I normally wear a size 2 / Small. I decided to get an XS as many reviews said these run a little big. Glad I did because I prefer my base layers to fit like leggings. For someone who is constantly cold, these keep me very warm, and are so comfortable I wear them everywhere from my house, under my pants, and on the mountain.
I bought these for both winter wear under Patagonia trail pants and lounging/being at home. The fit is great for lounging. I think I will order medium for wearing under pants. The pants are high quality and the waste band is a pleasure. Nice color. They wash and air dry well with cold water. Enjoy!! Thank you again Patagonia!
I only gave this four out of five stars because of the fit. I can wear a small/4 or medium/6 (5'8", about 140 lbs) but it's hard to predict with Patagonia. In terms of durability, I've had these for YEARS with frequent wears & washings (air dried) and only one pair developed a small hole around the gusset area recently which I got repaired through Patagonia. Their repair workmanship is so awesome that it's kinda hard for me to find where the hole was, and the pair has not developed new holes since.
I do agree that the waist band can feel tight sometimes (especially on full belly/when I gain weight xD), but the discomfort is probably more pronounced because the rest of the leggings is so comfy & soft~
I have had these tights for 9 years this season and they are still in excellent condition after seasonal use every year. They go under my snow pants and have never failed to keep me warm on even 10 degree days. Worth the investment as always - my whole snow kit is Patagonia and its all excellent.
They reminded me of an old pair of Patagonia long underwear I had as hand-me-downs from the 90s and I waited months before pulling the trigger. These pants are, in a word: delicate. When I first bought these, I didn't take them off for a week! They are so warm and cozy. Excellent baselayer for outdoor chores and skiing, or just on their own as lounge pants. So comfortable, so warm
These are a perfect fit, high waisted, full stretch, and incredibly warm. When paired over a thin base layer I stay warm under my shell snowpants skiing in the resort. I was also happy that I could find something in my size. Being 5'2" and my weight fluctuating between 95 and 110 lbs it's difficult to find small enough clothing, and Patagonia offers that to me. These are the base layer bottoms that I wear for winter hiking and skiing because they are warm without bulk and breathable for high output activities. Best Merino base layer
Second time ordering these! They're the most lightweight, non scratchy, warm base layer bottoms (similar to any other Merino 200 but lightweight!). I usually wear a medium in any pants, any brand but those I wear a small or they'd be too loose.
I love the redesign of this. My last pair fit loose in the waist, these are nice and long with medium tight waist band. Comfortable when damp and warm enough for cold ski days or winter camping. These are the perfect base layer for colder trips. They don't feel bulky and maintain temperature like a champ. We've had various iterations of this weight capilene and the current version is durable and as comfortable as ever.
I love the capilene technology. This is my first pair of pants Ive bought with it- but they work great. A little bigger than I expected (except the waist area) so I can wear base layer tights under them on extra cold days. Then my wind and water resistant pants on top.
These bottoms are fantastic! They are warm and very comfortable. I've been wearing them almost daily since they arrived. I usually wear them under pants when I go out in the cold and sometimes I wear them to bed as PJ's. I will definitely be getting another pair if they are in stock.

I have a 16 hip/waist difference and as a result just dont wear pants other than sweatpants. I was excited to use these pants as a base layer for skiing. They fit me quite comfortably however I wore them once and they ripped at the seam. They did a great job of keeping me warm but the material is low quality.
I was worried after reading other reviews that these changed, weren't warm, or were super baggy. Fortunately, they fit me great (I'm curvy and athletic). And they are also warm and similar to the ones I ordered a few years ago and wore out after many days of use.

I bought these as a sleeping layer for summer alpine backpacking so I sized up to make sure they weren't too tight. Super disappointed! These do not fit at all like my mid-weight capilene bottoms in the same size. They are really warm and soft, but I will return them because the waist band is too tight and the hips are too big.
I have just purchased my third pair. They are light in weight but provide great warmth in the cold. I spend a lot of time hiking, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing.
For how thin these are they are shockingly warm. I wear them underneath ski bibs and the Simul Alpine Pants on cold hikes for all day warmth. Not itchy either. My only complaint is that they become a little shapeless after initial wear. The ankles don't cinch now and I find myself pulling up the waistband frequently.
I initially ordered a large, based on the size chart. When the package arrived, an XL had been sent by mistake. Contacted customer service and, based on our discussion, I ordered a medium. They shipped it to me in two days and sent me a free return label. Great service! Wonderful company!
I expected a thicker, cozier fabric. This is much different from the same weight I bought years ago and only now need replacing. I was very disappointed and sent them back.

Once the hole started,it quickly went to the size of a quarter. I sewed it up,but soon another hole appeared on the OTHER thigh, then the crotch, then further down the leg, always around the seams. The cloth seemed to be very thin, and the holes grew even as I stitched them shut. I did wash them in the clothes washer with my other clothes, but I never put them in the dryer.
They managed to make it to Maine (they were sent home for about 2.5 months in the summer),but didn't last long after that before they were totally shredded.
I loved these bottoms, but they didn't hold up to the test.
I usually wear these under a softshell pant while skiing (generally cross country on cabin trips and longer day trips). I like that they are not super thick so you do not overheat while being active, but if you open the side vents on your pants, these will prevent you from getting too cold. If I do not wear these on ski approaches I will most often b... Read Morering them to wear at night (paired with a warm jacket this allows me to get away with a higher rated sleeping bag).
I also wear them around the house as an alternative to pajama bottoms or leggings,I think they are super comfortable. The only draw back I have found is they do seem to run a little short (I am 5'6",135-140 lbs and wear a small),and the elastic has gotten twisted up in the waistband, although this doesn't bother me too much. I will definitely buy another pair of these once my current ones wear out.
I'm torn on these. While I don't like the fact that they are see-through due to the striped construction of the fleece inside, they are *very* comfortable and fit great -- including, for me,the waistband. But they wear out easily and are a little cold for being 'thermal weight'. I like to be able to wear these as an outer garment ... Read More('leggings') when I feel like it -- bouldering, quick trips to the grocery store, sitting at a picnic table on a camping trip, etc and they fall quite short in that regard.
Don't like the waistband in these. It has a sticky plasticy feeling and is too tight. Uncomfortable. Fit is appropriate in the rest of the garment,so I don't think I was in wrong size. I'm always a small in Patagonia, and I got the smalls. On the plus side, they seem a bit longer than some previous year's capilene bottoms. Wish th... Read Moreey'd bring back the R1 tights from a few years ago. That is the warmest base layer I've ever found. Keep trying to find something comparable with no luck. Will be returning these, unfortunately.
Where's the length? I'm 5'4" tall, and these fit like they're cut for a petite height. No good, gotta go back. Plus, they're a bit transparent, and the whole world could see your butt cheeks or thong color. Not cute.
They work fine and I use them. However, for leggings that cost more than $50 and are designed to be warm,I expect them to be opaque (not see-through). I saw previous reviews and decided to purchase anyways but I'm not sure if I'd purchase again. I'd like to be able to wear them alone as a morning layer for around camp.
I used them in... Read More the Grand Tetons as an underlayer with a fleece for 30 degree night temperatures in the "tent cabins". I was moderately warm, but not overly impressed.
They fit well and are warm but I thought these would be thicker. They are somewhat see-through, especially if you are wearing dark underwear. I bought these for under my snowboarding pants so it will be fine, I'll just have to wear nude underwear if I want to wear them by themselves.
These are comfortable, durable, and flattering. I would buy more of them if I could. They run true to size and have a comfortable and effective waist band so they stay up well (best waist band on any Patagonia leggings I've ever bought). I'll admit I thought they would be a little thicker because they are called "thermal weight"... Read More but they still seem plenty warm.
