Protect America’s Arctic Free Shipping on Orders Over $99 Earth Is Now Our Only Shareholder
Alaska Needs You
More mining and drilling in America's Arctic will push us away from a livable Earth and further into climate chaos. Right now, you can help protect our climate, local communities and biodiversity by asking our government to stop extraction in three areas under threat in Alaska.
Orders are shipped within 1-2 business days and arrive within 3-10 business days. Need it sooner? Concerned about the environmental impact? Flexible shipping options are available.
If we have any hope of a thriving planet—much less a business—it is going to take all of us doing what we can with the resources we have. This is what we can do.
I started buying Patagonia before it became so style-conscious
I bought this Powder Town thing hoping to replace a well-worn Patagonia hard shell that I've had for over 25 years (it's still serviceable but looks a bit rough for in-town use).
This new shell is trendy in that it lacks most of the pockets of the old shell and is cut MUCH slimmer -- I like to layer the shell with a down vest and this 202... Read More3 shell will just about do that (but only because the 2022 vest is cut slimmer, too!)
The shell doesn't have a two-way front zip so wearing it while driving will be a pain. And the sleeves are about an inch too long for me which, with the spacing of the velcro fasteners, means that I'll have to fuss with adjusting the velcro every time I put the shell on.
IMO the main zipper is not sturdy enough (it's quite fine and the water-proof seal makes it difficult to use). This is a complaint I have about many of the Patagonia items I own -- the main zips are often too fine and, over a few years, become unusable.
As I said at the top, I was hoping to replace an old hard shell with this purchase. I'm not certain that I've succeeded and this Powder Town shell may be heading back to Patagonia -- for the price I fear that it has too many issues (especially the sleeve length and puny, one-way zipper) that will annoy me every time I wear it.
We're very sorry to hear about the issues you've encountered with the Powder Town shell, Dana. We're here to make sure you find the perfect Patagonia item that meets all your needs. Although none of our shells currently offer a 2-way zipper, we do have a non-insulated shell that is a regular fit and offers a few more pockets. Before this jacket, I had really only used mountaineering style hard shells for skiing, because they are so weatherproof. I am impressed with this jacket and the powder town pants as well. They are lightweight but still hold back all the mountain weather very well, which also allows for a very nice effortlessness in movement that I really appreciat... Read Moree when Im skiing. The features, zippers, pocket layout, and all the other details are very well designed. The fit seems large but I appreciate that as well because I am able to layer anything underneath, including very full loft, large down layers. Cant say enough good things about the powder town line.
The new Powder Town is much lighter, but provides just as much protection as my previous Patagonia shell, which I used for many years and is now in the recycling stream.
The all round winter jacket for all types of skiing. It is a must for casual wear and hitting the dinner circuit. Dont leave home without it, the slopes or otherwise.
Bought to replace a warn out gore tex shell, like the fit and has all of the ski features I was after. Have not skied in it yet, looking forward to it. Love the weight and fabric feel.
Easily the best waterproof/windproof shell that I have owned. It goes well in a professional setting, or meeting friends for drinks. Very warm! The only thing I could add is to expand the colors available. Something brighter and more brilliant than just black, navy blue, or grey.
