Functional

Love the color, style, and the zipper feature for use with my hiking vest. Runs slightly small

Perfect fit

Being tall and thin (6'5", 190lbs), I was concerned about the sleeve length and waist size. Both are just right, which is a very rare occurrence.

great jacket bad stuff sack

i love this jacket. its super water proof and the zippers allow for a lot of breath ability. however the stuff sack pocket in the hood has already started to unravel pretty much rendering it useless. a repair will only last for so long in the spot that its in. a zipper pocket would have been a much better design. there's a perfect spot for one... Love this jacket, hood could be bigger

I wear a large in another jacket but this one felt like the large was too big. I wear a medium in my Patagonia running shirts and that is a better baseline. Overall I love the jacket but the hood could a tad bigger.

Slick design

Lightweight, didnt wet out in Iceland, great zippers, no pockets. I just traveled Iceland with this and loved it. The hood is a wonderful shape, the zippers work very well, and you can protect your lips from wind burn. If I could add to he jacket it would be an anorak style pocket in the front, and a self-cinching band in the back lower hem. ... Mens Storm Racer Jacket

this is one cool piece, dual front zippers, nice color, fits perfect, super lightweight. Will use it this fall here in northern Co. Still too hot here in Sept, as we have no rain. But this will keep me dry!!

Gimmick That Doesn't Work Well

I wanted to like this jacket. It's super light with taped seams and zippers. The design sounds like a great idea in theory: dual zippers for bottle access and ventilation. It just doesn't work. First, I don't understand the comments about it running small or the slim fit. I wear a Large in everything and this jacket is on the larger ... Read Moreside both in room and length. It's longer than a standard running jacket and easily fits over a pack. However, I would never wear the jacket for anything but running with a pack underneath. The dual zippers and bottom snap make it unusable for any other purpose. The neckline is too high and as soon as you unzip both sides, the hood starts to fall back on your shoulders and will flop around when running. The single bottom snap leaves a large open gap at the bottom of the jacket; why did they not add a velcro tab or another small snap? This jacket might work for hiking but not for running. If it had a single zipper, it would serve multiple purposes and I would buy it. As-is, I had to return it.

Hey Brad, thank you for the feedback. We're sorry to hear that it didn't work out this time. This jacket is meant to act as a quick layer for when the weather turns while running in the mountains, most of the features are designed with this in mind. The jacket does have a slim fit, you can see the type of fit for an item underneath the size range on the product page. It is odd that it ended up being large for you. The snap bottom is meant to improve ease when putting on the jacket, and the zippers up top are intended to provide access to water bottles or whatever else might be in your pack. The neckline goes high to protect the face and neck from the elements. Nonetheless, it didn't fit your needs, we're glad you were able to send it back. If you're still in the market for a quick layer, you might find that the [Men's Houdini Jacket](https://www.patagonia.com/product/mens-houdini-windbreaker-jacket/24142.html?dwvar_24142_color=WAVB&cgid=sport-trail-running-mens) is a better fit.

Great jacket, but I expected a bit bigger

I was thinking the jacket would allow for a fully packed ultra vest to be worn under, and while it does... it's more snug than I expected. If you're on the fence for sizing, I'd recommend sizing up

Featherweight Waterproof

A near-perfect top layer to block wind and water, the lightest I've ever touched. I carry it stowed on most runs these days in case I guess wrong about layering needs in the highly variable northern Virginia winter weather. The zippers are a little fussy and not easy to engage when wearing thick mittens or with cold hands. I guess that's ... Read Morethe tradeoff for a waterproof zip. So far, I've had comfortable protection when running in 35 degree rainstorms and 20 degree windstorms. Like all hooded jackets there is significant and distracting swooshing noise in my ears when running with the hood up; not sure if that's the jacket rubbing itself or perhaps my glasses or hydro pack. My other Patagonia base layers and jackets are all size S, a perfect fit for my frame (6', 160lb, 40in chest, 31in waist). I'm glad I ordered the M in this jacket: I need the room for my hydration pack which has two front soft bottles and a water bag in back for longer runs. The two-zip design works as advertised for access and heat-dumping. I would have preferred red, more visible in the winter, but the brightly saturated blue is attractive enough. Unrelated to this product: all center-zip tops should have two-way zippers. Period. It's important to mitigate fit issues around the hips and to permit flexible heat dumping. Why does Patagonia not get this? And, if I could only find a product that keeps my nose warmer without causing my glasses to fog...

If a Breastfeeding Top and The Perfect Tech Jacket Had a Baby

When I tried on my Storm Racer for my wife, she immediately said That is just like my breastfeeding tops. With its dual sided zipper configuration, it does give access to my front water bottles. And the dual zipper system gives it a cool look that I would say is fashion trendy. As for function it is great. I have already worn it in 40+ mph winds on... Read More the top of Mt Humphreys and in the rain in the Grand Canyon. It kept my dry and warm, and when the weather changed, I could zip it all the way down to keep cool. It performed perfectly in both cases, providing just the right combination of light weight and functional performance. Highly recommend it.

Super cold

Water just sticks to the jacket. Went on an adventure and it was barely raining and the coat got trenches. I get that it is a thin layer but definitely a waste of money.

Staying Dry in PNW

Great water/wind proof lightweight jacket. The best feature are the zippers which allows access to soft flasks in my hydration vest. Currently using Ultimate Directions marathon vest and I can easily wear the jacket with flasks and long straws with the rest of my gear. The jacket looks cool also and extremely well thought out.

Genius level awesome

When I received this I was honestly skeptical. I've bought gear before that 'seemed' to be what I was looking for, but was ultimately let down in one way or another. This on the other hand is perfect. Extremely light. Super breathable (ran 10 miles with zero moisture build up inside). Sealed seams. Packs down small. Well thought out... Multi purpose almost perfect

I have been trail running in this jacket for about two months now in the Pacific North West in the Cascades. I also use the Slope runner running vest that works well with this jacket. Some key points on functionality. Fit: provides plenty of room for extra layers and a running vest packed with water, food, extra layers and gloves. Also allows for ... Read Morecarrying poles on the vest. Ventilation: the dual zips allow for venting and as you lower them it allows flow around your arm pits venting heat and moisture appropriately. Better than I expected and even bett than other jacked I own with pit zips. Bottom snap locks things down and glad they opted to not have a draw string as this just gets in the way. It could use a second snap to lock down even further. I like the longer lengths as it keep me warmer. It could be an inch or two longer to further promote warmth and also allows water to drip below my shorts that are under my Houdini Pants. I find it easy to take off and put back on multiple times To regulate my body temperature and sweat during my running adventures. Zippers: they are long a very easy to access except if you are wearing gloves that I find a requirement when running in the cold, rain and snow. I modified the zipper pulls to include a small plastic washer I created after cutting the bottom off an orange plastic wire lock. Works great now that I can grab the zipper with gloves or even mittens over my gloves. Packability: it packs down super small and easily stuffs in the back of my Slope Runner vest. Waterproofing: so far it works great to shed water and keep me dry. Better to use your hood early when it starts to pour buckets. I where a hat with a brim to help keep water off my face since the hood does not have a built in visor . Been running trails for 25 years under many diverse conditions and this jacket has the features I find better than anything else in my poor weather arsenal for traveling light and fast. Definitely worth a close look for the discerning trail runner.

Excellent wet weather run protection

I purchased this jacket early in 2020 for its ability to layer over a running vest, easy venting from the dual zippers, waterproof layer, and packability. It checks all of those boxes and does them well. I did not have many opportunities to use it this year, but as the wetter fall came on I found it excelled elegantly through rain, wind, and then k... Read Morenee deep snow on our local ridgeline without getting too hot. Sleeve length for me is just right, covering my wrists without being tight, the hood fits well, the jacket does not bounce around in use, and the vest underneath stays dry and water less likely to freeze. The offset zippers take getting used to as they feel very different from a conventional jacket, and being small pulls I am inclined to be careful with them but had no issues thus far and I like the innovative design for this purpose. Given how I have ventured too minimally in the past I appreciate this lightweight and functional insurance for ultrarunning.

Trail Running Beast Clothing!

Thank you Patagonia Pittsburgh for the advice with this new jacket! I hate being wet because it just leads to being cold on the trail. Currently running in a UltraSense5 and AdvSkin12 hydration packs by S... Read Morealomon and this jacket covers both packs fully equipped (minus poles for tearing reasons) with bite valve extender straws in place on the hydration chest bladders...still room to be comfortable without the jacket blowing around like a tent flap that wasn't pegged down or a piggy in a blanket. Testing...two runs in the jacket and worked well shielding the loaded pack from 28* temps with sleet and and snow. Completely dry and waterproof and the zippers allowed to dump heat are super awesome. Also note that right side of the jacket has the ability to zip through so you can take it off like a normal jacket (as opposed to a hoody); picture on website doesn't really show this detail.
