I love this quarter zip! I exchanged the crew neck version with snaps for this item and LOVE this one. It's a great weight- not heavy but it's definitely warm. I ski a lot and this layer has been perfect for over a thin wool shirt and under my ski jacket. My ski jacket has a hood so I love this shirt without a hood.
Ive always worn a small in Patagonia clothing and have always really liked what I ordered, in fact some items I have worn for years. This top is a wonderful design and thats why 4 star rating. Warm and Cozy
I was curious about how this layer would compare to my tried and true R1 pullover. I took it on a snow backpacking trip this weekend and I have some thoughts. Unfortunately I do have a dealbreaker with this layer and it is the pocket, or rather, the accessibility of the pocket. I love that the pocket is big enough for my phone (though only barely) but I hate that it's a hidden pocket because you have to unzip the whole neck in order to access the darn pocket which was cold and very annoying! The men's version has a sensible outside access pocket, that is what I want too. I would not buy another women's version of this because a useable chest pocket is something I rate very highly in my outdoor wear.

Soft and warm
Love this. Had to go up a size its pretty fitted, but its soft and warm without being too heavy.
I wanted a mid-weight outer layer for running or working out outdoors when temps are in low to mid 30s. Over a lighter weight wicking base layer, this does the trick beautifully.
I absolutely LOVE this fleece. Ittoasty warm yet has temperature regulation! Its my new favorite hiking fleece, and I love the new color. Well done, Patagonia

I bought this to help me ride my bike back and forth to work in Chicago in colder weather without becoming a sweaty, damp mess. So far I've worn it running around for frisbee and just on top of a light sweater hanging outside on cooler nights, and I'm obsessed. So comfy and warm despite it not being bulky.
This fleece pullover is very warm, light ,and soft. I like the material and color. It is very good quality , I can wear it as layer or wear it under a vest if I want to go for a walk , so comfortable ,and I am very happy with it.
I own 3 of the original R1s and this R1 air is warmer, more wind resistant and more comfortable, I could not believe it. The R1 air is also a lot better looking for casual wear. Definitely a keeper.
I like everything about this top - soft, warm and not scratchy. I also love that it is made from 100% recycled fibers. It is fairly breathable when I wear it on brisk walks. Just wish this black/dark grey color were less blah but a vest on top helps brighten it up.

Due to the knit appearance of the face fabric of this particular item, this pilling can be more noticeable To prevent pilling, we recommend washing that item either by hand in cool to cold water, or separately in your washing machine on the gentle cycle. It's best to lay it flat to dry rather than place it in the dryer where the fabric can easily get abraded. To remove pilling that has already occurred, a sweater shaver or sweater stone is an excellent tool and can help the garment look brand new again. Comfortable and looks good
I am enjoying wearing as it looks good (love the smolder blue color) and is so comfortable.
I love the R1 Air fleece pullover for Nordic skiing on cold days (0-10 degrees F). I wear the Capilene Cool Merino under the R1 Air, and the Upstride jacket as my outer layer. A fantastic piece
Let me first start out saying this is a fantastic piece. The warmth to weight ratio with ability to breath is bar none. Just phenomenal. Not to mention its softer than the normal R1's, which I love. So then why 4 stars? The cut is just a little off for me. The shoulders are snug. The back length is a little shorter than I like my cold weather ... Read Moregarments to be (or any top, really, but really important in cold weather). I sized up and can't wear a thin wool baselayer underneath for these two reasons. Patagonia's normal R1's fit me overall a lot better. Fix these two things, and this is a slam dunk winner!
I've been wearing the microD 1/4 zip as base layer for hiking but this R1 air is warmer. It is a bit tighter around chest and shoulders than the micro D but still comfortable. Highly recommend for any outdoor aerobic activities.
This is my go-to mid-layer for skiing. I love how warm it is for how light-weight it is. It also breathes well, so I don't overheat. Washes up great and dries very quickly. I bought the full zip air fleece & loved it so I bought the zip neck. The medium (my usual size) was way too small so I exchanged it for the large & The large was too big so I returned it.

My favorite thing
I have basically not taken this off since I got it. It is so light, so warm, and so cute! I am always an M in Patagonia, but I chose to go up to an L in this. The M fit like a shirt, and I wanted a jacket fit.
I just received my pullover and have gone for one trail run with it so far but I am IN LOVE and couldnt wait to write a review. It was about 30 degrees out today. Wore a Patagonia short sleeve shirt underneath. It kept me warm without getting overheated and sweaty. I am a happy girl! Well worth the price. The only improvement I could wish for would... Read More be pockets. The chest pocket isnt quite big enough for my phone, so wish it had hand pockets for headband/phone. But other than that it is a wonderful product. This is my first Patagonia purchase and I am a huge fan!! Small was a perfect fit. Am 5 ft 5 and about 123 lbs.
The lofty baffles of fleece, though small, pack tremendous heat on this pull-over that I wear over a merino base layer as a sweater. In the winter of mountainous Santa Fe, I remain toasty warm all day long. I committed to owning three of these and rare is the day that I am not wearing one! My only negative observation is that the sleeves could be longer, but at 5'8" and 95 lbs, everything XS fits well in the body but could use longer sleeves for me.
This shirt is amazingly warm. Fit is very close to my 10 year old R1. It fits like a base layer. If you want room to fit any layers other than a slim fitting layer, order a size up. I.e. if you are looking for a sweater, order up. I love the long length in the back.
Great top, but the large is better than the medium on me. I like them roomier and longer, and I like the longer large. I gave my mediums away. Nice new wool white color. 5'7" 140 lbs. The R1 Fleece pullover is a better length.
I live in 1/4 zip shirts especially during cooler months. Nice weight and silhouette. Have not washed it, yet. But have not had an issue with Patagonia garments if washed on cold, into the dryer for a brief time to get the wrinkles out and hang to dry while still damp.
Sizing is way off. Runs small. Arms long. Returning it.
This is one of the few misses I've had with Patagonia. Sizing was too tight in body and sleeves were several inches too long. I should have read the reviews as this is common complaint. Thankfully the return support was good!

Beautiful Teal color. Lovely fabric. I love the air fabrics. Warm. Only complaints - I'm usually between a medium and large and the large is still a little on the snug side, also the pocket near the neck seems a little strange (I wouldn't carry anything there except maybe a dollar bill or a debit card and the zipper sticks out if the neck... Love this pullover so much! I read the reviews and ordered one size up. Im typically a medium but ordered a large and Im glad I did. It fits perfectly! Im going to buy another in a different color!
I ordered a medium and felt it was a little small. So, I ordered a large. Its a little big. I kept the large so I have room for a wool T-shirt underneath. I love the color and material.

Love this top!
I love my R1 air zip neck fleece. It is lightweight and breathable and not too warm to wear indoors during the cooler months yet still provides lots of warmth when layering for winter adventures. Ive received many complements on the light currant blue color. The top is slim fit and has nice long sleeves which fits my body very well.
I really like this newer airy, yet warm, techy fleece. Easy to wear on its own but thin enough to layer with if needed. It is very warm for its weight. Saved my bacon on a colder than expected surf trip in NorCal. Love it!

Versatile Super Warm Fleece
What an excellent piece of fleece! It keeps me warm, very warm. I weight 90 lbs so keeping me warm is very important. I have many collection of good quality garments, but this piece is excellent for layering and it can be for many uses. I use it a lot at work under my down jacket, thats all I need. R1 Air around the house and I wear the older R1 version out hiking and snowshoeing. Im sure that when I do decide to wear the newer R1 Air out in nature, I will be pleased with it. My only minor complaint is that the zipper tabs stick out and the pocket would be larger. I bought this fleece for everyday winter wear and it has worked out well. It's soft, slimmer fitting than some of the other fleece, and more flattering. I must admit that the fleece has worn down on my forearm from friction. Otherwise, perfect.

I got this for my mom for Christmas. We both really liked the color and the textured pattern. It does fit her well. Form fitting so it will show any pudge you have around the middle, so it maybe keep this in mind for an underlayer or wear highwasted pants.

An interesting new piece for Patagonia. As usual (and I have been a Patagonia wearer for 33 years, and own just about everything), the fit is long and narrow. I purchased a L, simply so it would fit across my bust. I am not a L person by any stretch, but Patagonia's fit assumes women have very small chests but long waists. On the positive side... The left chest has a pocket with a zipper--a great idea for a guy, maybe, but I'm unaware of any women who want to slip anything, even a credit card or license, into a pocket directly over their breast.

Super soft
Wasn't expecting how soft it would be! I have an older R1 from several years ago and this is definitely a cozy upgrade. A great mid-layer for colder days or on its own in the spring and fall. I am taller and I'm always very happy with the length of Patagonia's tops/sleeves. This is no exception.
This quarter zip offers plenty of warmth over a lightweight shirt or on its own. I have it in grey and blue and love the texture.. It keeps me warm on my walks and looks stylish enough to stop for brunch.
I was so excited to receive this fleece. It is warm, light weight, and versatile. I enjoy running and walking in it. I am glad I sized up, because I needed the additional space in the arms. This piece is easy to layer, which makes it a nice pullover to ski in as well!
Fits snuggly over capilene base layer which is great. Love the patterned soft fabric and green color. Breathes well. Inside chest pocket is nice, but wish the access didnt require unzipping the neck.
I do not like tight fitting clothing and this fleece is fabulous. A base layer fits nicely underneath and shoulders are roomy enough to fit my swimmer shoulders. Besides being soft and super comfortable, the fleece is warm. If I could have have one in every color, I would. I would love to see some brighter colors though.
The top is very easy to put on in the morning. No decisions to make. I have two. The first one is a plain neck and the second is a zipper.
I would love to purchase a few more; however they seem to be sold out!

This R1 is super comfy. I'm happy that it's not tight in the armpit area so it's easy to put on and take off. Like other R1s, it is odor-resistant so multiple day wear is an option (helpful for traveling!).
I have an older R1, which I also love, but thought I would try the new R1 Air. I love it! It has nice long sleeves, a longer length than my R1, is softer, and seems to be just as warm and have a good amount of wind resistance. Very pleased.
I thought "Air" would mean thin and cool (like it does for your Houdini Air jacket), but I this zip T has the thickness of a mid-layer. I really miss Patagonia's old long-sleeve, THIN capilene zip-T. This is one piece in the Patagonia line that may warrant either purchasing two and returning one, or trying before you buy as there is no universal advice about sizing up or staying at your normal size as some other Patagonia pieces seem to fall into.
But this is a stellar new addition. I love it. And recommend highly for anyone who spends time outdoors for work, play, exploration...and needs to know that it just looks GREAT too.
I have several Patagonia tops that I love and fit well. I have always bought size small. This top was extremely tight and extremely long. I was very sad that I had to return it. I loved the fabric.

Wanted to love it, but...
I purchased and love two other Air products. But this one doesn't feel the same at all. Seems to have no lateral stretch so moving in it was quite uncomfortable. Wouldn't give with my movements. I have many quarter zip tops from Patagonia but this one doesn't work with me. Sent it back.
Used as a mid layer while cross country skiing. Kept me warm and comfortable. Runs a tad big but I did wear it over something. I sweat through my under shirt and the R1 had no smell!!!!!! Super soft too. Will be using for all activities ! 58 155 and bought size L
Love the textured look and zippered pocket on inside. Purchased a medium so that I could easily layer under it. Very nice fit for my small frame 56 120 lbs.
i have been wearing this every week mon-sat since i bought it. it is very warm. i chose this over the baselayer top cuz it was less tight fitting design. i gave 4 stars cuz the fabric is not stretchy so it is a bit hard to put on and take off unless you buy one size up.

I love the color and the fabric, but this fleece is made for a woman who is big on top and small in the hips. Neither the M or the L fit me, as I am small waisted and curvy on the bottom. Sad to send it back.

New go to pullover fleece

A super cozy shirt that is beautiful. I can wear it to work and to play (ie Mountain Biking, Hiking and backcountry skiing). Love the colors and design. I have a long neck so I personally would like a higher neck but this is not a game changer.
I have several Patagonia capilene thermal weight baselayers and sometimes wear a lightweight vest over them if its chilly in the house or I need extra warmth outside. The new R1 Air zip-neck fleece is not only warmer, but the inside fleece is very soft and comfortable against the skin.
I absolutely love this new fleece. It fits perfectly, is so soft, and the color is so gorgeous. I wear it under my ski jacket and it kept me warm in negative degree weather.
This new R1 Air is the perfect layer. I can combine it with a shell for skiing and not get too warm. I can wear it around the house comfortably or while doing yoga. I like that it is a bit longer than other layers as well!
In the past few years, I have returned almost every item I have bought for myself because your current sizing does not fit me. Comfy and good looking

Layers easily over a long sleeved base layer and under a jacket. Knew from the moment I put it on this is another Patagonia favorite Ill be wearing for many years. Soft, warm with great ease of movement.
I bought a size medium. The arms are long, width is narrow. Weird fit and realized after wearing for a day it was not comfortable at all. Fleece is my go to for winter, this one does not cut it.
This fleece is even better in person than in the picture. The color and texture are so unique. Its warm and cozy and makes it easy to move around. Usually when I order a size Medium I have a little extra room but not with this fleece. Its more form fitting than other Patagonia fleece I have. But I love it!
Easy to clean and dry. I also like the style and color. I used to wear size S but last time I wear another S sweater, I feel a little bit tight. So this time I try M.
