I purchased a small, and the fit is excellent. I appreciate the slim fit of the short, and the 7-in length is great for the gym. Recently, these are the only shorts I wear when I'm working out and I highly recommend.
These shorts run a little small. Also the Patagonia decal on the front thigh started peeling off after the first wash. This was a gift and for the price of these shorts, the Patagonia Logo should not peel after the first wash.

Expensive mall shorts
The fabric is light and isn't uncomfortable when you have sweat streaming down your waist in record heat. I ran a marathon in these yesterday, and that was the high point. I find the sizing on
I find the sizing on Patagonia products completely unpredictable and I have a lot of things over many years. Please make a shorter version of these.
I got these shorts as finisher award for Promise Land 50K. I generally do not wear shorts longer than a 5" inseam, so, naturally I cut about 3" off of these. They're now my favorite running shorts. Please consider this as a new product! A 3-4" inseam short with built in compression liner would be amazing!
As others have mentioned, these run very small. I am 5'7, 155 lbs, and small in all of the regular fit Patagonia pants and shorts fit me perfectly. These are laughably tight in a small. 100% Favorite Running Short
These are for sure my go-to running shorts for long runs when I have my vest. The pocket is perfect for my phone. 7" is the perfect length as well. Suuuper psyched on these!

Disappointing performance, no zipper back pocket!
I was a huge fan of the previous version of these shorts, that had a brief liner and the zipper back pocket. Regardless I gave them a go, and I ended up returning them.
I found that they kept sliding down my rear, due to lack of stretch with the boxer brief liner. I also lost my keys at one point, due to the back pocket not having a liner.

Little small
The shorts are super comfortable and feel great except in the crotch area. They fit a little tight in that certain area. I would recommend getting a size bigger than you normally wear for them to be a perfect fit.
Light weight, quick drying, good fit, high quality. Basically, everything you would expect from Patagonia. These are my go-to running shorts for their feather weight yet comfy, supportive fit. The liner stays in place as do the shorts without needing to be cinched to the hips with the drawstrings. I love the clever pocket in back for a phone or some cash. Im a 36 waist and might try the XL next time.
Nothing fancy about these shorts - which I like. This short has a boxer brief liner. I was worried about this, but I find it comfortable. I actually prefer this model to the pro because of the boxer brief liner. Very comfortable and lightweight. The waistband, which is pretty much identical across all Patagonia running shorts could be enhanced with a wider, softer approach. But its hard to improve this great short!
My favorite running shorts by far. I also own the pro version. I'd like to recommend you add the envelope pockets into the non pro Strider shorts. I prefer the boxer liner for the very long runs. I always grab these shorts for my long runs but would really love to have the same pockets that are sewn into the pro version.
These are my go to shorts. I've ordered 2 so far, and will probably try the Pro variant next. I ordered the gray shorts and I love them. The fit was kinda snug but needed for active wear. The inner liner works as designed helping to keep everything in one place. I really like these shorts and strongly recommend them for casual, hiking and running wear.
This is the 4th generation of Strider shorts I've run in and I continue to be pleased with th efit and feel of these shorts. The material is a bit lighter (and cooler) than ... Read Morethe fabric in my previous Striders, and the amount of stretch is good. The fit seems to run just a bit small (I'm 6'5", 195lb, w/ 35" waist) but well proportioned. Although these shorts perform well for running, I find the rear pocket lacking in its design. The product description mentions the pocket accepting a phone, my iPhone 6s won't fit unless I take it out of its case. The biggest problem I have with the pocket is the pocket openining is placed so close to the top of the short's waistband that it is diffucult to intuitively reach into the pocket while running (e.g., to get a bar or other food), instead it is too easy to accidentally reach into the back of the shorts or have your hand slide past the openning. The pocket entrance needs to be lower so that your hand can more easily find the pocket entrance (and retrieve and replace contents) while running. Having a key loop in the pocket is nice, but it is a bit awkward to have the loop behind you and to loop and unloop the key while it isn't easily seen (if you lack flexbility the rear key loop may be difficult to access). The flat fabric used for the loop is difficult to handle and undo by feel, if the key loop was make of round cordage, there would be more tactile feedback about the loop is hitched around the key making it much easier to undo the key by feel. The fit and comfort are great, I wish the pocket design was better and allowed me to more easily get into and out of the pocket while running.
The Mens Strider Running Shorts, 7 length are truly outstanding. The fabric is so durable and the liner comes with odor control technology. I love these running shorts and will buy two more pair. I dont mind paying for the superior product but playing the medium/large game gets aggravating at times. I have mediums that are too small and larges that are way too big. More to the point, these are good shorts. They are slightly roomier than the 7 shorts I bought several years ago, which I prefer. The boxer brief lining is no big deal. Ill wear them when my older ones are dirty, but perhaps someone will but these shorts for the first time and prefer them, I dont know. No huge complaints, because the products that Ive bought in the pasta quality far outweigh any discrepancies I have. I am 511 -60 with a fit build and a large upper body. Perhaps its a me issue. I dont know. I hate for this to be a catch all for all their products but the shorts are a little roomy, I would have bought the 5 looking back. But I will wear them in the future and will continue to purchase Patagonia products, because of the high quality. I just wish their sizing was more standardized for normal fit across the board.
Great product! The fit is true to what I purchased and the long inner brief helps prevent chaffing on my thighs, which was an issue when using some shorts with a shorter inner brief.
My favorite running shorts. Inner liner is comfortable and prevents chafing. Back pocket just barely fits a phone. No extra anything. Have 2 pairs and bought my brother one as a gift.
I love this short. This is the one with boxer brief style liner. I prefer that over the brief. Incredibly lightweight with 1 pocket in the back for gels.

I am a big fan of the 9 trails short, but wanted something a little lighter for speed work. Love the striders. Similar fit and feel of the 9 trails but a little slimmer. Liner stays in place and overall weight is perfect for heat and humidity.
I have a pair of the older generation Strider running shorts with a brief liner and they are my all-time favorite running shorts. Boxer liner chafes legs
Sad to say all Patagonia men's running shorts now have a boxer shaped liner that is harrow for a boxer around the legs. Prior short design has a "speedo swimsuit" shaped liner which keeps you cooler, and does not chafe the legs. Returned this item.
These shorts are a big step above anything I've run in before. I'd been running in shorts from a different brand for the past 4 years and never considered that they may be heavy or restrictive. They were just running shorts and I didn't feel it mattered too much between manufacturers.
I decided to try the Striders to see how it went... Read More and the light weight, freedom of movement, and comfort from the liner are far better than other shorts I've run in. Most noticeable is how they allow you to run less inhibited by the material which is very lightweight and feels great against your skin. The cut is just right, sitting above .the knees but not overly short.
Then the liner is more comfortable than the usual brief liner in other shorts, almost like a spandex feel but not too tight, making them really enjoyable to wear around.
The only thing I'd like different on these is some sort of elastic cinch rather than the shoe lace style adjustment which is difficult to get right.
I like having shorts with a liner when I go to the gym. It's one less thing to worry about. The 7" cut is ideal; good for running but not too short to wear in the gym.

Good quality running shorts. Liner is a little loose fitting but very functional. I’ve beat them up a bit so far and everything seems to be holding up.
I’m 5’9”, 147 lbs and I bought a medium M’s Strider for running. The fit was disappointingly uncomfortable. Too small and tight, also liner seemed to be small as well.
