Overall, I like (but don't love) this piece. I use it for trail running or Nordic skiing when it is cold (15F to 40F) and possibly raining, misting, or sleeting. I wish the back used breathable capillene fabric like the hood and sleeves rather than the water repellent soft shell fabric that is also on the front and shoulders.

I love the hood, front, shoulders, and sleeves of this piece. I would prefer if the sleeves were slightly longer and included thumb slits to allow more "glove like" hand coverage.

Had this item before but lost it and had to replace it. It’s the ideal piece of gear for protection from the elements on face and light missions. I use it for summer mountaineering on sunny glacier hikes and uphill ski touring. Keeps the sun and wind off without being too hot. Ideal for people who run hot.

Review: I'm always glad when Patagonia offers unusual/unique pieces - they often perfectly fit what I'm looking for. This is now my go-to running layer for a wide range of temperatures. I often want something to keep my core a little warmer or cut the wind, but I overheat easily in jackets (I'm also a big fan of vests - if you aren't, this might not be the right jacket for you). The capilene forearm sleeves and double zip are great. I don't always use the hood, but it's thin enough to tuck down the back of the jacket so it isn't flapping in the wind.

I tend to run warm, so I struggle with what to wear when I run in 40-50 degree weather. This shirt is designed incredibly well to keep you warm (particularly in the wind), but cool off quickly with the sleeve design. I already bought a second one! This will be my new running staple!

The only minor change I would make is the addition of thumb holes to hold down the capilene sleeve material and keep my hands warmer on chillier days when gloves are not needed yet, but I tend to run particularly cold in my thumb joints.
Reading through the reviews here shows that a lot of people are missing the point of this anorak. It isn't a windshirt, and it's definitely not a jacket that you buy to wear around town. It's meant as your outer layer for high exertion in alpine environments. You layer it over a thin base layer and it fits very close to your body. It... The concept is that you get some wind/element protection through the core, big front vent, and then UV/wind protection on the arms and neck via the hood.
If you're moving hard and summiting 12K+ peaks, this is possibly the best layer for the uphill I've owned. I've used it for mountaineering and for ski touring uphill on volcanoes and it's the best for keeping me warm/protected from the elements without overheating, especially with a pack.
This is a very specialized piece. You probably don't need it. But if you go on frequent high-elevation adventures, it's worth its weight in gold.
Great Pullover for high exertion and high wind. Used hiking in Colorado in September and it was great adapting to high winds, light rain and full sun. The sleeves were great for temperature control. Worked very well with Capeline Air as base layer!

This is a fine jacket, but you can only wear it outdoors. It's not something you can keep on inside all day long like a wind shirt. Patagonia used to make lightweight, half-zip shirts in this material, and I would love to see those again. More shirts, fewer jackets please, Pat.
I cannot understand why Patagonia would discontinue the hoodless airshed pullover. It's perfect for technical stuff, yes, but also to wear to work. New favorite jacket
Great jacket, fast drying. Wearing it daily rain or shine
This is one of the best pieces of trail running equipment I have ever had. So diverse in its uses and seasons. Disappears to nothing when u dont need it. I find I can layer it over a long sleeve too on colder days and while the run is chilly at the beginning I dont over heat. The hood and extra long sleeves are great for adding warmth.
Absolutely love this piece!! So backstory I have had a Nine Trails jacket for years been repaired twice and still FAB!!, honestly this purchase was past due. Do not let the light weight fool ya! And it wicks great I dont feel sweat build or the jacket hold the moisture, the hood is PERFECT on a windy summit. Must have in your pack go get yours!!!
The fabric on this pullover is fantastic. Slightly stretchy but it blocks wind and snow. It hits a sweet spot in terms of warmth for me between 25 and 35 degrees F.
The main issue I have is similar to so many other similar products: I get really warm in my core when running, but my arms get really cold. So many running jackets (this one included)... Read More put breathable fabric on the forearms rather than wind blocking fabric. This leaves me with frozen forearms when I finish a wet run.
This pullover would be perfect if they extended the shell fabric over the front/top part of the forearms and added some more ventilation under the arms and back.
I will forever be confused why companies make this same mistake over and over when everyone I talk to here in Minnesota has the same complaints.

Excellent multi weather running gear
Very happy with this overall. As mentioned it runs small! I own many Patagonia items and this is my first Large. I am an athletic 6' 0" and 175 lbs. I bought both a Medium and Large. The medium fit but was too snug to allow any layering.

Lightweight shell for aerobic activity. I use it for outdoor running in northern VT with temperature range of 25 -50 degrees F. I use layers underneath when its colder. Light weight and easily packable. Fits easily into hydration pack.

I was looking for something that could bridge the gap between something like a Houdini and a Capilene and it seemed like this was the obvious choice. Order a size up!
This is a specialized piece, and I definitely wouldn't buy this except for running in like, the 40-50F range. I love it as a slim, incredibly lightweight layer for my runs that doesn't really keep me warm, it just keeps me from getting cold. That said, SIZE UP! I am someone who wears Small for everything. I'm 5'11", 150 lbs... Read More and like slimmer fits, and with a few exceptions almost always wear Smalls--95% of things I try on in Medium feel like they're hanging off my body.
This is the least-stretchy piece of clothing I have ever owned. I was technically able to put the Small on, but it felt like I was at risk of tearing the shirt and was suffocatingly tight. I nearly had to get help from a friend to take it off it was so tight and restrictive once I got it on. The Medium size is still honestly tighter and harder to get on than most of my Small shirts, but that's just because it has zero stretch to it. So if this piece interests you and there's ANY question to you about what size to get, get the bigger size. I give it 4*, just docking 1* for the sizing issue--it's pretty specialized in use but very good for those circumstances and something I love using whenever possible.

Runs a little tight
I use this for walking and running when it's breezy out on the trail or it suddenly starts to drizzle. Despite purchasing a large it is a little tight on my tummy versus other large apparel from Patagonia.
I bought this because I was struggling to find a running top for the winter. Shell jackets I tried had me sweat soaked a mile or two in. Running shirts/insulating layers became bulky and left me very chilled as the wind picked up. I had been thinking of a sun shirt to replace my long sleeve base layer. Something with a hood to protect my neck from the sun. Patagonia has one for fishing, but it was not exactly what I was looking for. Colin Haley has a blog called Skagit Alpinism, and recently he had a review of some Patagonia clothes that he digs. I really admire his writing ... Read Morehe has a piercing clarity and lack of ego. In this recent piece he talked this shirt up: It is just what I was looking for. For my action suit I wear a t-shirt base layer, this piece, an R1 hoody, then some puffer. Normally I wear a large in Patagonia clothing. I followed the fit guide and got this in an XL. The fit is almost snug; perfect. I can easily slide the sleeves over my forearms. The double zipper seemed like more than I needed, but I find it very useful. I can zip open the hood and open up the bottom without disturbing the pack sternum strap. Its a little thing, but I like it.
Now this is something extra that I don't know where to put. Somewhere Mr. Chouinard, in one of his books, has a table on the environmental cost of shipping things. All I recall is that by ship its not much. Not much by rail. More by truck, and a lot by air. I suggest that Patagonia start a by ground only shipping option. I would even pay more for it. Besides the environmental benefit I think it would be educational for people seeing the option. Just my thoughts
This is my go to wind shirt! I love the versatility of retaining body heat with the hood and long sleeves but then comfortably pushing up the sleeves, venting with the front zip, wearing a hood that breathes/move moisture. I cant believe how well it functions in a wide range of temperatures.
Specialized piece for the quiver-durability questionable
I normally wear a medium in most cap/Patagonia base layers to get the maximum benefit of next to skin moisture wicking, so I went with the medium and it fits like a glove and is just right. (6 175#) For me theres still enough room to fit a base layer under but I have also used it solo to run up to around 40F with and its great.

I absolutely love the ability to modulate heat dumping as I begin to really warm up and also on descents to zip back up to retain heat. I find that wearing this alone or with a base layer covers me in a wide range of temperature from the low teens to the 40s. (F)
The Not So Good: I wanted to warn anyone thinking about this layer that its an incredibly specialized piece to add to your quiver. Took it out with a cap base layer under it for a 12mile trail run/hike in about 20-10F weather on a local mountain with decreasing temp as I moved up in elevation. It is a superb piece, BUT my day pack I was wearing with food water and emergency supplies shredded (now bunched, piled and seams are starting to pull) the ultralight Pertex back panel of the garment and the function of it is most certainly affected there. This was after my first inaugural use.
This is marketed for running especially shoulder season as a multifunction piece, but if you plan on carrying any gear/water for medium to ultra-long endeavors in a pack you might want to steer clear of this as the ultralight Pertex paneling of the main body appears not durable enough for extended abrasion resistance.
Will test this to failure like I do with most of my gear and report back if needed.
Patagonia I know it takes up server space, which equates to carbon but please bring back the ability to post photos in reviews, so we can show expected wear patterns on clothing and limitations of gear as well as battle scars on our well-worn stuff! Well waste less carbon by not ordering a an inappropriate for use piece in the first place, and your clothing designers might get a good sample size of where gear is failing to improve upon it.

Great base layer
I know this is for running, but I got one for hiking and its great!
Helps cut the wind without sacrificing breathability for cold, windy winter runs
I wear this as an outer layer to cut the wind during cold, windy runs through the winter when it's typically 20-40 outside. This item is very thoughtfully designed. It provides a little shielding from the wind but doesn't overheat me. Traditional running 'jackets' make me WAY too hot and aren't breathable. I really like how... Read More lightweight it is, and I like how the sleeves can be pushed up the forearm. The zipper has a very deep cut which I love, and the zipper is actually 2-way so it can be opened from the bottom. When the zipper is all the way up, the neck resembles a soft buff. I don't find myself using the hood very often but it's well designed and it doesn't catch the wind or flop around when it's not in use. I usually wear a t-shirt, then a base layer, then this Airshed top. I really like how this fits me with the slim cut. I'm running around 20-35 miles per week in NYC, often at night and often in high wind situations along the Hudson.
*By most things, I mean wind, light rain, and variable temperatures anywhere between 45-65. I live in Southern California and need a layer 1 out of every 5 days between November and March. But I used to live in San Francisco, where I think this piece would really shine.
Function: It's not perfectly windproof, it's not perfectly waterpro... Read Moreof, but if you're dealing with mist, fog, or wind, or any combination of, this is a pretty unbeatable piece. It's enough to cut the chill that would otherwise come about when either stopping, or turning a corner and getting a blast of wind, but it's breathable enough that you won't overheat. My go to trail-running kit would typically be a Houdini jacket stuffed into a running vest to be put on over a short-sleeve. I think that's still a good combo, but airshed pro pullover does pretty much everything the same while remaining much more comfortable and breathable. I would say Houdini might excel if you're hiking, but this excels when running.
Fit: Verges on a little tight but made up for in stretch. I'm 5'5" and 130, and wouldn't change a thing. Appreciate the longer sleeves, especially because this piece excels in temps where I wouldn't want gloves but having extra fabric is nice to have.
Looks: Stellar.

Perfect for fall and winter in the mountains
I run in the foothills of the mountains near my house. The weather is hot in the day and cool in the morning for fall. I am wearing it without a tshirt now and plan to use it as winter sets in (usually 28-35 f) in the mornings.
Really love this hoodie. Perfect for cool/windy, cold days running trails in the mountains. Wrist to elbow and hood wicking material take away that clammy touch. Truly my husbands favorite! Perfect fit in the arms and torso, and is a great second layer for those early morning runs. He hasn't used the hood yet but tried it out and is a fan. Zipping the neck up without the hood on provides extra protection around the neck.
Like a few other folks, I wear this primarily as a baselayer, typically as a stand-alone piece. It comprises two superb fabrics and manages moisture very, very well. The deep two-way zip is excellent (very effective at boosting airflow and dumping heat) and the hood provides an almost perfect amount of coverage without impacting vision. Unlike many... Read More ultralight hooded shirts, the hood stays put, does not flop around when running or in high wind, and layers cleanly under a helmet or other layers. I find the cut/sizing to be perfect. Durability is the obvious concern, given the materials and price, but I have a very hard time complaining given the undeniable performance. The only thing I would remove is the stash pouch in the back of the hood. I think this is extraneous on a piece that is otherwise so cleanly minimalist.
This is a unique piece of gear. Leave it to Patagonia to come up with something like this. I am aware of maybe only one other halfway comparable design from any other manufacturer that approximates the materials and performance (relative to my use case). It will probably not be like anything else in your closet.
(To the design team: please put some thought into a sun protection hoody with identical fit and features but higher UPF materials. Something like that would be an excellent companion to the Airshed Pro. When it comes to sun protection, especially on rock, snow or ice, I find most sun hoodies much too boxy and baggy. I.e. not very great for dynamic, high-output movement. I would love to see a shirt that fits like the Airshed Pro, with the same design features, but incorporating more sun-protective materials for those warm/hot, long, fast, ultra-high UV exposure days.)

The RURB (Realized Ultimate Reality Baselayer)
After my experience with the Airshed windshirt I wanted a hooded windshirt version. I didn't get it in the Airshed Pro. Instead I got a fully-realized version of those baselayer tops with the wind-block front panels. How I've used the Airshed Pro so far:
1. Hiking in windy conditions in temps from 40s to 60s. Layer a light baselayer bene... Read Moreath (short sleeve or long), wear with baseball cap and maybe gloves. Pull on or remove the hood as needed. Pull on shell layer if really blustery or precip.
2. Snowshoeing. Wear w/ L/S Cap Lightweight baselayer beneath and wind shell over (an old Krushell) for comfort in gusty mid 20s (F) conditions.
3. Biking. Layer beneath a jersey for extra wind blocking. Pull on the hood beneath the helmet if it's chill. Even with a wind jacket, riding in cool conditions always means air infiltration. An inner layer helping to block that makes a surprising difference in comfort.
4. Sleeping. Worn as part of sleep clothes the Airshed Pro stops the air infiltration at the shoulders with my down quilt. And the hood is right there if I feel cold.
I've come to really like this thing. The Airshed fabric breathes well and blocks some air movement. The Capilene lower arms and hood offer a way to save heat or shed it with little wearer input or delay of game. The fabric dries quickly if it gets wet. It's bugproof. I prefer wearing a Capilene lightweight shirt beneath, but I have worn next to skin and Airshed is surprisingly comfortable. The pullover weighs basically nothing, and wads into a little ball if I'm not wearing it. It brings a lot for not much weight.
Some details. Sizing. My Airshed windshirt XL fits like a sack. I brought the Pro in L, and it's...snug. Very snug. I could not wear more than a light - maybe midweight - baselayer beneath. After using, I don't think you should try to wear with more than that. Despite the snug fit, movement is good with the Pro. I don't feel constrained while wearing, only when putting on or taking off. The hood. Like the R1 hoody, the Airshed Pro hood is like a light, perfectly fitting, balaclava sewn to the neck. Great face coverage when zipped up, easy to shed when unzipped. Sleeves. The Capilene lower sleeves feel fragile. They haven't proven so in use, but I'd push up the sleeves before crack climbing in this shirt. BTW, pushing up the sleeves helps cool down, more that I expected it would. Pocket. There isn't one, and I think it could use one. Just a chest pocket like the Airshed windshirt had...
I haven't figured out all the ways the Airshed Pro pullover fits into my existing clothing systems, but I think it has a lot of potential. I've liked it a lot for the systems I've added it to so far.
This jacket is perfect for an over layer on my race suit for skimo races. Super light but cuts just enough wind that I have piece of mind once I start going higher that Im not going to get wind burn at the summit. Honestly I forget its even on me or in my pack. It lost its pocket in the process, and the forearm material has changed. I believe I am have a slim physique, but the slim fit is a little too snug. It makes me wonder whether I will rip the pullover when I remove ... Read Moreit. The forearms are not as wind-protected as in the original. I guess that is intentional.
The hood is problematic. The zipper is in the midline, so when it closes, it is very tight over the chin. It would be better if the zipper were not midline, but followed the path of a one-armed Y, so it closed at the jaw. The cut at the chin could be more generous so it weren't so tight, or perhaps it could go higher to cover the mouth with a mesh fabric. It would be nice if the pocket were restored.
I really loved the original non-hooded Airshed pullover and would love to buy another. I used to wear it throughout winter in the Northeast with a balaclava on sub-zero (Fahrenheit) days, and it was perfect. This could better in the ways described above.

Ski touring
One of the best layers for ski touring that I have used. I wear it as base layer. Very breathable and blocks the wind.
First, let me say that when I run, I run hot. Ive been trying for a while to figure out what to wear on 40-50 degree days. I would do a regular ultra light cap long sleeve shirt and run cold because of sweat evaporating and getting me cold in the wind. This jacket covers the temp range I needed and more. Perfect for time when temperatures cool down. It is extremely light weight but also extremely effective against cool temperatures and wind. I like the long sleeves that I can pull down over my hands to keep them warm.

The back panel is the same fabric as the front panel, which is the last place where I want wind protection.
Is it a good-looking, fun layer? Yeah, very much so. But I haven't figured out what it's good for. Did they test this thing at all in the field? Maybe it's good for golfing in 55 degrees.
Thank you for your feedback on the Mens's Airshed Pro Pull Over. We are sorry to hear that it is not what you expected. Layering wise it is really a multi faceted piece. You can add a base layer under it, and wear either a Houdini or Nano on top for colder and gusty days, or you can just use the Airshed it's self for more mild ones. Then always of course if does not work out you are always welcomed to return it.

Great piece of trail kit
It was much lighter out of the box than I expected but the warmth from it was fantastic. I have been using it during hikes and runs as a lightweight shell to deflect the wind. The integrated sleeves are phenomenal for heat control too. Great piece of trail kit for sure. Every runner needs one just like the Houdini :)
Incredibly versatile. Expensive, but if I was to have only one technical shirt in my closet I would probably choose this.
For me it functions as a perfect 3.5 season mountain baselayer. Combines two excellent fabrics. Exceptional moisture management - absorbs very little water, dries very fast. The pullover feels warm on a spring morning, and although I wish I could feel more wind protection, I dont think I would sacrifice the breathability and pliability for a more windproof fabric. I believe in the power of layering, this garment is quick to stow and deploy, and for 3 seasons at least, it will provide ample flexibility to layer for running and riding.

Little tight
On the description it said the model was 61 and wearing a medium. Well he must have been 170lbs soaking wet because Im 6 and 190 and its pretty tight. Not really an everyday item either, specialized for mountain running or very active hiking.

Perfect for spring running in Northern New England
A late winter afternoon trail run here in Maine can involve a significant temperature drop from start to finish. Paired with a layer of two of light weight Capilene this jacket keeps me warm enough with no unnecessary frills.
Ive been looking at the Airshed Pro Pullover since the High Endurance Kit was introduced last year, but decided to wait and see what some of the reviews were before purchasing. Now that my ultramarathon training is starting up for the year, I decided to wait no longer, and Im sure glad I bought it. Im 57, 140 pounds and with the slim fit of this pu... Read Morellover, I purchased a size medium and it fits me perfectly. For reference I wear a size small in the Crosstrek 1/4 zip, better sweater, capilene trail tees, and Snap-T. I also purchased the Storm Racer jacket to wear over my running vest, and for that the size small fit me perfectly.
This item is perfect for trail running, when youre moving quickly and the heart is pumping. It blocks a bit of wind and the two zippers allow you to vent easily. I also love the hood, Ive been able to go without a beanie on colder days. When it gets hotter, the sleeves are easy to pull up your arms, effectively turning this into a short sleeve top.
The one thing I will say is that I think the Airshed Pro Pullover is perfect for what it is advertised as, a running top. If youre looking for a bit more warmth while hiking, this isnt it. But I think it could be used as good sun protection for hiking in the summer months, though I havent had it long enough to try.

Love the fact how this shirt is slim and fits over 1 (or 2) thin layers. I wear it running and usually wear a long sleeve shirt underneath. The built in hood is snug and keeps you warm. Being able to keep the hood on and then using the lower zipper to dump heat is a great feature. Glad I got a L. Medium would have been a bit snug I guess.
First things first: this piece runs VERY small, even compared to other "Slim Fit" Patagonia tops. Seriously, I would advise going up one size from your normal size unless you want it to be nearly compression-fit tight. With that out the way, I was surprised at how substantial this piece feels even while being very thin and low weight. It's super comfortable and kept the wind off and warm while running at 0ºC/32ºF, with a Merino wool base layer top underneath. I can easily see this being adaptable for use anywhere below freezing (with appropriate layering) to cooler springtime temperatures, especially in the shade.
This is the best running mid-layer ever. It fills that gap in the running wardrobe between going out on a cold uncomfortable run in your fall clothes, and soaking 3 separate layers from the inside out because you are wrapped like a mummy. It is so good.

The hybrid construction, which I initially was slightly sceptical about, worked really well. Helps with wind where needed, but has super comfortable and breathable hood and sleeves.
You'll even manage if you get caught in a short shower, where the DWR of the torso wicks well for a while. If it starts raining properly however, you want to pull out your shell.
This is the most comfortable shirt and it will easily be the star of your closet. I ordered an XL but have a barrel chest and belly fat so it did not work for me. If you are tall and slim this is for you

While it's true the color on the sleeves/hood is not accurate to the photo (there's some grey in the capilene material, and not clean stripes like shown) it doesn't matter one bit, this is an amazing piece. It's the best fitting piece I've purchased from Patagonia. Way more slim and long than the Houdini that this replaced. Combine that all with light breathable fabric, and it is truly a gem. The only downside I could see is it being harder to layer underneath than a baggier jacket like the Houdini, but this piece is still more versatile.

Read Moreo keep the hood in place around your head, but still allows you to ventilate your chest. On my piece, the Capilene Cool fabric in the hood & lower sleeves has grey striping intermixed with the base color, so it doesn't look the same as the pictures on the website (where it the piece is mono-colored). The contrast makes for kind of a weird aesthetic, but given the overall performance - easy to forgive. The only suggested improvement to be perfect would be to add a chest pocket, but I'm still giving it the top rating because of it's versatility.
This is an awesome running layer. Really diverse, keeps you cool by dumping heat but blocks out a decent wind gust. The sleeves push up on the forearms and stay in place. I've keep them up for an hour run without them showing any signs of stretching or falling back down.
I'd call this perfection if they'd put the pocket back. I kno... Read Morew this is more of a base layer than anything but I don't think anyone will be sad to have that spare pocket.
I don't tend to write reviews all that much, but this is one exception. This item is one of the best made pieces of running gear Patagonia has made! Very comfortable and lightweight. Living in the PNW this is a must for the cooler days and also potentially getting caught in some light rain along the way.
next to houdini, i would say this is the best running gear patagonia has produced. with a capilene light T shirt and the airshed pro, i was able to regulate heat on local trail run that ranged in elev from 1500ft to 7000ft on a semi rainy day in Feb with wind (Los Angeles, Mt Wilson). I think it would be even better if the sleeves were even bit longer with thumb holes. the double zipper is a game changer for allowing for more versatility.. why not do this on other items like houdini jacket patagonia! i would love to be able to wear houdini like a cape so i can access my running pack while having the hood on.
For something so lightweight, it works remarkably well. I had been waiting for months for the HEK to be released, so I bought this immediately without seeing it in person. My first impression was how light it is. So light, I didnt expect it to work. Ive used this on 3 long weekend trail outings so far, in temps ranging from 30F and windy to around ... Read More45F and sunny. Each time Ive been wearing a thin capilene style long sleeve layer below the pullover and the two layers have been just about perfect. I dont want to mislead anyone about warmth though - this is not insulated in any way, but it effectively shields the wind and helps retain a little heat if youre moving. I really like the cut. Feels like its not even there. Time will tell how well it holds up to extended use. After about 10 hours of wearing this with the new hydration pack (which is also great) there are no visible signs of wear.
So in the end, its pretty great for its intended use.

The forearms and hood are stretchy and very breathable. I particularly love the long, athletic/slim-fit cut. I am 6'4" and the size L fits me great. Highly recommended for trail running and cross-country skiing. Would also be great for hiking or climbing.
