Additional Information

Inspired by Hawaiiana but far from traditional, our fun-loving Pataloha® collection blends the spirit of the Islands with our own surfing, climbing and fishing heritage. With a more modern design that offers featherweight comfort in warmer climes, the Malihini Pataloha Shirt is made from a cool-wearing 100% organic cotton plain weave.

When we started making Pataloha® shirts 30 years ago, we hoped to restore the intent of the original, hand-sewn Hawaiian designs: Formal wear for people who’d never be found at the haberdasher’s, no matter the occasion. Since then, we’ve taken our inspiration from many unique prints and patterns we’ve found while traveling the world in search of the best surfing, climbing, fishing and fun hogging. This season we’ve taken a different approach, creating original prints inspired by mālama ‘āina, the Hawaiian tradition of care and protection for the land. Made from a soft, 2.2-oz 100% organic cotton plain weave that offers lightweight comfort in warmer weather, the Malihini Pataloha Shirt has a slimmer and more contemporary fit with a turned-down collar, single left-chest pocket, coconut buttons and shirttail hem.

Organic Cotton

In 1996, with an increased awareness of the dangers of pesticide use and synthetic fertilizers in growing conventional cotton, we began the exclusive use of organically grown cotton in all of our cotton products.

The quality of organic cotton is equal to or better than conventionally grown cotton, yet organically grown methods support biodiversity and healthy ecosystems, improve the quality of soil and often use less water. Growing organically takes more time, requires more knowledge and skill, and, for now, costs more. But it’s worth it.

To ensure we are buying cotton that is organic as defined by the USDA’s National Organic Program, we require numerous certificates issued by an accredited third-party certification body for every step of the supply chain, from farm to factories.
