Excellent customer service for great bag
I purchased a 70L duffle bag for a safari. The bag was too large for a short, older woman to carry. I brought it to the store after the trip as part of the worn product policy. I was extremely pleased that the store gave me a full refund for the product because it was still in excellent condition and I had not had much opportunity to enjoy it. Rare... Its a GREAT pack for a week+ of travel camping/hiking. I fit my trekking poles, sleeping bag, hiking boots, etc in there and still fit more. The zippers on the top lid are an excellent addition. Buy it once, have it forever
This bag was an investment purchase. It is durable, made responsibly, and will clearly last a lifetime with good care. I chose Patagonia over the other brands because of the sustainability aspect. I don't want to have to buy another duffle bag again, and this bag checks all the boxes.

Tough, rugged and good water protection
I ordered the 70 L black hole to compliment the other black hole bags I'm using. These are perfect for storing gear and clothing in my van having them ready for use when I need. I can toss the bag on the ground (at our dry) and feel confident the gear inside is protected.
I tested out this bag for the first time as a checked bag while traveling. I was able to buy a discounted bag for a color that was going out of style. It is incredibly sturdy (it was packed completely full) and I appreciate the details. The 70l is a good size for me for longer trips or to hold hiking gear. It withstood the airport (I removed the backpack straps first). It was great for a weeklong trip.
I bought this to hold my snowboard gear during the winter and camping gear in the summer. It fits my boots, pants, jacket, helmet, etc. easily. I love that it is waterproof and has an interior pocket to hold little stuff. The backpack handles are a little awkward when you want to carry without strapping to your back but it isn't a big deal.
Better off with a backpacking pack
(70L) Decided to use this bag for traveling/backpacking in SE Asia based on a couple recommendations. Cannot stress this enough when I say I should have gotten an actual backpacking pack. The product is good and the duffel bag is solid, but using it as a backpack with the straps is unbearable. Trying to lug it around an airport by the handle or str... Read Moreaps is miserable (perhaps the wheeled version is better but then thats even more money). Very overpriced for what you get. Some of the more expensive backpacks are not even as much as this bag. It fits a ton, but then you cant carry it which defeats the purpose. In Asia now, I am highly considering ditching this bag and buying a proper backpacking bag. My fault for buying this bag, traveling is NOT what it is meant for.
We're sorry for the disappointment. It does sound like you need to find a true backpack with a frame designed for carrying all the gear on your back, properly distributing the weight throughout for the kind of traveling you're doing. The backpack straps on this duffel are merely for quick carry for a short time. And the wheeled version is well-suited for longer transit. We recommend that you check with a [Patagonia-owned store](https://www.patagonia.com/store-locator/) about trading your bag to Worn Wear for merchandise credit. Please reach out to our Customer Service team if you have any additional quesitons. We'll be happy to help!
Quality Duffel Bag
I was just looking for a simple duffel bag for all around use. This one seems good quality though Ive only used it once. The zipper feels durable and smooth. Read More would have been nice. My only real complaint is the storability. The bag comes neatly packed into itself using one of the pockets as a storage pouch. Hey Brett, thanks for the review, we appreciate your feedback. We're happy to help you with the process of getting the bag back into its pocket; please reach out to [customer service](https://help.patagonia.com/s/?_gl=1*jvq3w8*_ga*MTE3MzgxOTU4OS4xNjQ3NTMxMTc0*_ga_1SYPSJZYJ5*MTY3NTcyNjQ4NC41MDEuMC4xNjc1NzI2NDg0LjAuMC4w) for further detail. First, we remove the backpack straps and unzip the front pocket from both ends, while also unzipping the top of the bag. Next, we tuck the backpack straps to the side of the duffel opposite the front pocket, and fold the sides downward, while tucking in the top flap into the bag. From there, we flip the bag so the bottom is upwards and button up the handles together across the bottom. Then, you'll want to fold the bag into thirds, and then fold that in half once more. At that point you can begin to push the bag into the pocket by going one side at a time. We realize the process is a bit complicated typed out, so we encourage you to reach out to us so we could send some pictures along with instruction.

Black Hole Bag saved my holiday!!
I was recently flying home for the holidays. I had just received this Black Hole Bag and had it packed with lots of holiday goodies. Well...the airline lost my bag. The best duffel bags available
I have just bought my 3rd and 4th duffel. I have been using the 40L and the 55L for about 3 months and I suspect others are reading through wondering what size they need. I have bought a second 55L to use for skiing and a 70L for trips >1 week. These are amazing bags that seem extraordinarily durable even after many car/airplane trips in a compressed period of time. They have internal structure, which to me makes them easier to pack & then open & live out of than Patagonias bean-based competitors bags with a similar reputation for durability. My only gripe is that I wish there was the option to use a traditional shoulder sling.
Truly a black hole
70l black hole bag is exactly what you think it is. A well made, durable black hole. Water resistance coating really beefs up the outer protection. The bag has enough room to fit multiple shoes, all your casual clothes as well as some of my cycling or hiking gear making it the perfect bag for medium to long getaways.
Amazing ability to carry so much!
Our family have been "black hole" Patagonia users for many years. I finally caved and got the 70L size (for myself!) for an upcoming trip to Italy. For road trips, this is my go to bag. I pack everything in and throw it in the trunk of my car. Black Hole Bags - Great for everything!
Our family are huge fans of the Black Hole bags. Amazing for family travel, especially with the backpack straps. Before the full line was available we had The North Face version for our kids. Read Mores for school which was great (we are big fans of Patagonia and have been for years & years). We live in Colorado and try to get up to the mountains as often as we can, easy to throw in the car and stack. Thank you for great options. Great bags, lightweight, and zippers work fantastic!
Holds a TON, easy to transport
I originally bought this bag because I needed a travel bag that didn't have wheels because many places I went weren't wheely bag friendly (lots of dirt and sand paths or stairs) and was still easy to carry. This bag has taken a beating throughout the US, Europe, South Africa, Botswana, and my remote field work area in Namibia. I've even used this bag in place of a proper "backpacking" pack for an overnight hike in the Black Forest in Germany. Note for flyers: this is definitely not a carry-on-friendly size, but if you need a few weeks' worths of travel gear or you are bringing larger gear, this bag is your go-to! I highly recommend this bag and am considering getting a smaller size for shorter trips as this (70L) one can be a little awkward to carry when it isn't very full (collapses on itself).
Awesome Bag, larger than expected
Just received my bag in the mail. Very pleased with the quality of it, but was surprised by how large it is (guess they don't call it that black hole for nothing). Was curious is anybody has any experience carrying this on a plane in the overhead compartment. It seems like completely full might be too large?? I have 70L. Thanks !
Hey Greg, thanks for the review. The 70L version of this bag measures in at 28" x 17.5" x 13", so it might be too large to use as a carry on for most airlines. We can confirm that we have been able to use the [Black Hole Duffel Bag 55L](https://www.patagonia.com/product/black-hole-duffel-bag-55-liters/49342.html?dwvar_49342_color=CNY&cgid=luggage-black-hole-bags) which comes in at 26.7" x 15.7" x 11.8", but we can't guarantee that would be the case for all airlines. The Black Hole 40L wheeled duffel or regular duffel versions should be safe bets.

Great customer service, but not sure on the bag
I left this bag in my car when hiking in Utah (very hot day) and it melted in the sun. I had left the flap open so it was plastic on plastic, but seems like something that it should hold up in. No fuss on the exchange at the store, but still a bit worried on durability. Let's see how round two goes.
Thank you for the feedback on the bag, PJ! The Black Hole bags are very durable in terms of the fabric's resistance to wear and tear, as well as in hot travel conditions.
