I bought a pair a few months ago, and almost immediately bought three more. These pants are very comfortable and ballistic tough. Freedom of movement without being baggy.
I purchased the 11-inch shorts this summer; they wore and felt fantastic. I wanted a similar product for the winter, but in pants. If they produce a third color, I would buy another pair.
Patagonia's hemp pants are by far the highest quality pants I've ever owned. Immediate worn-in comfort level, and they last! I have 4 pairs in different colors and style that I've acquired over the last 3 years, my first set is barely fraying on the back of the heels after 3 years.
Second pair of Hemp 5-pockets. First pair fit loose which is good for wearing thermals underneath. These are way loose and are supposed to be the same size. Good thing I like belts!
Great looking pants that are comfortable. They are a little long, but I don't mind. It's nice having the extra length when walking or hiking through thick vegetation.
Great fit and finish, per usual. These are robust pants built for the long haul. Ever since YC donated his stake I’m only buying Patagonia. What an example!
These pants are everything I wanted them to be. Very durable and beefy, but also surprisingly soft and comfortable. Love em'. Just know that the leg lengths are not even close to being accurate. They are really long. I've never worn anything but 34" or 36" length, but 32" is the length that fits with these pants.
I love the feel and weight of the hemp canvas. I like the cutof the Iron forge pants. I wish they were offered in a 35 waist as the 36 is just too large. It bunches up when I tighten my belt. I am a blacksmith and I will be wearing these pants in the forge. Given that, I'm concerned about the content of polyester in that it may melt and stick ... Read Moreto my skin, if something hot comes in contact with the cloth. This is a serious issue. Patagonia will hear from me if the pants melt and stick to my skin. Mr Chuinard (incorect spelling, sorry) the founder of "Patagonia" was a blacksmith. I'm sure he would understand my concerns.
These are pretty much tougher jeans. I've been wearing them a ton since I bought them and the fabric feels about as tough as ballistic nylon but they're WAY softer than thick nylon. I'm a big fan!
I got a pair of the double knee work pants in same inseam and waist size and the 5 pocket pair are about 2 inches longer on the inseam and 2 inches wider on the waist. They are way too big for me but I unfortunately wore them and cant return them, so try them on before you wear them to work. My double knee pair was a perfect fit.

Good work pants
I got a 32 in seam seemed a bit longer then my 32 jeans where a bit long nothing major only had them for a little bit seem to hold up good and they are the most comfortable pants Ive worn
These hemp pants are bomb-proof. I wear them for every outdoor chore imaginable, 4 seasons, rain, snow, hot whatever. They are comfortable and indestructible. I've worn through every other pant but not these. Love 'em!
This is a typical patagonia product - well thought out, expertly crafted of high quality materials and, as always, aesthetically pleasing.
I typically wear a 35" waist and 34" inseam. I purchased the 36" regular size and they are almost too loose in the waist. The length is generou. Next time I may try the 34".
My only suggest... Read Moreion is for another tool pocket on the left side for my reading glasses.
Thank you Patagonia!
Cheers!
Comfortable fabric, but order a size smaller. I tape exactly at a 38" waist, slightly larger after a big meal. All my other 38 pants fit kinda tight. These only stay up with a belt on and when the belt is tight enough, they are all bunched up and gathered. Not flattering or comfortable
Hi Brad! Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. We're really sorry to hear how large the pants ran. Feedback like this is crucial to improving products for future seasons. Great alternative to blue jeans
I now have two pair of these pants, the first purchased about 2 years ago. Initially the first pair was quite stiff, but they have loosened up nicely and are very comfortable. The second pair seemed less stiff from the start. They fit well, and seem to be quite durable. I wear them pretty much daily in the cooler seasons (Fall-Spring).
I love the great blend of hemp and cotton. The are great for just about anything. Traveling, out and about, sturdy yet flexible in the crotch. Nice relaxed fit. Absolutely worth the price. And love supporting Patagonias sustainable stewardship. If thinking of sizing up or down, size down in these.
I love this pair of pants. The weight, quality, and fit are perfect. They are so comfortable I keep wearing them everyday. We need more colors I would order every one.
I bought these to replace a well used pair of heavy cotton workpants by another company. The material has a much softer and supple feel than cotton, and is comfortable under a broad range of temperatures despite the thick fabric. After two seasons of crashing through brush, kneeling on hard ground, and getting dirty, the pants have held up great. H... Read Moreighly recommended for anyone who works in the woods for a living.
Bought these because I wanted a durable pair of pants that were nice enough to be worn for everyday use, and I got exactly that. Comfortable, yet strong material. I purchased the 32 1/2 inch length with a 36 inch waist, same size I have for relaxed fit Levis. Fits perfectly
These are great pants. The material is heavyweight but soft and the slight stretch makes them very comfortable. I typically wear pants with a 32-33" inseam so I originally opted for the long inseam option so I could have a little extra to hang over boots. However the inseams on these pants run long, I think due to the fit. I returned the long ... Read Moreones and got the regular inseam which claims to be 32", these fit more like a 34". Overall I am happy with them and I would recommend them to anyone looking for some comfortable and durable pants.
I wanted to buy several pairs of these in multiple colors. Trying to buy more sustainable and ethical clothes. Hemp is a bonus.
I've never worn hemp pants (only shorts).
I have had a couple of different sizes in. Its like they were made in two different factories with different patters. I normally wear a regular in 34 in street jeans. The ... Read More34 in these was huge. They felt like a 35 at least. If a dude had a big booty, they might work, but they were falling off me. Oddly they seemed to relax after washing (not get tighter). Maybe this was the hemp relaxing. The 33 fit in the butt and legs, but the waist was tight. Not only did it fit tightly but it looked to others like it fit tightly.
I guess I'm going to give up on these. The 33 was too tight, the 34 was way too big. Other than that, they look like good pants.
Hi Mr. C, we're very sorry to hear about the trouble with sizing and fit. Please feel free to begin a [return](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html) at any time.
The good first: I'm normally a 37 waist, but the 36 of these fit fine. They're roomy for working outside and the ash is a pretty good color. I like the gusset in the crotch. Guessing they'll last a long time.
The less good: The front pockets are genuinely weird. They've sewn some stitches right through the pocket on both sides ... Read Moreof mine and cut down the opening. If you have big hands like me and carry a sizable clasp knife, it's tough to get your hand in the pocket. I had to clip off those stitches on the one side - I couldn't get the opening side of my knife to sit tight against the seam like is safe. The big tool pocket on the thigh is sort of odd - it looks bigger than it really is, so it ends up appearing awkward but not being that handy. If you put your phone in it, you end up sitting on it. And alas, it has no coin pocket, which I'm long used for keys.
One other thing to be aware of is these seem to soak up water quickly. If you're working outside in the rain, you'll know it. Bet they're comfy for working in the warmer months though.
Feature request: Wish they came in black like the double-knee ones.
Runs large and baggy, some weird things about them
Others have said it, but these are large. I have ordered a 34 in other Patagonia pants and had to squeeze into them and size up to a 36. These fit easily around my waist and are very baggy all the way down. The most notable thing for me is how long they are. They are bunched on my shoes even when rolled once or twice. I am 6-2 and usually get 32 in... Read Moreseams which end around the top of my foot. These would go under my heels if I unrolled them. I measured the inseam because it felt so long and sure enough, it is 32 inches! I think the distance from the waist to where the inseam starts is longer than on a low-rise or fashion-first garment. I chatted to customer service and they said the hemp should shrink some, so we will see!
The other weird thing is the reinforced pocket tab for clip-on tools. Others have also mentioned this. From the outside it looks perfect for clipping a pocket knife where the knife is in the pocket and the clip is on the outside, but in reality, the pocket is sewn shut where you would want to put the knife, and it is impossible to make it work without the knife being in the middle of the pocket (not out of the way at the side). I have taken to using the 5th pocket for my knife but its not what I would prefer, and I cant figure out why its designed and sewn this way. Also, the product description says there are two carpenter pockets, but there is only one and they are 5, not 6, pocket pants.
I am keeping them to see if I can adjust to the several eccentricities of these pants and because the fabric is very comfortable and heavy which is what I am looking for. They are sturdily made, as always.
The hemp blend has a broke in feel the first time I put them on. I really enjoy these for weekend wear; relaxing to hanging drywall. These are my go to weekend pants.
Very comfortable and broken in on first wear. I like the durability of the fabric with a softer feel than other work pants. The relaxed fit provides great range of motion. The waist runs true to size and the length runs long. I started with the long version at 34" inseam and it was too long so switched to the regular at 32".
Look good and feel good to the skin. They are great in colder weather being made out of heavy material.
They could improve the front pockets to better hold a pocket knife with a clip
I admit that I normally wear a 46" waist so the fact that these run large works out great for me. I one complaint is that the blue color no longer seems available (sigh). I did buy another pair in another color because I liked the pants so much and also a blue one in the double knees-which is a tighter fit for me- but wish they would bring bac... Read Morek the blue color in the regulars.
The front pockets have this little triangular piece in the bottom corner that is advertised to hold clip on tools. I thought this would be great for my pocket knife. It isn't. The knife can't sit down in the pocket with the clip over this fabric because that region is sewn closed. The result is that my knife has to sit higher and further ... Read Morein towards the middle of the pocket, to the point that I can hardly get my hand in my pocket. Sounds like a minor thing but not being able to put your hands in your pockets is pretty annoying, especially because I thought these pants were designed to hold a clip on knife. Overall I'm disappointed I bought them.
We're sorry the design of this pocket is turning out to be frustrating for you! Thank you for this feedback, John. We want you to be happy with everything you get from us, so we will reach out to you about options.

Solid
Thick n warm. It won't breath well enough for higher temps but it's a great winter pant.
Some of my favorite work type pants. Really like the feel of the fabric. Tough and smooth.
Caution the ones I got were a full size too large and had to return them for smaller waist.
I'm 5'9" and got a regular inseam. I had to do three large cuffs on the pants to get them to a reasonable length. They run very long. Otherwise they are excellent quality and exactly what you are hoping for.
Good job on this updated version. They're not quite as loose fitting as the original 5 pocket Iron Forge hemp pants. The addition of elastane in the fabric is definitely a plus. It's nice to have a little added stretch. Overall, I like the fact that they're not quite as loose but maybe even more comfortable because of the stretch. Th...
