I am so attached to these comfy light shorts that I wear them far away from my bike, like rafting the Grand Canyon and swimming through waterfalls. Great length, accessible pockets and fast drying.
The redesigned Women's Dirt Roamer Mountain Bike Shorts are FABULOUS!!! I'd been wearing, and wearing through, all my 1st generation Dirt Roamer MTB Shorts - dreading the day that my last pair would give up the ghost. Fortunately, Patagonia still makes the Dirt Roamer MTB Shorts and has improved them with an easy access zipper pocket on B... Read MoreOTH sides [each leg gets a pocket]. THANK YOU Patagonia - just LOVE these shorts!!!

I've been looking for a longer short with pockets and these worked. I don't love the pockets but they are exactly as described. The shorts are light weight and easy to move in. I'm wearing them for pickleball rather than biking. Only 4 stars because I got two different colors they don't fit the same.
Sadly, these shorts are getting smaller. This version is 1 inch narrower in waist than my last pair and probably 1.25-1.5 inches smaller than my first pair which lasted years and are sadly beyond repair (per Patagonia). Great shorts but size up accordingly. Unfortunately, the larger sizes are sold out.
I am 5'9" and 121 lbs (tall and very thin) but I do have longer legs with a shorter torso and neither the 4 nor 6 fit me so if you have a similar body type just skip these shorts all together as you will be disappointed with the fit (read on). With that said, I typically wear a small or a 2 in Patagonia across the board (running shorts, t... Read Moreights, liner shorts, pants, etc.).
I purchased these in a 4 and they were so tight (and I like a tight form fit) I couldn't button the waist. It was disappointing as I already sized up based on reviews and what the fit options told me so I ordered a 6 as the material felt nice.
I was extremely disappointed when the 6 arrived as it was still too tight and gives me muffin top, it rides up the groin and gives you camel toe. Further, the shorts were soo loose every where else it looked like diaper butt that flares out from the waist down as you would see in an A-line dress.
I should not be a size 8 or larger and given how the 6 felt, I wouldn't be surprised if I had to go with a 10 but I can only imagine how big and loose everything else on the shorts would be.
Thank you for sharing this detailed feedback, Bianca; we're passing it on to our design team so they can look into it. We're sorry this pair fit to snug! Please feel free to [return](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html) this pair if you wish, and our Customer Service Team will be happy to provide specific measurements for any garment so you can feel more confident about getting the right fit.

Great shorts; sizing difficult to determine
To start, the shorts are great: beautifully made, fit fabulously, and attractive (I purchased the "hands" pattern). But getting the right fit was an arduous process. I started out buying the blue patterned shorts in sizes 2 and 4. Either size will normally fi me. Both were huge. When I tried to order size 0, the blue pattern was out of st... Read Moreock. So I ordered the hands pattern in 0. It was way too small. Lastly, I attempted to get size 2 and it fits perfectly. I'm very pleased with the shorts, not the process. I would have given the shorts 5 stars if it were not for inconsistent sizing.
I normally wear a 2 or 4, so I bought both. Both were really large. So instead, I purchased the other pattern in size 0 and it was really tight. I finally bought the same (2nd) pattern in size 2 and it was a perfect fit. Apparently, the cut is not the same from solid colors to patterns. Very frustrating and has left me totally confused what size to... Read More purchase next time around. Aside from the sizing issue, the shorts are beautiful and I'm glad it finally worked out. For that reason, I'm still giving it 5 stars. (If I were to rate these shorts strictly based on sizing, I'd give it 1 star.) But still ...
These mountain biking shorts are cute and comfortable, and the long length makes sense for this sport. I just wish someone would invent liner shorts that don't feel like a diaper! The liners come off the minute the ride ends!
I really like the shorts but have to return them because they're too small. I bought the size I usually get in Patagonia shorts, but these are too tight. There are none left in the larger size so I'm out of luck in getting another pair.
I wear a 6 in most things across the board, occasionally an 8. I'm about 135-140 lbs. I ordered these in a 6, 8, and 10 knowing that Patagonia tends to run small and I'll be adding chamois underneath. But good grief. I returned all three and just ordered a 12 and a 14. For anyone who is actually a size 12 or 14, you're out of luck my... Read More friend. It would be nice if Patagonia sizing could be consistent and could be anywhere near other common brands because this is sort of a waste of time and shipping to try to find any size that fits. Other than that the shorts seem nice and I hope I can find a size that works for me.

Great shorts
Love the longer length of these shorts. Comfortable and lightweight. Great pockets. Online reviews said they ran small so I originally ordered one size up. But that was a mistake. I work outside doing horticulture in summer heat and humidity, 100 degree plus. I sweat a lot. They wick moisture, keep me sweating right and do not get saggy. They wash well as I get earth on me along with other debris.
Why not 5 stars? The little tabs on the waistband are hard for me to adjust.
I have been trying to replace my 17 year old Water Girl board shorts for a long time. There haven't been any Patagonia shorts until now that fit me. Usually they are too big in the waist and too tight in the thigh and leg opening. Finally, while a bit baggier and longer than my old Water Girls, these shorts actually fit. I agree that these run... Read More crazy small - I held up my old shorts with the new ones, and they are exactly the same in the waist. The old shorts are size 2, and the new ones are size 8!!! These are my go-to shorts for mountain biking. They fit a touch small and therefore tend to ride up a little bit above my knee pads. Nevertheless, I wear these almost every ride because they're light, stretchy, fast drying, and the lack of sewn seems or front pockets makes for an extremely comfortable low profile fit. I wear a size 16 in just about everything, for many Patagonia items I size up to an 18. Patagonia XL fits perfectly. I first purchased these in a 16 - NOPE, not even close. Thank you for the feedback on the fit of these shorts, Stacey. We're sorry to hear of the frustration with sizing! These have a regular fit, so we're not sure why they're sitting so tightly but we'll share this feedback with the team. These shorts do go up to a size 22; if you'd like to exchange, you can begin that process [here](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html). If you'd like garment measurements to help you decide on which size to go with, feel free to reach out to our customer service team.

The fit makes no sense
I wanted to love these, because the material is so stretchy and lightweight. But the sizing is ridiculous. These are mountain biking shorts, and even after sizing up from a 12 to a 14, they were restrictive and wayyyy to tight, especially in the crotch and thighs! I wear L - XL in leggings and tights, 12 in all other pants, and Patagonia is the onl... Read Morey brand where a 14 is too small for me. I have a narrow waist and a big booty. I wish Patagonia would use proportionate cuts that didnt feel like they were just expanding the smaller sizes, and instead would use the actual proportions of larger-bodied athletic people. Definitely returned these and kept the Dirt Craft shorts instead.
Thank you for this feedback, Marisa. We've been working on not only expanding our size offerings but also patterning to fit a wider array of bodies. We're sorry to hear that this was a big miss for you, we'll pass your feedback along to the product team. We're glad to hear you were able to find a good alternative in the Dirt Craft. Super comfortable, size up 2x
I normally wear a size 2, 26-27, occasionally a 4 depending on the brand, but had to reorder these in a 6 as the 4 gave a major wedgie (they were too short in the pelvis). The 6 fits like a glove and they are so lightweight they feel like they're not even there!
I was so excited for these shorts! The fabric, color, and look are all 10/10. As a tall woman, the length is perfect! My disappointment is how these shorts fit. The waist band of the short rides across my hips, which isn't super flattering (hello love handles) and not conducive to staying up during activity. When I pull them up to my natural w... Read Moreaist line, where I would typically wear technical shorts/pants, the crotch rides up. It is quite painful, and again, not super flattering. Love These Go to Shorts
I love these go to shorts for hiking, mountain biking and casual wear. I have received so many complements on the fit and they are perfectly light weight for summer endeavors, love the extra length for sun protection and they move well with your body and don't catch on the saddle.
Thank you so much for leaving this review Linda! We are very sorry to hear that these were a bit baggy for you. Please know you are more than welcome to start a [return or exchange](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html) for refund or a different size if needed.

Comfy and well fitting
The perfect mountain bike shorts! The lack of front pockets means no bunching or folding where the thighs meet the waist, and the side pockets are slim and fit a phone, keys, or gel. The material feels durable and quick drying, and the flat welded seams give them a smooth fit.
I have wider hips, and the is pretty slim fitting across the hips/upper... Read More thighs, but fits perfectly around the waist. The tight thighs do not feel like they inhibit my pedaling at all, as the shorts are very stretchy.
Nice fabric, but poor fit. I love the lightweight fabric, but cannot fit kneepad with these shorts, they are long but the knee opening is super small. Wish they would make the knee a tad wider or make the short about 1" shorter to accommodate any leg armor.
Hi Jessica, we're sorry to hear that you're having trouble with fitting knee pads under the Dirt Roamer Mountain Bike Shorts. If you find that the fit is too bothersome, please feel free to begin a [return or exchange](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html) at any time.

Favorite shorts, but stretch a little
I'm normally a size 8, but due to the fact that these stretch a little size 6 works best for me. At first they are snug, but they stretched at the waist over time. I have them in the grey and pink. My favorite shorts. Love the large leg pocket.
Perfect fit except the legs are too snug above the knee
I love everything about these shorts except the fit is too snug above the knee. I dont like to feel tension with every pedal strokeI want a bike short with a looser fit above the knees for freedom while pedaling. I have narrow thighs, so its not just my body type!
We are sorry to hear of this fit issue with our Women's Dirt Roamer Bike Shorts. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review about this. We have passed this information over to our design crew. Please know that we have reached out to you privately in regards to returning this product if you are unsatisfied.

Love these.
The extra length and extreme lightness of the fabric is great for bouldering and hiking.
This is my third pair of these shorts. I love them because they are very comfortable and lightweight and a good to the knee shortsbut I have had two butt seams fail. Significant improvement over the earlier version
I had three pairs of the original Dirt Roamers. I loved the light fabric, unbeatable on hot days. But the taped seams were prone to splitting open and difficult to fix. Read Moreght, the seams look sturdier, and the two zipped larger pockets are great ! I am 5ft 4 inches 115 lb. Size 4 fits perfectly with a little adjustment on the waist. I used to prefer shorter length but these are much better sun protection and I have gotten used to the look of the longer length. They are a close fit, but stretch without being tight, and they don't get hung up on the seat. Perfect for summer riding. I am very particular about my liner shorts so did not purchase the Dirt Roamer ones.
I rode these shorts on the southern tier route across America last spring. The outer shorts were great-comfortable, washed well, dried out quickly. What I had a problem with was the inner short. Mainly, the elastic around the bottom of the legs was ineffective. Did not stay put while I was walking or riding but rode up on my thighs and chaffed. I ended up just using these for casual wear, without the chamois, and used a pair of capris I had for riding. Made for frequent washing by hand.
