I own three pairs and wear them all the time. I bought a larger size (L vs. M) because I also use them to wear around town. They are the best! Just did my first 100K in them - so comfy!
This is the newest version of the short. I've purchased this short for probs the past 10 years. The fit seems looser and the material had def. changed. It's stretchier now and seems less substantial. I was a big fan of the previous versions. Not a big fan of this one.
Thanks for your feedback, Guillermo. We have made some design changes to these shorts for Spring '23. Here is a list of all the changes:
- The main fabric was a 1.9-oz 100% recycled polyester stretch ripstop with a DWR finish, and is now 2.5-oz 90% Prevented Ocean Plastic recycled polyester /10% spandex plain weave with four-way stretch and a PFC-free DWR finish.
- The liner fabric was a 2.7-oz 100% polyester (42% recycled) crepe with HeiQ and is now 2.3-oz 100% recycled polyester double knit with miDori bioSoft and HeiQ.
- The fabric now has more stretch.
We're sorry to hear you're not a fan of these changes and prefer the older style. We'll share your thoughts with our product team for future consideration. In the meantime, we recommend browsing our [Worn Wear website](https://wornwear.patagonia.com/shop/search?q=strider%20pro) for a past season version of these shorts.

Wish I liked them better
I got these on sale and thought I was getting a steal. My other favorite shorts are Tracksmith, which are great but don't have enough pockets. I run in the desert between 6-15 milers. I got these hoping that I could run with my iPhone 12 Pro Max. It holds the phone but theres quite a bit of jiggle on a run. Gels and other things are great. The... Read More outer material is more harsh than I expected. The cut is great but liner is on the small side. Theyre sharp for regular wear and decent for runs but not my favorite. I would be more upset if I paid full price for them. I think these are better than a Nike or UA but just not worth the price tag for me when the shorts are competing with other running specialty brands at this price range.
Hi Evan, we're very sorry to hear that the Strider Pro Running Shorts aren't meeting your expectations. We want you to be happy with your gear, so please feel free to begin a [return](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html) at your earliest convenience.

Perfect in every way except the sizing!!
I've been wearing Strider Pro for trail running since it first came out 5 or 6 years ago. Love the pockets, the breathable fabric, lightweight! One downside that really bothers me is the built-in liner is too tight!! I have to go one size bigger (i.e. M instead of S) just to make sure my thighs won't chafe during running. That would be gr... Read Moreeat if you can improve or rework the built-in liner. The Strider Pro is perfect otherwise!
Excellent update to the product. As other reviewers have stated, the previous iteration of the product had issues with liner, & overall fit. Outer shell is now lighter, airier, & more comfortable. Liner has been re-engineered to fit better, is more comfortable & does not cause chafing issues. Huge improvement, hope more colors are comin... Read Moreg, specifically navy blue, and a light gray please.
The Strider Pro's are the best running shorts out there. The new updated fabric is stretchy and buttery soft. I was concerned that the new fabric would retain more water/sweat as it appears to be more absorbent, but so far this hasn't been a problem at all. The fit is ever so slightly larger in the waist and liner than the previous iterat... Read Moreion, but this is actually a good thing in my opinion (and the draw cord does the trick to adjust for the *slight* difference). If you loved the previous version you'll love these too, if not more.
I owned three pairs of the older model of these shorts (purchased sometime in early 2022). They are by far the best running short I have ever worn. Unfortunately, the zipper on one of them broke and I took it in to the store and I was given a pair of the new version in exchange. They ruined this short. The liner is way too baggy and no longer offer... Read Mores support, and the waste is a big longer, which makes the fit looser, leading to chafing, especially when I have my phone in the back pocket. The old model did not have these problems. If they could revert these changes, I would give this product five stars.
Thanks for your feedback, Andrew. We're sorry to hear that the design changes made to these shorts have been less than favorable to you. We'll share your thoughts with our product team for future consideration. In the meantime, we recommend keeping an eye on what we have available on our [Worn Wear website](https://wornwear.patagonia.com/shop/search?q=strider%20pro). This is where we sell lightly used gear from past seasons, you might have some luck and find a pair of the 2022 version of these shorts that you prefer. If you don't have any luck, check back because we add to inventory everyday.

Updated for 2023
Overall, I still think these are the best shorts out there. The pockets securely hold all the gels and small items you could want.
Comparing the 2023 to 2022 models, the updated fabric has much more stretch to it. It feels lighter, but I'm curious to see how it holds up to abrasions. The brief is also larger, which many people complained abou... Read Moret last year. That being said, the waistband is wider for the sale L size. I'm now a kind of in-between L and M, with the M waistband being better but the volume of the L short being better.
Years ago I bought 2 pairs of these shorts when they had the trunk liner. They were absolutely amazing. Unfortunately they have long outlived their useful life and have been looking to replace them only to find that they are no longer offered in the trunk liner. Boo. I'm really hesitant to spend money for the brief liner - I have yet to find a... Read More pair to running shorts with a brief liner that wasn't total garbage. Also - I just really prefer not having the seam of a brief run between my legs in prime chafe zone. Patagonia - please bring back the trunk!
