Fantastic sun hoody for hot and sunny environments.
This sun hoody is a great layer for climbing, hiking, and trail running. I have several. Very light and thin. For hot environments, its great. A downside for me is that when I am trail running with a hat and the hood up over the hat, the wind tends to blow the hood off. So I have added "Kam Snaps" to each of the ones I own so that I can ... Read Moresecure the hood similar to the button on the Tropic Comfort Hoody or the now discontinued Sunshade Technical Hoody (my favorite, I must own like 5 or 6). While this hoody is great, if the environment you are in can transition to being cold, I find that I prefer a thicker fabric like on the Tropic Comfort or Sunshade Technical Hoody. They both still wick well, keep the sun off, and keep you pretty cool, but due to the thicker fabric I feel like they work much better when it gets colder out... which tends to happen for me when climbing, hiking, and trail running in the mountains and desert... so I will typically go for these slightly thicker layers instead, personally. If its pure cooling performance you want in hot and sunny environments, the Capilene Cool Daily Hoody is probably what you want. As a side note / comparison against other brands. I personally feel the Black Diamond Alpenglow wrist and forearm fabric is too tight and restrictive, so I prefer the looseness of the Patagonia sun hoodies more. I can't remember how its hood works out while running. Outdoor Research Echo Sun Hoody is super thin and light fabric, so probably less abrasion resistant, less UV protection. Its hood will also flop back when running unless you modify it with "Kam Snaps" or something else. I really appreciate that the Patagonia layers all have little sewn in hang loops. A lot of other brands miss this detail. I personally care enough that I will tend to sew on my own hang loops for other brands jackets and sun hoodies when I find that they don't come with them.
Very Poor Quality - Disappointed
Purchased in April 2023. Always been a fan of Patagonia products bc of their quality, Consistency, and the company culture. I love it so much I bought 2. I wear these shirts all the time, year round. Bought for sunny days guiding clients down the Colorado river, but use for hiking, layering, and trips to Mexico and Belize. The material holds up so well, no fading, no piling. Cant say enough great things about this shirt!
Perfect travel shirt
I ordered this to have something to wear while flying and it has become a popular choice in my wardrobe. Light, soft and comfy, this daily hoody is the first piece of clothing I reach for when I get home from the office. It is loose fitting, super soft and looks great too. It also launders well and comes out of the drier with no wrinkles.
My husband really likes this and is thinking of another one. He does wish that it had a little pocket on the front chest and thumb holes similar to the first hoodie he bought several years ago.

Hey Clarissa, thanks for the review. It sounds like your husband may have had some kind of variation on the Tropic Comfort Hoody. While we do not have a version with a pocket at this time, we do have the [Men's Tropic Comfort Natural Hoody](https://www.patagonia.com/product/mens-tropic-comfort-natural-sun-hoody/41930.html?dwvar_41930_color=TGY) which has thumb loops. The best shirt I've ever owned
I have probably worn this for 6 months in the 3 years I've owned it. I've done month long expeditions with this as my only shirt. I sized up to a medium, still fits but a bit baggy, and it is perfect. Keeps you cool in sun, and when the sun sets the sleeves and hood add just enough warmth. This is the best shirt I've ever used. Fit for the Tropics
I have worn capilene for decades primarily as a base layer during the colder months or for sun and insect protection during the warmer months, but I recently purchased two more for a trip to Costa Rica. When everyone else was commenting or complaining about the heat, I was cool and very comfortable and never felt overheated. I may never wear a t-shirt on a warm tropical hike again. A+ Patagonia!
A great layer
I work at a ski resort in a capacity that has me going form a desk to the slopes so layers that can do a few things are important and this one does them all very well. 1) can be worn many days in a row without smelling terrible. Nice light hoodie shirt
Bought this to try and expand my fall closet wear. Material is nice and comfortable, no stretch in the material which is both good and bad. I have a 54 inch chest and larger arms so it's tight in the forearms more than I typically prefer and I can't stretch it out. That said I've gotten used to it and it's nice it doesn't shrink in the wash. The material is wicking and fast drying from what I've experienced. It also does a great job keeping you comfortable in warmer weather or direct sun. Would have been nice to have thumb holes, otherwise the shirt is nice. I do feel it is a durable made shirt and would buy it again.
Though described as a Cool Daily Hoody, I found this shirt very warm, comfortable, lightweight, and practical. I will wear it for most any daily activity and especially for skiing and hiking. This hoody also looks like a great layer for after surfing, especially on a cooler day. Thank you!
Runs small, had to return and repurchase
Bought this but sizing runs a size small, had to return for larger size in a different color. In all, once you get the right size it's a pretty good shirt hoodie. Material is comfortable and will do well with keeping your arms and neck protected. Worth purchasing on sale, but definitely size up.
Make it with thumb holes please!
I lived in this hoody for two weeks on the Continental Divide Trail gravel biking route, riding up and down the spine of the Rockies and sweating thru it multiple times / day. Good sun protection
Very good sun protection. Surfing one afternoon with the hood in use, was very satisfying. On the beach with hood in use and a hat on was great. Before I realized, the shirt was dry. The only disappointment is the sleeve length is to short, exposing 3 inches of my wrist.

The hoodie fits me well at 6'2" and 250lbs. It has been the perfect item for the fall weather as layering becomes necessary again. Even better is how small it can compact when not in use. One of the two that I bought fits perfectly. Ive got several of these, love them. The material is soft and silky, breathes well, and has a bit of stretch. Im 5 ft 11, 175 lbs, I can wear a medium or a large but the medium is a bit tight.
