We reformulated our Yulex® material, making it lighter, stretchier and more comfortable. A more secure alternative to bikini bottoms, the formfitting, neoprene-free R1® Lite Yulex Shorts are made of 1.5mm 85% natural rubber/15% synthetic rubber by polymer content. Tapped from sources that are Forest Stewardship Council® certified by the Rainforest Alliance, we blend the natural rubber with chlorine-free synthetic rubber to increase ozone- and UV-resistance and meet our rigorous standards for strength and durability. The interior lining is stretchy and fast-drying 100% recycled polyester, with 88% recycled polyester/12% spandex on the exterior. The exterior fabric and interior lining are now solution-dyed—using 86% less water than conventional dyeing—and are laminated with water-based AquaA™ glue that’s free from harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Worn in your usual swimsuit size, the fit conforms to the body for comfort and flexibility while an elasticized waistband helps keep the shorts snugly in place. The single back pocket has a handy key loop; seams are sewn with flatlock construction for next-to-skin comfort. Made in a Fair Trade Certified™ facility. Suggested water temperatures: 65–75° F/18–23° C.

We stand behind everything we make, including our wetsuits. But wetsuits require care if they are going to perform and wear the way they were intended. Patagonia is not responsible for wetsuits that are abused or show normal wear and tear over time. Scratches and fading are inevitable, as are tears from the occasional close call with a fin. Biorubber

Our renewable Yulex natural rubber is tapped from hevea trees that can produce rubber for over 30 years; it replaces conventional, nonrenewable neoprene. The raw natural rubber comes form sources that are Forest Stewardship Council certified by the Rainforest Alliance - meaning the trees aren't grown on newly clear-cut rainforest land, like some of the world's supply. By replacing neoprene with natural rubber, we're reducing CO2 emissions by up to ~80% in the manufacturing process.
