good coverage but they run small

However, the active briefs are like the underwear Patagonia has been making all along, except that they run smaller. I wore a medium for 20 years , and I have to order a large in these. Otherwise, they are the same; good coverage and comfortable.

Massive tag

Why is there a 4 layered 5 inch tag sown into the inside back of this garment?

The brief fits like a bikini

(Note:I mistakenly left this same review for the barely hipster, but intended it for the brief) Review of brief: I'm in the " bring back the old style" camp. My old pair sits higher on the hip & fits comfortably (even those weren't actually a "brief" cut), these sit quite low on the hip & create a low "muf... Best undies in the world

I thought the price for these were outrageous, but then a friend suggested I get a pair and during a sale I said… okay! After that time I’ve been hooked. You don’t even feel you’re wearing undies. I do hot yoga and run and no matter what I am always comfortable. On my period or not always comfortable, breathable and fast drying. Save yourself... Read More the hassle and get these for life. They’re the only thing I wear now.

Great undies!

I’ve worn Patagonia undies for years, trying other brands and finding them inferior. These are the same quality as the ones I’ve owned for a decade! Not sure what all the complaints are about the tags. They easily tear off with just a little tug. 🤷‍♀️

Briefs for Everything

I have several pairs of these briefs, and wear them for everything from outdoor activities to nights out on the town. But the stitching on the inside of the waistband has come loose on some of them. They are still functional and you can't see this from the outside. But I wonder how long they will last.

Bring back old style

I bought my older versions about 4-5 years ago. Wear like iron. Perfect. Newer style is smaller, less comfortable, itchy, and not the same. Also, why can't we have good old beige? Why do companies always change tried and true styles?

Tiny bit too large

I bought these for long days of work outside. My sizing is all over the place with Patagonia. Falling apart - again

Several years ago, I ordered these and LOVED them. I still have and wear those pairs all the time. I recently bought several new pairs, to replace all other brands of underwear. Expensive

Might be my last one. I’ve been buying these for over 2 decades. I love the quality and fit however the price is ridiculous.

June 29, 2023

annoying tag

These have been my go-to undies and historically, I've loved them. But this order came with SUPER annoying tags in the back waistband seam and when I cut them out, they leave little bits of white "tag" that pokes me. It's incredibly annoying.

June 24, 2023

Everything changed for the worse

These went from all-time favorite to the donation bin. The new fabric is less stretchy and slippier, making them slide. The tag is a monstrosity. The fit is off. Please bring back the old version!

bring back the old fit and styling

I SO love the old style and fabric with the 2 inch smooth waistband. I have had mine for years.... and I would really like to buy a number of pairs of the same style and fit, but the new fit and fabric and style just doesn't cut it and nobody out there makes anything close to the old style. PLEASE bring them back! And NO tags please!

May 14, 2023

TAGS!

These underwear are ok, but what is with all the tags Patagonia put on them? 3 or 4 long tags that of course can't be cut off all the way so there's a scratchy little piece left to irritate. I also would like to see a cotton liner in the crotch.

Hi Susan! Thank you for writing us a review. We're sorry to hear you feel the underwear weren't advertised correct. This is definitely disappointing. We've reached out to you directly with further assistance.

March 13, 2023

Comfortable

These are comfortable but not something I would buy again. The waistband hits low in the front. I would like them about an inch higher for comfort and fit. Also, with all the tags you have to cut them out and then they are super scratchy unless you can get it cut super close to material without cutting the product, which I am working on.

Great fit

These are my go to underwear. They fit just right, keep me covered but not too much. They stay in place whatever I'm doing.

Cute, comfy, perfect fit

These are so comfortable and feel good on my skin. The only negative thing is the large and long labels sewed in seams were very hard to remove. I ended up ripping out the stitching a little damaging the pants. Very upsetting! Patagonia please stop sewing the huge labels. No one wants them sewed inside the underwear.

Im trying these again but like the reviews Ive been reading for at least three years, these dont rise to the fit, feel, quality of the old ones. It would be nice to know why you dont return to what your customers prefer? You keep passing along the comments and wishes for the old ones but nothing changes. Losing me as a customer.

Please bring back the old style of Active Briefs

I loved the older style of Active Briefs, and I wore them exclusively for 10 years (most of the original underwear not needing to be replaced all that time!). Super Dry

Briefs that cover all the bases namely quick dry, good fit, do not ride up and most importantly cover my bottom unlike bikinis and hipsters. My only complaint is that they are very often out of stock or worse, are substituted with recycled but flimsy material briefs

Wedgie Central

Nothing like the superb design, fit and comfort of the older briefs. These will not stay down on one's cheeks -- they ride up constantly, just even on a simple hike. The old ones were great bought for 15y , but after 2 sets, I've given up. Bad design.

These used to be GOT. The new fabric is fine. The old version was a brief cut. This is more like a bikini. I need a brief cut to stay up on my waist. Wouldn't call it a brief style!

So, just like everyone else, I purchased these after my older model version wore out. I read these reviews but told myself to not be swayed and give them a good try. Read Moreeight and thinner than previous models as well. They did cover my larger butt well, which is surprising because they look so small and insubstantial. But, as I promised I said I'd give them the benefit of the doubt and to my surprise they didn't bug me at all. Like, I literally forgot about them all day. They stayed in place without pulling out wedgies or the waistband rolling down. Keep in mind this is under fitted leggings (pack out tights) so they get help staying in place with tight clothes. I guess the real test will be when I wear a skirt or loose pants. I have a 31" waist and 42" hip so I fall between a medium and large. If I end up buying more I will probably buy a large not because the mediums don't fit but just to see if they might come up a little higher in the front.

January 28, 2022

Please bring back the old versions

This new version is horrible compared to the old ones. There is much less material...the fit is way off. Also, the top band consistently unravels after a couple of wears. I have some from many years ago that are still not unraveled. Sending them back is not a solution. Please just make them good quality and fit!!

One more vote for the old style!

Count me in as one of the people waiting for the return of the old style and ready to replace a dozen pairs of increasingly embarrassing-looking 2015 underwear that I cant give up!

Not like the old active ear briefs!

I am an active 68 year old (hike, climb, canoe, camp etc.) I loved the old style active brief from Patagonia style # 32404. Great style, comfort and wearability. I received a pair of the active hipsters a few years back, which I did not like as they fit lower down on my abdomen, and I simply didn't wear them. I went to purchase active briefs ... Read Morethis spring and was told 32404 were no longer available and had been replaced with style number 32396 but they were out of stock. I put my name in to purchase them when they came in stock. Meanwhile I was shopping in REI last month and found one pair of the active brief 32396, in my size. Excited, I bought them, only to find when I got them home they were the exact same size as the active hipster. They sit lower on the abdomen and measure a smaller distance from waist band to crotch. Why they say this one is a brief when it appears to be the exact same size as the hipster I don't know. I gave the hipster pair and my newly purchased "briefs" to my daughter. I will not be buying this product 32396 even though it is now back in stock. Please, please bring back the old active brief for women like me. I would happily buy ten pairs or more of the old style right this minute.

Bring back the old version

I agree with others. The older version of these panties was so much better. Felt so comfortable. Not like the ones I bought recently.

Please return to 2015 design and Fabric. No Tag.

My (now 22yr old ) daughter and I have worn the Patagonia Active Briefs since 2015. Each year 2015-2019 we pilgrimage walked 1000+ km with only 3 briefs each. We wear them daily at home. We purchase 10 new briefs a year. I agree with all the reviewers. Printed Tags ONLY is preferred. I Always remove the Sewn in paper tags. Your fabric and fit wer... Read Moree best in 2015. We have sadly been wearing the black. But would prefer the previous fabrics in lovely thin striped colours: Green, Purple, White, Rose. I prefer the strong colours to the pastels. Less see-thru for traveling and seems to last longer. The lite Blue thin stripe fabric always seems to wear out rapidly compared to the deeper, stronger colours. Please! Please! I budget a lot of $$ each year to renew our Patagonia Active Briefs drawer. Please just keep making the comfy, non-wedgie, wide waistband, generous butt coverage design in quick dry, light weight, colourful but sturdy fabrics. Thankyou!

Thank you for your review on our Active Briefs. We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. We're always tweaking and refining our designs, and this is one of many that we have done that with. It's apparent that most people are more into the older version. We do read and take into account all of our product reviews, and we hear you loud and clear on this one. It does take time for changes to take place, so we appreciate your patience as we relay this information to our design teams and take next steps. At this point, if you'd like to [send them back](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html) you're more than welcome to, we just ask that you give them a good wash beforehand.

Love these underwear

I was nervous to buy these underwear given the cost and the mixed reviews but I am SO glad I did. They are so light and comfortable. I wear M in nearly all things Patagonia but sized up to a L as I like my underwear to completely cover the butt cheeks. The L was perfect. I had no issues cutting the tags out without damage. I will be buying more whe... Read Moren they are back in stock!

Terribly Disappointed

So So disappointed. Still wear the old pairs for years. The old ones have lasted over 20 years. Please bring them back! Bought one pair of the new and will never buy again. Have looked for the last year for something comparable to the old ones. I can not find anything anywhere that were as perfect as your old ones. Your new ones should not even hav... Doesn't last like it used to

Agree with all who wish Patagonia would go back to the material/design of a few years ago. I get that they are thinner and use more recycled material, but what is the point if they fall apart so much faster that it takes 3-4 pairs to match the longevity of the former sturdier style? And returning them is only using more needless transportation reso... Read Moreurces. Please just make them to last like most of your great products. This change was a swing and a miss. (And yes, the tag is super annoying.)

Is 32396SP18 the current style/cut?

I purchased two pairs of these at recommendation of a salesperson at REI in Nashville in July 2019. Is that the current version? Or can I not re-order the same item? I really like them, just seamless comfy, fit great look great feel great you forget all about them. My tag (still in there, doesn't bug me, but I didn't cut it at all) says S... Hi Emily, yes these are the same style number. We are so glad you like them. It looks like the number you are referencing is from 2018, but the style number has not changed so there have not been any revisions since then.

Tag scratches

I think of Patagonia often as the tag scratches me! I cut most of the tag off up close to seam. If I try to get the rest of it out I would have to cut stitching and then there would be a hole. I like these but, GET RID OF THE TAGS!!!

Great Undies!

I was a little nervous to purchase my first Patagonia undies because of the mixed reviews, but I went ahead and got a few pairs of the Barely Hipsters and a few of the Active Briefs. Both have been exactly what I was hoping for! I love wearing the Barely's pretty much every day, for everything. They are super comfy. They look really small, but... Read More when I put them on they are perfectly soft and stretchy. They don't show too much under my pants, and they stay in place surprisingly well. The Active Briefs are perfect for when I want extra coverage and stay-power for when I am doing something super active or just want the extra support. The Active Briefs do show a line under tighter pants, but they are great under my Baggies. I have been wearing them now for several months, and they are held up really well. I wash mine on cool and air dry them, and they are still just like new. Highly recommend both!

Favorite undies ever

5'6" and 130 lbs. Size small is perfect, these are my favorite undies for skiing, working out, etc.

tag inside is bothersome

ATTENTION DESIGNER Please do me a favor & wear this brief with the tag cut up to the stitching, so there is still a piece left. Wear these all day & see how scratchy the tag feels. I like this underwear, but I dislike the tag inside. I have many of them & have written a review quite awhile ago as have others regarding the tag!! Why you... Read More continue to do this is just absurd!! If you take the stitching out so the whole tag will come off, then you have a hole in the hem at the top. This is because the same stitching that holds the tag on is the same for the hem. Hopefully you will change as I see other reviews regarding this. Who wants to spend the time taking this stitching out, & then have a whole in the hem. I don't have that kind of time. When I purchase a product I expect it to be good without a scratchy tag!!!!

Perfect brief

These briefs are perfect for me. The fit is good and the material is very soft.

Super comfy

These undies are comfy and don't show undie lines in regular pants and shorts.

Most comfortable underwear!

Ive been wearing Patagonia active brief panties since 2013 ( or before; thats the earliest date printed inside). I have 22 pairs of these panties in various colors. The waistband stitching is fraying, but I keep wearing all these panties because the fabric holds up and is so darn comfortable! ( Does Patagonia restitch waistbands?)

Im small, but buy medium because I dont like anything snug.

I wear these for everything. Theyre seamless. Theyre comfortable. They dont show under anything.

I love the lightweight material, and coverage is perfect.
