I had high hopes for this jacket. I wanted a waterproof jacket to wear for longer trail runs. I loved the color, the length and the fact that it is waterproof and packable. The concept of being able to wear it OVER a pack was a great idea. Here's the but - the neck came up really high. Unlike other jackets with a center zip, even if I unzipped... Read More it, it still felt too high. I ended up returning it and purchasing the Storm10.
Nice design. Looking forward to using it this spring
I sized up so I could fit a small daypack inside/underneath. I plan to use it hiking the TMB in Aug/Sept. If it rains, I should be able to stay pretty dry in this. I would like a pocket for my phone. The jacket would be more functional for activities other than running if it had a pocket. I LOVE the bottom snap. Because Patagonia rarely puts in a 2... Read More way zipper, I find most jackets too long for me if I need to do anything that requires a higher knee lift. The snap alleviates this problem.
If you want waterproof and have a running water vest, this jacket is perfect. However, if you are ok with water-resistant, this is not the best jacket. When you wear the hood, the noise it makes is uncomfortable. You will need a noise-canceling headset. But rest sure, you will not get wet.
I still can't get used to the side zipper and no pocke... Read Morets. The breathability is not good compared to the Houdini Air. I gave it a 4 because how light it is for a waterproof running jacket.
Bought this for my daughter who's training for a half-marathon. "You are so thoughtful, Dad. This is perfect," she said. What an easy way to be considered a great dad. Thanks, Patagonia.
I am 5'4", 118 lbs., I tend to vary between XS and S depending on the item/use. I would say that I am slender, but have an athletic (albeit short) torso and shoulders, but really long arms. I wanted to make sure that I could comfortably run in this jacket without feeling constrained. It has been perfect. I self support my longer runs with... Read More a water bag (I prefer the bladder on the back as opposed to the bottles up front, and this worked out perfectly). Not constrained at all. I have only used this when running in snowy conditions so far, and stay completely dry. This doesn't add warmth per-say, but it does allow for breathability while blocking strong winds and keeping water out; I still rely on the base layers to be my warmth without locking in too much moisture/sweat. If you are between sizes, I recommend opting for the larger of the two; particularly if you intend to wear a running pack underneath.
I purchased this jacket to keep me dry while training for ultra trail runs in the rainy PNW. I have a Solomon hydration pack with two water bottles. This jacket looks designed to go over top such a hydration pack. I am 58 and 120lbs. I usually wear a small, but purchased a medium, because I have broad shoulders. This jacket was too tight to wear ov... Read Moreer the hydration pack. The sleeves are too short and the zippers are very stiff. I returned it and bought a different jacket. My husband purchased the mens version. It fits him well, keeps him dry, and he likes it.
Specifically got this jacket to wear over a running pack for long Winter runs in the Pacific Northwest. The sizing is exactly what you would expect. Love that they have such a selection for smaller people. Had to exchange in order up to fit over the pack. I'm sure it will be worth the effort!
I was hesitant about this jacket, because I will wear it for running or hiking or even just walking, and it seemed more technical than my needs dictated, I likely won't use a hydration vest under it most of the time. I live in a rainy climate so rainwear is crucial unless you want to be trapped indoors all winter. This jacket is incredibly lig... Read Morehtweight, comfortable, keeps me bone dry in a downpour, breathes well, and, dare I say it--looks nice too. The fabric is whisper quiet and not "crinkly" or stiff. Seriously brilliant. I will use this everyday for everthing. I have somewhat broad shoulders and the small fit well. Bravo on this jacket Patagonia.
