sturdy work pants
I'm 5'4'', 138lbs and at first these were way too long and had to be rolled up. I was going to get them hemmed, but then I put them in the dryer after washing and they shrunk to the perfect length. i havent taken them off since ive gotten them. i got them for work but ive just been wearing them out and about. so so cute and the little cinch things in the back is amazing ive never seen anything like it all pants need one.
For reference I wear a size 10 or 12 depending on brand/cut. I have a curvy and muscular body. These pants fit really bulky and didn't hit at my natural waist which caused both the unfortunate perma-wedgy feeling along with a slight muffin top. The back buckle was bulky and unflattering. I immediately returned these.
These pants are super nice and comfortable but I was really disappointed in the color. They're not even close to a true black, more of a dark denim color.
Hi Kate, thank you for submitting this review. We're sorry to hear about that fit! The waist on the Regular length and the Short length should have been the same. We'll reach out to you to see whether you may have received a defective pair.

Durable
These pants are comfortable to squat down in. I like the large back pockets and the waist cinch option in the back. The material is thick and durable unlike the women's bibs I purchased. I work in thorny brush and these pants protect my legs. I am 5'4" and definitely recommend buying the "short."
I work in the landscape industry and these are the best damn pants I have ever worn. I always get compliments about how cute my pants are and how they want a pair. I love them. They are comfortable, sturdy and comfortable. I love the color and have to get the black ones as well. Please keep making them and I will keep wearing them. Thanks Patagonia... Read More!
These are awesome, awesome pants. A bit heavy of summer but we spend a lot of time in the woods walking and doing some photography. I know I won't trash the knees or rip pants on brush or limbs. I'm 69 years old and I suspect these pants will be around long after I'm gone!
Despite selecting short, and the smallest Womens size, no option in Patagonias work line worked for me. Based on what I tried, its not clear that feedback from women was incorporated. Unfortunate as I was looking forward to using multiple work products.
Thank you for this sizing feedback, Jennifer. We're so sorry we couldn't find a size that would work for you! We truly value this feedback, and we want you to know extending sizing is a major priority for us. Our primary motivation for changes will be customer input and market demands in the industry. Great but prone to breaking
I love these pants, hands down the best pair I own. The buckle on the back os what sold it for me but it broke with in the week.
Thank you for the feedback, and we are so sorry to hear about the item issue. Please give us a call at 800-638-6464 and we could help you with a replacement.

Ill fitting
I have a curvier bottom half and the crotch was too short where it uncomfortably rubbed every time I took a step. The back had a cinch to make it tighter but it was just ill fitting overall. I had to return them.
Hello Lacey, we appreciate you taking the time to leave a review. We are sorry the pants did not work out. If we may be able to assist with garment measurements in the future, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Too Big
I ordered a pair of these, and also a pair of All Seasons hemp canvas pants in the same size. The All Seasons pants fit perfectly, while the Iron Forge pants were way too big. Had to return them, and instead ordered a second pair of All Seasons.
Sturdy work clothes are not my usual jam but several days of brush clearing on newly acquired rural property totally destroyed my comfy compressive hiking leggings so I knew it was time for something more rugged. Couldnt be more happy with my choice! They are tough on the outside but soft and comfortable to wear. I love the buckle on the back that cinches in the waist cuz Im not a belt person. Also love that they are available in short, which though not quite short enough in my case to be ideal, is short enough that I dont have to cut off 3 inches and hem them, thanks Patagonia! Can wholeheartedly recommend these pants and say that they are very reasonably priced.
Looked for quite a bit of time for canvas womens work pants. Liked them so much I went back and bought another pair
I work in gardening/farming and I wear these pants at work everyday. I love pretty much everything about them. Only thing that could improve them would be a water resistant coating ( but Im probably going to do a wash in one myself at some point) .
Highly recommend.
Well built and carefully thought out product. I was excited to find a pair of actual womens work pants that function. Using for welding and general house remodel and gardening.
Had to size up because they run kind of small.
Great quality and build!
I love these, the fit is relaxed but comfortable, the rise is high enough (I often find women's work pants to have too low of a rise) and the fabric is tough but soft. I was skeptical about the back pockets and the cinch and thought they might look weird but I think it looks good!
These are the best work pants I have found, and at a great price. But the sizing is quite odd. I am male, ~5'6", around 135lbs, and typically wear a 30" waist in jeans. I love the material and the back pocket design with the adjustment buckle in the center. Comfortable and tough
Bought these for outdoor job. They fit great, super durable, and are comfortable. I would buy them again. Wish they had cargo pockets but otherwise they're great!
I am 5'5", 141-144 lb, with about a 32 to 33.5 inch waist and 38 to 39 inch hips. The size 8 short fit me well. The 10 short was baggy. (In contrast, the all-seasons version of this pant came up to just below my ribcage and was way too short in the legs.)

I loved them when I pulled them out of the box. Theyre heavy duty and comfortable. They seemed like the perfect pant as they were petite and the length fit me too perfectly. Love these pants! I'm a farmer and these are the first work pants I've ever had that are actually comfortable. They've felt broken-in since I first got them and I wear them several times a week. ive been working on organic vegetable farms for about a decade and was so excited patagonia had put out a work pant, as they can be hard to find in my size (53, 115lbs). tried to wear them for a couple months and found the fit very agitating because of where they hit at the waist - they are too low and consistently pinched and rubbed against my hip... VERY HAPPY!
I love the quality and style of the pants! And despite a mix up on my part, I got way above expected customer service as well. Will keep shopping with Patagonia.
I have finally found some gardening pants that fit me right in the waist - not too high and not too low. I really like the tightening ability in the back. It seems like it has been a tough code to crack - that which allows athletic women to have pants that don't gap at the waist while simultaneously being so tight on your legs as to be completely impractical. Read More these pants without being uncomfortable with how they fit in some capacity. And they're cute to boot! I personally think the pockets are flattering and functional. I wouldn't even really classify it as a bummer, but the back cinch strap does rub ever so slightly and I've found it most comfortable to tuck in a layer in between the pants and my skin. Overall, I am super pleased with these pants and would definitely recommend to my other hard working ladies out there. I am 5'3", 135 pounds and ordered a small.
Comfortable and practical. I use for gardening or any dirty, heavy work. Great pockets for misc. tools and supplies. The short is just barely short enough not to drag. I am just under 5’4”.
I love the material and style. The back pockets are funky, but I find them deep enough to be useful. The cinched back makes the the fabric rough across the lower back, so it's uncomfortable if there isn't a fabric layer between the skin and pants. It also runs large, even with the back cinched.
I bought these pants as a result of my perpetual frustration with Carhartts. I am a captain and do schooner yard work when not sailing. I also wear them gardening/splitting wood.

Read Morevery comfortable fabric. I was not sure about the adjustable buckle on the back, but I think it is flattering. I don’t think anyone has seen my butt crack yet, which is the plan. The knees are thick and sturdy. The cut looks good, but I have to roll them up twice to get the leg shape I want. The test will come with time… They are twice as expensive as a similar product from Carhartt, so my hope is that they will last twice as long.
I am 5’0”, 115lbs and wearing a 2. Could size up for better range of motion but would lose the flattering fit.
My Forest kindergartners call them my “backwards” pants because of the design of the back pockets. I love these pants for that reason and every other.. I’d love to see them in the fabric weight of the overalls as well. The cut and fit are perfect, please don’t change them!
Need strong pants for barn work. These are great. I love your pants, but they are always too long. These are perfect. Run room. I am 5'3" with log legs, and the length is great. I size down from my usual 10 to an 8.
I love the pants – it’s made of tough fabric, made of renewable hemp, and I generally love Patagonia as a company for what it stands for. I’m 5’6 110 lbs and size 2 fits well, perhaps slightly snug around waist.

Read Moreyear, one tick came crawling up on my leg and bit, when I did not tuck in my socks, in November in Central NY, when I had my defense low. So this pants is good for me. I have two comments for the future designers of this pants.
One is the knee pad insert. I didn’t know what it was. I tried to find a pair of “knee pads” that fit into these pockets but I couldn’t find them at local sporting goods store. I checked Home Depot and Lowe’s but they didn’t have them either. The pads I found were too big to fit into these pockets. I had to email Patagonia and different reps sent me different answers, some pretty confused, but a couple of them had the right answers (I hope). The key is to look for “knee pad INSERT.” I just ordered on line (on ebay) Portwest S156. These inserts are apparently made for construction workers. I suggested Patagonia that this info should be listed on this page so the buyers won’t be confused. I can’t imagine I was the only one who was scratching my head.
Also …. About knife gussets. I love that feature, however, it’s placed in an awkward angle. I don’t know if this is just me, but I kneel down a lot for gardening and when I do, my sod knife/pruner holder tends to be pushed UP and OUT of the gusset, off to the ground. I often have to reinsert. I didn’t have this issue when I was using my normal jean pockets. So … it’s a good idea but perhaps more thoughts need to go into the ANGLE of the gussets? Am I the only one who have this problem?
Please keep making women’s work pants. I also would like one lighter pants for summer, with the same knee pockets. Also capris pants for summer housecleaning too.
I purchased these work pants a number of months ago and thus far have used them for gardening, trail maintenance, and scrubbing floors on hands and knees. Why not make a "short" actually SHORT? and why are men able to order the length they need yet similar needs of women not respected?
I am not Patagoni's target market, being an older broad. I was told by a representative that this new work-wear line runs "roomy" in order to do actual physical movements in the garments.
