as far as fit goes, and that would make sense, as it seems Patagonia is focusing more on the city wear demographic than products meant for any actual use in the mountains.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Jacket with Endless Possibilities I bought the DAS Parka primarily to deal with cold winter weather in NJ. Having owned it for 2 seasons now, it lives up to the hype. I wear this jacket in -10º blizzard conditions, or just a cold day. No matter what, it keeps me warm. However, everyday winter use is not all that I use it for. I've taken this jacket hiking and climbing throughout the PNW. There, I used it primarily as an outer layer while at the campsite when winter camping or as a belaying piece on Mt. Hood. One winter camp trip it was forecasted to snow in buckets, but ended up pouring rain. Even soaked, the synthetic build of the DAS Parka kept me warm. 5'8", 150lbs. The Medium is a perfect fit that is still roomy enough for mid layers and climbing gear underneath, over everyday winter clothing, or to pop on over your entire alpine climbing setup. 10/10.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent and very functional I Use the Das Parka on winter walls and back country skiing. Keeps me warm as I ski through out the Sierra Nevada backcountry all winter and spring. Also Enjoy doing Yosemite and Zion big walls in the winter, in marginal weather when you can get wet. Das Parka does the job. A solid performer when you have to stay warm...definitely recommend it!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I don't really know how I feel about this jacket This jacket is hard to find in Alaska to try on! I really wanted one because I heard a lot of awesome things about this jacket, and as a backcountry ski patrol member, I wanted a big synthetic I could put on when I stopped, and down was not an option in case it got wet. Honestly I don't know how I feel about it. I found a medium in a store to try on, and the fit was weird. I am 5'10" and 195 pounds. My body is weird in that I have broad shoulders and really big thighs and glutes. I have a 32 waist but have to wear 34 or more pants so they're not so tight around my legs. Anyway, I tried this jacket on over my shell and found it to be tight in the shoulders when I hugged myself, and that it was loose in the belly, but tight around my butt because of the longer cut, so I figured that if I ordered a large online, everything would buff out. well I was somewhat correct, The large gives me LOTS of room to layer. Because this has a long cut, the hem comes down to about the bottom of my seat meat and there is lots of room in the belly and it looks like I have a HUGE gut. If I use the cinch cord to tighten it around my waist and then pull the rest of the jacket down, every time I bend over, I squeeze all the air our and can feel it rush past my face (kind of like when I burp my dry suit) However, the times that I have used it when I stopped, it did keep me warm. Sometimes I like to wear a puffy on the decent to stay a little warmer, but with such a long cut, I don't think it will work out so great. Only because personally the less clothing and materials I have flopping and blowing in the wind the happier I am. If it were perhaps looser in the chest I wouldn't mind because when I have a radio harness on, it will take up the room. I think the belly may be so big because Patagonia planned on people putting big things in the internal drop pockets to dry/keep warm and they accounted for that room by making belly bigger?

Rated 2 out of 5 by from High hopes but disappointed I bought a DAS Parka for New York City winters and it performed well in cold days. The biggest issue I had with my jacket were all the zippers on the jacket. The zippers would get stuck with the outer lining of the jacket. This happened several times. After the 10th time, I returned it and Patagonia was kind enough to return my money.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 2010 It is the first time I rate a Patagonia product less than 5 stars. I wear nothing but Patagonia. I cannot understand why the most perfect DAS Parka from previous years has morphed into this strange version. The previous model was phenomenally warm and soft and packed small and flat. Its zippers were buttery both ways, and fast. It was compressible and moved with you. It felt on you exactly as light as the inimitable Nano Puff. Its hood contoured your head and also laid flat on your back. The fabric did not make "noise." Sometimes you just cannot improve on perfection and this is one experiment demonstrating that. I am sorry but - please - bring back the older version exactly as it was.
