great design
I love the style, fit, and the POCKETS; I might have gone for "blue" had it been available but black goes with everything. Its too warm to wear it at this point -- I didn't realize that it was lined-- and it is surprisingly weighty. Looking forward to fall.
Fits like a glove (nice length) and with hemp construction, its made to last. Great for spring and fall; makes for a rugged addition without weighing you down.
Very strong and durable vest! I got a large and find it does run true to size it is a bit large for me being 5'6 but fits great with a sweater underneath
Spring and Fall in the vegetable garden is a messy time. This vest keeps me comfortable and keeps the compost, seed starting mix, most of the water off. The ample pockets allows me to keep the tools I need handy. When this is clean I've often thrown it on when headed out the door to my favorite pub.

The soft fit of hemp, warmth and comfort are great. Two improvements would be a selection of colors and making the back zipper pocket easier to use when wearing (I am 74 and have to take it off to use the back pocket).

Great fit and useful pockets
Useful and warm when my activity keeps me warmer than a more substantial layer is required. This vest has become a welcome, pull off the hook , and get after the day staple.
All of the Patagonia hemp workwear is amazing and I can't recommend it enough! This item is no different! I found the size Large to be roomier than I needed at 6'1/180lbs. I loved the color. Im just now getting into workwear. I dont know how well it will age, but the hemp fabric is very soft compared to other workwear fabric. Bought this on the advice of 2 colleagues.
Couldn't be happier, the thing is bulletproof, comfortable, and looks good.
First of all, these run large to provide room for movement and extra layering. I am 5'10 190 with an athletic build and a medium fits perfectly with room to layer a sweatshirt. Used for work and casual wear -- adds warmth over a hoody when necessary, the fleece-lined pockets are especially nice. Tough material takes abuse and still looks good enough to wear around town. Plenty of useful pockets!
Great to have on the days I am working in the studio....sparks fly and I cant have bulky sleeves get in the way. Added some custom patches for flare. Stiching tough and I know it will hold up and protect me while providing warmth.
Decided to buy this and so far I have no complaints. Wore this vest on a hunting trip and it did not disappoint. Looks like its made well and should withstand daily wear.

Makes any outfit work ready
Simply zip it up over whatever you are wearing and you are work-ready. Excellent piece for extra warmth and protection. An internal chest pocket would really tie the whole thing together. May just sew one in myself.
Wanted something else rather than Carhartt and other brands. Love Patagonia products and definitely lived up to my expectations. Did run large but most work wear like this does.
I live in the Seattle area and since getting this vest several years ago it's become my everyday insulation piece. The Salish Sea climate delivers cool, wet and windy conditions most of the year and this vest has just the right amount of insulation to keep me comfortable working on projects in the garage (canoe, kayak, ski and bike maintenance... I ordered this same vest for my son last year and was misplaced. I ordered this again in September of 2022, and he noticed it had an additional breast pocket. He loves it and loved the extra pocket. These vests and coats are the best for farm work, they barely looked worn when you have worn them daily for all kinds of jobs.
The vest itself is great. I wear it all the time for work. However, after 4 months the main zipper started falling apart ( this is the second one of these vests that I've bought, and I had the same issue with both).

Not your average canvas vest
Bought this vest for yard work, wood splitting, etc. Out of the box the first thing you notice is how soft it is, and already broken in. Not the typical stiff canvas. That's the hemp at work. Great fabric, hemp - tough, warm, soft. The fit for me is good - I'm 5'7, 160, older dude, so not that bulky. I got the medium size and it work... Read Mores well. The synthetic lining is nice and makes it easy to get on and off. An inner pocket would have been nice, but not a big deal. One small drawback is that the arm holes are small and bit tight. Works for a shirt, but would likely be too tight to wear the vest over a sweater. Note to Patagonia - make the armholes / pit area a bit bigger and it's a 5 start vest.

Read the reviews and ordered a small instead of my normal medium and glad I did! Fits perfect! It is so soft and comfortable. Within 5 minutes of wearing it became my favorite piece of clothing! I have several other vest but this one blows them all away in comfort and looks.

This vest is a contemporary take on a classic agrarian style work vest. Patagonias version is sleek enough for every day city wear and tough enough for wearing in a more rugged environments.

Comfortable and functional
I wear this vest while working as a barista and appreciate the quick access to pockets. It's much warmer than expected in a good way, and looks good as a layer on top of a hoodie (or just a tshirt). My only complaint is the collar has started to pill a bit after only a few weeks of wear, but other than that I love it.

To do the most to prevent pilling, we recommend washing it either by hand in cool to cold water, or separately in your washing machine on the gentle cycle. It's best to lay it flat to dry rather than place it in the dryer. To remove pilling that has already occurred we recommend using a product like a fabric shaver, which is gentler on fabric than a sweater stone.

6' 3'' 200lbs 33 waist. I normally wear a large tall but this still hangs 4" below the belt line so no problems there. Large fits snug and if you had anything bulky in the back pouch it would be too tight. Have been wearing for 4 weeks with snow, sleet and rain. Deep pockets are well made and chest pocket holds an I phone with an otter box easily. If you have a CC any sub-compact will fit in the front pockets as the pockets are deep enough. The collar does not go above the collar on your shirt which is a main reason for buying this vest. Anything I have spilled on it does not stain as long as you immediately wipe it off. It's not out of place in the public as it looks pretty good and it is built to last. Can't think of one thing i would change. I write a review maybe once a year so I must be impressed.

I love the fit, its roomy in shoulders and chest but fitted . Perfect and Im glad I came across it, you need to do a bigger marketing push to the trades
Patagonia needs to change their fit for a more muscular athletic build. I have a 48 chest and 35 waist. L was too small in chest but fit waist OK. XL fit chest absolutely swimming around waist. The vest could use side-tabs/snaps to fit snugger in waist if they dont change the drop. Ive noticed this with Patagonias other gear over the last 3-5 years... Read More. Some of my older stuff fits great, but the newer stuff seems to be cut for people with a skinny upper build.

Tough and practical
Second one of these I purchased...love the fit and durability, wear it everyday working in tough conditions; pockets are perfect place and size.
This is a great looking and comfortable work vest. Not dressy, but thats not the intention for this piece. Good pockets. Could even see it being a good hunting vest due to large back pocket that could function like a game pouch. Im 60 - 160lbs and wear size small in everything Patagonia tops. Just how most things run.
This is my second hemp vest. I wear it nearly everyday. It faded nicely and held up to yard work, commuting, but is comfy enough to wear at my work station. Cant say enough about this vest, hope they keep making it
All of my other Patagonia clothes are a large and fit well. I really like the style of this vest, but the large is huge. I would exchange for a medium if I hadnt already worn it.

Lately I have read about all the beneficial qualities of hemp but seeing is believing. This vest is like no other product. It seems to be lightweight but man does it keep you warm. The fabric is soft yet sturdy, insulated nicely. Hemp is the future, jump right in.
Very happy with the fit of this vest. After reading previous reviews stating that the product runs kinda large I purchased a size small instead of medium, I am 5' 9" 150 lbs. My only gripe would be the spilt open pocket in the front is not wide enough to fit my iphone while listening to podcasts.

really want to like it
i really want to like the vest. good detailing. i've worn lots of work vests in a career of construction but this one is too long. it constricts right at the bend over spot.

I have been wearing it almost daily since I got it. Warm and comfortable, with well thought out chest pockets (although I haven't used the large back pocket yet). Sizing is tough, though. I realize that Patagonia makes their Workwear line larger for freedom of movement, but for some garments it is excessive, and the variability in fit is a bit... Read More maddening. I'm usually a Large in Patagonia items, including the Workwear Western shirt, which while loose is not excessively so, but this vest was so oversized (as was the Farrier's shirt) that would not be an effective insulating layer, making it practically nonfunctional. I had to downsize to Medium, which is a bit snugger than the usual Patagonia Large sizing, but fits well over a shirt, is comfortable and warm, and should be more useful in a greater variety of conditions.
I really like this vest - it seems very durable, is comfortable and looks great. Patagonia tops run large in my experience and medium usually fits well. My medium vest is still roomy (I'm 6-0, 165 lbs). My only gripe is that there is excess material just below the armholes but it doesn't really bother me when wearing.

In addition to being my go to yard work top layer, I've used it when riding trails on my fat bike, and when hiking. Will Probably use it as a layer for early season and definitely for spring season. My one recommendation, and it's a minor one, is that it would benefit from a a two-way zipper. When sitting with the vest zipped, the vest doesn't lay well.
Purchased this vest for myself as an early Christmas present, I know, selfish. Like the soft hand of the exterior fabric, hope it weathers in, and looks better with age. Pretty toasty with a long sleeve shirt underneath. Love the pocket placement. Long tail is nice for keeping my backside warm. Nice addition to my vest collection.

I was looking for a lightweight insulated vest to wear when working in the yard. This fit the bill perfectly. I already have the hemp canvas work pants-which are amazing, so the vest was a no brainer.
Perhaps I can get used to the bike jersey style length in the back, but for my height a medium is not a good fit, I have to pull it up to stick a hand in my jeans pocket, it's about 3-4" too long. Otherwise I like the weight and feel.
5 stars for looks and function, a difficult combo in work clothes. Got the black and looks better with each washing. Warm, great pocketry, and good flexibility. My wife thinks it looks great too. I am 5'11" and 175 and the medium fits perfect over a layer or two.
Lots of compliments on this piece. Fits great and my favorite combo is layering the Merino Air Hoodie underneath. Love the hidden back pocket! So functional and can fit a lot of stuff (bike lock, extra layer, phone, keys, wallet, water bottle, etc). Will have this for the rest of my life!
This vest fits perfect, I read reviews prior to purchasing and learned to order a size smaller than my usual size. I usually wear a large but purchased a medium and it fits perfectly with just enough room to wear a sweatshirt beneath it. I’m 6’ 1” and 170 lbs.
This is my second hemp canvas vest I purchased. It’s my go to piece in the fall and winter. It looks good it’s durable and well made.
