I should have (and will) order a size 6. The 8 is too long for my height and the tummy just a bit too big. (Unfortunately and stupidly, I cut all the tags and washed them.) As a 120 pound 52 person, I couldnt tell from the size chart if size 8 would work. Definitely too long for me! I roll them up twice to wear them. I plan to give them to my daugh... Solid hiking pants
Love the material, and it was definitely water resistant. One star off for the side pocket that was not big enough for my iPhone 13 Pro, and ironing was needed after each wash
We appreciate your detailed and thoughtful feedback and we're sorry to hear about the lacking pocket size and fabric issue. We have an excellent [product care](https://www.patagonia.com/product-care.html) page but generally for these pants, we recommend turning the pants inside-out, machine wash warm with mild detergent, no bleach and no fabric softener then hang to air dry naturally. This should help with those wrinkles!
Let me tell you, as a 5,1 woman, I struggle to find outdoor wear that fits well for hiking, climbing, riding ATVs, etc. These are absolutely spot on with the description and were my favorite pants from my recent Utah trip. No sagging, not too tight, flexibility wasnt hindered, just perfect!
Am plus size-and THIS FITS!
In most brands I wear a 20, ordered a 22 Short in these pants. So please give these a try if youre interested! My husband has two pairs of these and the clean look and durability are at the usual high standard for this brand.
Excellent lightweight pants
These are my favorite pants to wear in hot weather. Comfortable, love the option to roll up, or leave down. They wrinkle easily but the wrinkles smooth out after a while. Fast drying fabric. These would be perfect but they stretch out a bit too much for my slender frame. Im five foot 1 and 100 pounds and a size 0 is a bit large. And the rise is a ... Read Morebit too low. Wish the drawstring was more substantial with a better option to pull them tighter at the waist. But otherwise these are great!
Great for backpacking
Bought these for a backpacking trip for Yosemites High Sierra. Spent 5 nights and 6 days in these and they performed flawlessly. I pack light so I wore these for hiking and sleeping. They were comfortable enough to curl up in in the sleeping back and had enough structure to for high endurance climbs during the day. I rinsed them out in a lake about... I really wanted to like these pants. I am petite and athletic and get excited when I can find hiking pants in short length. Great fit and very comfortable
I am barely 5'2" and weigh around 128 pounds. I bought size 6 that initially felt snug but has started to feel very comfortable. I think if I needed to, I'd be able to wear a thin layer under it on colder days. The elastic tie at the waist makes it easy to tighten a bit at the belt. I LOVE these pants.
Great lightweight pants!
I farm and fly fish so quick dry pants are a "must have" in my work and fun wardrobe. I ordered a 12 but had to return them for a 10S. (5'3", 133 lbs). They are a great lightweight, active style pant that will wear well for work and play. I plan to order in the green as well as the slate color. So glad I found these!
Love the pants, love eco-conscious packaging even more
The local store did not have my size, but the store staff who was helping me located a pair at another store and had them shipped to me directly. Service was superb! My favorite Patagonia pant
I own these pants from previous years in both the charcoal grey and the tan in size 6 short. Pretty straight through waist/hips/thighs. 5'4" 135 pounds. Read Morep a size. The size 8 short were too large overall (waist and hips) so I marked them true to size as I typically wear a 6. I may try them in the size 6 and see how they fit on the spectrum of my grey (perfect) and tan (a bit tight) Quandary pants. Same fabric features and design. The pants still have a side zip pocket that is discreet and secure but just a wee bit too small for a passport. You can get a PP in there if you work at it, harder to get the PP back out. Definitely too short for modern phones. Another inch of depth would take care of the problem though. These pants are tough, slightly stretchy and don't announce themselves as you walk with the typical nylon pant 'swish'. They will relax a little bit as you wear them so you may not want to buy them too loose fitting at first try-on. Internal waist draw cord is helpful. Thank you for making these in a short model. Lost a star for the side pocket, inconsistent sizing in my previous pants. I would still buy them, as I did, and recommend them. They are best overall adventure travel pant I have found.
Thanks for this great detailed and thoughtful feedback, Sharon! We haven't had a redesign of the Quandary Pant since Spring 2017, but please don't hesitate to reach out to our team for [help](https://help.patagonia.com/s/) in returning, ordering or exchanging. We'd love to make it as seamless and efficient as possible for you!
Only One Problem
The only problem with these pants is that the zipped thigh pocket is too small for my phone. It fits nicely in that pocket of the Quandary pants I bought several years ago. Not quite perfect...call it 4.75 stars
Thank you, thank you, thank you for a pair of technical pants that fit my short, round self. At 5'3" and size 18, it's really difficult to find hiking pants that fit my waist and hips but aren't too long. As you know, most hiking pants have features at the cuffs that you lose if you hem them to a shorter length. The 30" in... Read Moreseam option makes such a huge difference in the overall fit. The missing 1/4 star is because there's still a bit of a gap at the back of the waistband, but the drawstring mostly takes care of that.
Hi Patagonia followers! These pants are SOOOOO cute! They fit perfect and I love the "tie" adjustable waistband! For reference, I am 5'5"/120lb- long torso. I liked the old version much better
I have a pair of quandary pants which I bought a couple ofyears ago and still wear and love. I am not enjoying them very much, but have found no others that work better, yet. I wish you would not change your basic sizing of a garment, and also not change to lighter fabric and sacrifice the touch and drape of it. I will not order any more of these pants.

Women's Quandary pants, short
These are the perfect hiking/travel pants for me. I love the gray color that goes with everything and the way they roll up. Short isn’t short enough
Would have been a perfect pant if it was made in a petite or shorter length. I’m 5”2”, size 0, and came no where close to it being short enough for me. If I hemmed, I would have lost the style and hang. At least the customer service rep Chase who helped me with the return and exchange was awesome.
Thanks for your feedback! We've passed it along.
I was not sure what to expect, but these pants are super comfortable. I can no longer explore and do all the things shown in the ads. I can barely squeeze in my passport and the newer cell phones will not fit. And that is a potentially great passport pocket, with the zipper. I still recommend and wear these pants, but I inwardly sigh every time I'm fiddling with the passport or my phone, especially when flying. I am typically a size 6 pant, and these fit true to size in a 6. At 5 foot 4, 130 pounds I purchase the 'short'. I am pretty straight waist through thighs. Losing a star for the pocket issue.
Pockets aren't deep enough
I have 2 pairs of these pants and like them a lot. Only problem is that the zippered pockets aren't deep enough. I wore the pants on a trip to China. My passport barely fit in the leg pocket. My iPhone 8 was too tall to close the zipper on the leg pocket of the back pocket.

I just got back from five days of hiking in Marin County,CA,and these pants were my favorites -- light and super comfortable, with just enough stretch to move with me as I climbed, but they never lost their shape. I love the performance of the stretchy fabric but the combination of the casual fabric and zippered pockets means they aren't quite dressy enough to wear for work. I am 5'2" and have an athletic build (no waist,no fanny) and the short fit me like they were tailored for me; I have rather long legs for a petite woman. I will be buying at least one more pair of these!
Great for travel. Cargo pocket needs to be deeper
Purchased to wear for travel. Lightweight,a bit stretchy. Relax a bit when worn so don't start out with them too loose. Easy to fly in,and sleep in,due to the cut and fabric. I'm 5' 4" 135 pounds, kinda straight thru waist hips thighs (not curvy) and bought a size 6 short.
I have not worn Patagonia much and did not have an opportunity to try on these pants before purchase; however,I made every effort to communicate with Patagonia to determine what would be the best size. I bought these pants for hiking and am now in the middle of a three week hiking/trekking trip in Europe. The light weight is great in the heat and they also dry quickly when they get wet. Read Morell-up button feature on the leg is nice, too, though it is not quite as convenient as the kind of pants that have elastic cinch at the hem to make a capri,or that zip off to make shorts. With the roll-up-button,there is only one button on one side of each leg,so the pant can droop and sag down on one part of the leg --- this wasn't an issue for me as I didn't mind it,but if you want a stable roll up or the ability to convert to shorts, this could be an issue. Overall am very pleased with this pant. I used a single pair about 3 days in a row (hiking in amazon rainforest) when laundry services were scarce and they did not seem to retain much odor or wetness. I bought pant mainly because it was one of only a couple SHORT hem lengths available in patagonia styles -- wish there were more options in the SHORT length - I'm 5'5" 145lb and bought 10SHORT.
