Unbelievably lightweight and comfy, windproof with longish arms. It's a great running jacket but I've been wearing it all the time - it's waterproof enough for light rain and packs so small that I just keep it in my bag all the time. Colors are great too. Super warm, true to size jacket. My only problem is that I've replaced the main zipper twice already. It inevitably gets stuck as you zip it up. Great for snow and rain, though!
Hi Eric! Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. We're really sorry to hear that you've had to replace your zipper twice now. We expect better performance out of our gear so this is disappointing. We've reached out to you directly with further assistance.
A good layer for sailing
I would definitely recommend this as a light wind layer for hiking, biking, sailing, etc... My only complaint is that it runs just a tad slim in the hips.
We appreciate your feedback Gayle! Our Torrentshell, Calcite and Granite Crest are all "regular" fit jackets that are waterproof so they may be overkill for your needs but will be less narrow in the hips compared to the "slim" fit Houdini windbreaker. The "Take Everywhere" Layer
This jacket has become indespensible. It is super light, packs up tiny, but can do it all. I keep it in my mountain biking backpack for chilly rest stops or sudden sprinkles. the indispensable layer
I take this tiny jacket everywhere. I have one that's been going strong since 2013, with no tears or excessive wear, in spite of being stuffed into a pack or jersey pocket several times a week and pulled out to be worn in every kind of condition. The fit is slim. Its meant to layer over a capilene or under another jacket. Its the best for skiing, mountain biking, hiking, and running. Its always in my bag. It offers a surprising amount of heat while still being breathable. Nothing beats it except the Houdini Air.
Extremely useful for travel and everyday
I was looking for a light-weight wind breaker for easy packing. This stuffs into its one and only pocket and looks nice when wearing. Only downside-no hand pockets-just the top one which is small. Woman's Houdini windbreaker jacket
I have never been so disappointed. The picture is very misleading, looks like a winter jacket. It is not. The windbreaker is so thin I doubt it will give any protection.
Hey Deanne, thank you for the feedback. In the future, we recommend checking out the "Specs & Features" tab on the product page to get a better idea of what the product is like, and how it was designed to be used. The Houdini is a lightweight windbreaker that can pack down into it's own pocket for easy travel. It was designed for high output activities when weather takes a turn. It will provide protection, but it is not waterproof. We're not entirely sure what it is that you were looking for so we recommend you get in touch with [customer service](https://help.patagonia.com/s/) so we could provide you with an alternate suggestion.
This jacket is as thin as tissue paper. Too light for my needs
Hey Cheri, we're sorry this didn't work out for you. The Houdini was designed to be super lightweight, and packable. It's meant to be a layer you can quickly whip out when there is unexpected winds or light rain while out in the field, though it won't provide waterproof protection. We recommend checking out the specs and features tab for any item on it's product page to give you a better idea of intended use. Does not have pockets, which is a bummer, but I was so happy to find a Patagonia raincoat that actually fit me (XXL). Ive worn it almost every day since I got it. Love it!

Great shell for PNW Coast. Sheds mist, blocks afternoon wind, layers over a long sleeve base layer if needed. Zipped up and its warm for chilly mornings. Unzipped and perfect when the sun comes out. But this would be so much more versatile with the addition of hand pockets. Hands need wind protection too! Although this jacket has a chest pocket, which it can pack into, I personally never use that pocket. I wish Patagonia would remove the chest pocket and add 2 hand pockets instead. Even if it adds another oz of weight, it would still be the lightest, or one of the lightest, weight windbreaker that I've seen on the market. Patagonia, please consider? With functional pockets, this jacket would be perfect. And it would fill a gap in the market.
