Sometimes rain is cold and sometimes it’s bone-soaking cold. We made our Insulated Torrentshell for days of sideways precipitation and uncivilized temps. A 2-layer H2No® Performance Standard waterproof/breathable nylon ripstop shell keeps the water out; 60-g PrimaLoft® Silver Insulation Eco polyester insulation keeps your heat in. The interior quilt pattern on the waterproof winter jacket holds the insulation in place for durability, and the fully adjustable hood has a laminated visor (doubles as a rain spout). Coated, watertight zippers close the center-front and all exterior pockets (exterior: two handwarmers, one chest; interior: one zippered and one drop-in). Hook-and-loop cuffs and a dual-adjust drawcord hem seal-out the elements.
  • H2No® Performance Standard 2-layer nylon ripstop shell with a waterproof/breathable barrier and a DWR (durable water repellent) finish
  • 60-g PrimaLoft® Silver Insulation Eco uses 70%-recycled-fiber technology with a proprietary water-repellent treatment for low-bulk warmth, even in wet weather
  • Internal quilt pattern holds insulation in place for durability
  • Helmet-compatible, fully adjustable hood with laminated visor for visibility in bad conditions
  • Watertight, coated zippers at center front and on all exterior pockets
  • Pockets: two handwarmers, one exterior left chest, one internal zippered pocket, one internal drop-in
  • Self-fabric hook-and-loop cuff closures and dual-adjust drawcord hem seal out the elements
  • H2No® Performance Standard Shell: 2-layer, 2.6-oz 50-denier 100% nylon ripstop with a waterproof/breathable barrier. Insulation: 60-g PrimaLoft® Silver Insulation Eco 100% polyester (70% recycled). Lining: 1.4-oz 22-denier 100% recycled polyester. Shell and lining have a DWR (durable water repellent) finish

Water Resistant

DWR
(durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Weatherproof

2-layer H2No® Performance Standard shell fabrics are completely waterproof, windproof and breathable.

Designed for a wide range of uses, from backpacking to snowboarding, 2-layer H2No® Performance Standard shell fabrics utilize a taffeta or mesh lining rather than a bonded scrim to protect the waterproof/breathable barrier. The lining increases the garments wicking ability, durability and next-to-skin comfort.

2-layer H2No® Performance Standard shell fabrics are coated with DWR
(durable water repellent) fabric finish that repels light rain and snow. In conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

All products bearing the H2No mark have been vigorously tested for durability in our Killer Wash.

Women's Insulated Torrentshell Jacket is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful jacket, slightly slimmer than before This is a beautiful, well-made jacket with a stunning red ("Sumac") color. It's a great weight for walking/ hiking/ cycling in the rain. I like the contrasting maroon insulation on the inside. My biggest complaint about this jacket (and about other current Patagonia pieces) is that it has a somewhat slimmer fit than the older version of this jacket. I got that jacket in 2010 (then called the Nanostorm), and wore it until the zippers wore out. I asked Patagonia to repair the zippers, but they said it would be easier to just exchange the jacket for a new one. The new one fits well in the arms and shoulders but is slightly slimmer cut in the torso, which makes the jacket harder to layer and a bit more difficult to move around in. I still think I'll wear the jacket a lot, but I wish Patagonia would relax their jacket cut a bit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent for hiking I bought this jacket originally to use for our fishing lodge business when I was out on the river with clients. Worked great all season, but never got to use it on rainy days. Put it to the test today on my daughters 6th grade field trip and it rocked! Torrential down pour for a RT 5 mile hike to the Russian River falls. I was snug and dry. I only wore a thin base layer and I was incredibly comfortable. Thank you...this is now my go to jacket!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I needed I got the dark currant, which the color was just as pictured. The medium fits perfect-I am 5'3" and 125 lbs for reference. I wanted some room for layering and it is just right (also have broader shoulders). Although it is so warm I don't think I am going to need to layer! It is so light and comfortable-perfect for watching freezing, wet spring baseball here. So happy I got it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very pleased After sending back the large, I bought a medium, which was a much better fit. Apart from the teal green color (which incidentally, does look turquoise in photos), I couldn't be more pleased with this coat. It is very warm, lightweight, totally windproof and waterproof... such a relief after a winter of heavier coats. It is the perfect coat for New England freezing, windy and drizzly end-of-winter weather. I hope Patagonia decides to make this in parka length... With high boots you would be all set for whatever winter threw your way.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Color not as shown I want to keep this coat, but I just can't!... even though it is incredibly comfortable, warm and lightweight. The color I ordered on the webpage is turquoise with a white zipper; the jacket that arrived is teal green, with a light green zipper (and as it turns out, my least favorite color). Not remotely similar. I think this coat would be perfect for not too cold winter conditions, or chilly autumn and fall. It is very thin and feels great on. However, the cut does nothing for my figure. It looks like it is cut for a man. Oddly big in the chest, tighter around the hips. I am a woman, 5'5", 140 lbs, and I ordered a large, based on recommendations by Patagonia customer service. ( I wear a medium in the down vest.) The large Torrentshell is a bit large for me, the arms are too long (which I don't mind), it leaves room for layering and it covers my bum, which is also nice... but the cut is just very unflattering for my particular figure. My husband tried it on and it looked great on him... just a bit too small! I hope Patagonia will redesign this coat so that it is more flattering for a woman's figure. I have been searching for a long time for a lighter-than-winter jacket that is insulated... this seems perfect other than above issues.
