A tiny bit warm for hot climates, but worth it
I live in the south and use this for casual wear and running. It is a little warm for running in 90+ degree temps with southern humidity but I still use it because I sweat a lot and I have yet to find a shirt that is not wool that will not eventually smell like a dumpster as soon as I start getting warm. The wool solves that problem and it's g... Read Morereat. I think the only solution that might work would be make the material thinner but I have one of these shirts that was two or three iterations older and was thinner and it got holes in it quickly. Longevity with this shirt has not been a problem, so far. They do pill with some washing and use but not significantly for me. It may be different if you're carrying a pack. Overall, really like the fit, style, odor control.
Shirt will not last
The merino wool shirt looks and feels great, but I noticed during my hike on my first wear of the product, there was already pilling occurring everywhere the shirt contacts my backpack. This shirt will not last and is terrible with any kind of friction. I thought the activity was catered towards active wear, but might be better for casual wear if y... Read Moreou don't wear bags.
Thanks for the review, Tenny. We're sorry to hear how quickly this shirt has started to pill. The shirt is too short. If you pick up your arms, your navel is exposed. These shirts used to fit right. Two stars for the effort they put in.

Fave running tee
This has replaced all other running shirts for me. I prefer the men's cut to the women's for ease of movement (the men's xs hits just at/above my natural hip and doesn't cling, the women's cuts fit longer) and I run in these in all seasons. They are definitely not the most durable - I ripped a hole in my first one tugging i... Read Moret back down after it rode up beneath a light pack while biking - but I think that's an expectable tradeoff for such lightweight merino. Launder gently and know that it may not look beautiful forever but it will continue to feel awesome - that holey first shirt is still in rotation and going strong.
comfortable but not for hotter temps
I like the Capilene Cool merino shirt overall. It dries quickly, feels nice against the skin and doesn't really cling to the body when sweaty. The negative is that it does seem to trap heat more than my goto hiking capilene cool daily shirts. Wearing the cap cool merino shirt in 85F/30C hikes for a week with the sun beating down, I noticed the... Read More shirt trapped heat more than the 100% polyester cap cool daily shirt. I could feel heat escaping out up from the neck collar onto my face when the collar opened up while hiking. I don't get this with the cap cool daily shirt. So in terms of better temp regulation, I feel the cap cool merino doesn't do so well in warmer temps above 80F/26C. The shirt seemed pretty durable, having endured quite a bit of thorny bushwacking sections, although it did suffer two holes. The wool mix helps prevent your typical polyester runs from those kind of holes, so that is a benefit as compared to something like the cap cool trail. I don't think the cap cool merino will replace my goto hiking shirt, the cap cool daily, though, because of the heat trapping.

I have been eyeing this T-shirt for some time now and decided to just buy it, and I'm glad I did. It is very, very soft and comfortable which is what I expected for it being part Merino Wool. You might be thinking this seems pricey, but it will absolutely become your favorite t-shirt. It fits perfectly, keeps you cool in summer and feels great in winter too. Very lightweight. I have had mine for a year, washed and dried it several times and its the exact same fit as the day I bought it.

Like most, i was mostly skeptical about the claims surrounding Merino wool shirts not picking up odors and such and being great for travel in tropical climates etc. but after having tested these extensively before an upcoming trip overseas, i can report they are amazing and do just that. Well desighned, very small overall
This material is great, super light and cool, has great breathability. Hey Michael, thanks for the review. This shirt has a slim fit which could be why it feels smaller than other mediums you have tried. You can check on the fit by looking underneath the size range options on the product page. I bought this year for cooler day hikes and just general wear but yet to wear it more than a few times. So far the wool blend feels really nice! The fit is definitely on the slimmer side so I'd order a size up unless you like a trimmer fit (I'm ~150lbs and I exchanged for a L even though I'm normally a M or even a S in some cases!).
True classics; regulate heat no matter the weather
Patagonia Cap Cool Merino Graphic MTB shirts are the best. Light weight but regulate heat, summer or winter, they are my go-to favorites as a true modern classic. Also, due to Patagonia's mission-led philosophy and new ownership, I now buy exclusively from you for my MTB and fly fishing needs.
Very comfortable t shirt
I have only had this shirt for a month but I have worn it a few time and found it very comfortable and well constructed. The graphic print on mine is nice, without being a full on logo. The perfect t-shirt
I've had this shirt for a couple weeks now and so far it has been flawless. This shirt is really translucent and thin. It honestly feels like you aren't wearing anything. That said it is soft and very stretchy and super comfy so I am going to give it a go. Cool in the heat and does not retain body odor
For multi-day use this shirt is greatly superior to Capeline, because you can wear it for many days in a row and it does not smell (unless you ask my wife). Read More the touch and light weight. The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because I think a byproduct of it being such a fine fabric is that it is somewhat delicate to my mind and it'd be nice if it was a little more sturdy. Bottom line, I love the shirt and recommend it.
Light and soft!
Im 59.5 145 pounds and got both a small and a medium. The small is form fitting and the medium hangs just a bit looser. I love them both and still have no idea if Im a small or medium. The small is great as a base layer, the medium more casual as a tee on its own. And they pack down to nothing! Love them!
Impressed with the weight and finish
This is my first cool merino shirt after using silk weight capilene for well over 15 years. I must say I expected this to be bulkier than it is. Great shirt that shrunk
I love the shirt for its comfortable and light weight material. The only issue was when I washed it, it shrunk a little and doesnt fit right anymore. Had it not shrunk, it would have been one of my favorites.
Hi Zeke! Thank you for reaching out to us about this. We're really sorry to hear that the shirt shrunk in the wash. Impressed with the fit and feel
I've been a patagonia diehard for years, and lately, I've felt like a little bit of the luster has faded. Enter this shirt, and it brought me right back. Felt great. Fit was spot on. the merino blend is light and airy, but doesn't feel like it will lose its shape. Nice to see the merino in the athletic line.
Awesome Everyday Shirt
I own and operate a sea kayaking operation in coastal Alaska and this t-shirt is a great, everyday go to while guiding. Soft, warm, everything you'd expect from Patagonia & wool. My other wool t's from other companies get holes in a matter of weeks, but this one seems pretty tough. Go on, get the shirt.
Great cut, fabric seemed nice, shrank quickly
This shirt was great initially. Wool blend with nice color, cut, and weight. Pretty much perfect.
