I read in the features of these shorts that they have a Gusseted Crotch, which I was stoked about. It's hard to find women's shorts that don't have a seam right in the middle of the crotch.
I ordered 2 pairs because I was so excited.
Unfortunately, these shorts aren't gusseted in any way, shape, or form.
Super bummed, returned t... Read Morehem and payed a shipping penalty because the description was wrong. Patagonia- please gusset your shorts like you advertise that you do.
I'd upload a picture of the seam but there is no place to upload.
These shorts are a nice fit and length and work well for casual outings. I think they will last a lifetime. I hope to see more Patagonia products made with natural fibers like hemp, cotton, wool, and cashmere.
These size 10 x 5 shorts are too big for my size 10 frame and too short. I am an active Older woman, Please make some canvas cotton women's shorts that are 7- 8 Inches long.

True to actual measurements
I have a 31 inch waist and 42 inch hips and these fit perfectly! I like the "V" shaped stitching in the back to account most for the large gap that normally appears when you have a thinner waist to hips. I've loved these shorts for about a year now and are my go-tos for summer hikes, yard work , and living. Patagonia size "10&qu... Read Moreot; is smaller than other brands but I find they are true to the measurements listed. They are flattering but do ride up a bit in the back if you have a larger butt.
I was looking cotton shorts with a flat seam gusset, and pockets for phone, wallet, and sunglasses. I walk 5-10 miles/day in a city where it is not uncommon for purses and knapsacks to be grabbed. A Canadian company makes shorts with a great gusset and ample pockets, but the nylon material is uncomfortable. An American company makes a pair of jeans... Read More with a generous diamond gusset, but no shorts. Patagonia shorts are very comfortable and they have good pockets for city walking. There must be a market for jeans, shorts, pants, PJs without a hard seam in the middle of the crotch.
I wanted durable, eco-friendly shorts for summer and hoped these would fit the bill. Unfortunately they fit terribly. Despite the fact that I have a 27"-28" waist and 37" hips, which according to the size chart is a size 4, they somehow managed to be too tight around the waist in front while leaving a giant gap in the waistband at th... Thank you for the review, Rebekah. Our apologies for the confusion with the size chart on our website. The size chart on the website offers a general range of body measurements that should work within a given size, but it will not provide garment measurements. The chart for these shorts shows a 27.5" waist and 37" hip working for a size 4, if your waist measures up to 28" a size 6 could work better. If you'd like garment measurements in the future, please reach out to our customer service team. The front rise measurement will have a big impact on how these sit on the body. We've taken note of your thoughts and have shared them with our design team for future consideration. Great shorts
There is not a category above for walking!
These shorts are very well made. They were a perfect fit, except for the legs. I had planned to use these for walking, but the legs were to flappy. I walk at a rapid pace, and every time my arms swing my thumb catches the flap of the extra material, and bruises my thumb. I need shorts with tighter fitting... Read More legs. Very disappointed, because as I said, these are very well made, and would have served me well if the legs had been tighter.
Size up one. These are really cute shorts, durable-feeling fabric. I had to return, given the sizing was just too snug for me. I even sized up one from what I normally wear, and this was just too tight.
We appreciate your feedback on the fit, sizing and fabric. We're sorry this purchase was disappointing. Thank you for taking the time to provide a review for us, Natalie!

Durable and Cute
The canvas is durable without feeling stiff, and the length shows just enough leg. Not too short but still sexy. For reference Im 5 foot 9 and weight 160 lbs, ordered a size 10. I probably could size down to an 8 but I prefer a slightly looser fit.
I love these! I was a little worried about the waist being too tight after reading some other reviews, and they definitely sit above the hip bone and get more narrow in the waist, but they fit perfectly!! I love them!! Im hoping to see more colors of these in the future! Highly recommend.
I had a pair of these shorts years ago & wore them till the fell apart. I was happy to see them again & ordered them. Unfortunately they were ill fitting. They were not the same cut I remember. I would not recommend these shorts.
We're sorry to hear that these didn't fit correctly, Janet. We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback with us, and will pass the word along to the rest of the team. Brutally Unflattering
I work on my farm in the Double Knee Hemp Pants. I wear a size 8, but purchased size 10 in the pants to have plenty of room for bending, squatting, chores, etc. So I ordered this short in a size larger (size 10) as well and it is SO SMALL. Fits like a size 2! The short is also so unnecessarily high-waisted. The 5" thigh is actually okay around... Read More my ski/hiker legs, but everything above that is just too much . A touch of give/stretch would help so much even with the right cut. Of course, the fabric, construction, and workmanship is all-time Patagonia--it's a very high end short that I'm sure would last a long time even with a lot of wear and wash. I just wish their designers would get with the times a bit and fit pants to more flatter a woman's body (even when I'm just out checking irrigation in my fields).
We appreciate your feedback, Ashley. We'll share your thoughts on fit with our product team. You're welcome to begin a return on [this page](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html).

bought womans because mens was not offered
So far, so good. I'll wear it for casual until it's gets stained or ratty then convert over to work. Im a carpenter but I didn't see an all hemp works shorts. Let me know if I'm wrong or when you do get them. I have several pants and they hold up well.
I really want to like these shorts. The waist is way too high. I like a mid rise waist. I normally wear a 4 in Patagonia shorts but I had to get a 6 and they're still too tight on the waist. I love all the workwear I bought previously and would love to see new color selections. Brown and green is great but my work wardrobe needs a little flair... Read More.

Hemp Canvas Shorts
Patagonia's Hemp Canvas Shorts are well made and constructed to last a life-time. There is no stretch, so the material is a little stiff. I really like these shorts. Pockets are sized to really make them useful. Fit is a little large. Might be nice if they had the same button Adjustor tabs as the long pant version.
I returned these. I have a pair an earlier version of your women's all season hemp work shorts that I love and wear all the time. They're the same size I ordered this time but I think the inseam was 8". I much prefer the longer version. If I want them shorter, I roll them up. If I want more protection, they stay down. In addition, th... Read Moree shorts I returned fit snugger and are not as comfortable to work in. Please bring back the earlier length and fit. Best work shorts I've ever owned.
I work in Construction with my hubs and I wear these everyday. They are sturdy and have held up so far to the rough treatment I put them through. I will buy more in the future.
A well built all around utility shorts.
Super comfortable and tuff. Loads of pockets. I like the color and the high waisted fit! I definitely recommend.
I love these shorts, the fabric is super comfortable to wear for long times, but is also super tough. It definitely won't rip! I cuffed the legs a bit to make them shorter and it makes them perfect for me.
This is an excellent product for men. The 5" inseam was the big draw. Normally wear 36-38" waist shorts. This size 18 fit perfectly. The feel is excellent, and the material will hold up. Would purchase several move if they were in stock.
These are the best shorts I've had in years. Love the fit and the pockets. I have big hips and thighs and these shorts are plenty roomy. As others have commented, the fabric is kind of thick but they still work for me - in the midst of a humid Mississippi summer.
I really like these shorts as I've been looking for shorts that are not "quick dry" and made of synthetic fabric. I miss my old cotton shorts made for camping and hiking and had "substance". These fit the bill. They are lightweight enough for summer but seem like they will wear well.
The sizing is a bit off for me as I ha... Read Moreve a 31" waist and 37" hip so a size 10 was too big in the waist. I returned them for a size 8 which are close to perfect in the waist but a tad tight in the seat, so they ride up slightly. So while not perfect, they're the best thing out there that I've found thus far.
Normally I order a size 6 or 8 depending what reviewers write. Most reviewers suggested ordering up because of the waist fit which I did.
Very comfortable! Love these shorts!
I am deeply in love with the 2 pairs of regenerative stand up shorts I have (pockets for days!) and which routinely get comments and appreciations around town. But I was looking for something that had normal back pockets and slimmer line to wear to work (with farmers). These are a good, sturdy middle ground between the stand-ups and the stretch all... Read More-wear shorts (which I also like). A tad longer than I might choose, but I like the sturdy fabric, higher rise and good pockets, and I think the length is probably more appropriate for work, anyway. I am really irked by pants that are too tight around the waist when you sit down (pretty straight-bodied, here - take your waist-nips elsewhere!); these passed the test. Good addition to the summer line-up! Keep up the fab workwear.
I wear a size 10 shorts in the Patagonia 5" W Quandary Shorts comfortably, but the waistband on the size 10 of these was too tight for me. Also the thick fabric was weird for summer. Returned this one.
I am 53 and these shorts were unfortunately too long for my short legs, but the fit at the waist was perfect. I bought these shorts for more of a casual wear since I cannot find any shorts that will accommodate my size. I did measure out what the shorts would be like on myself, but they seemed to be longer than expected. When I rolled them up they ... Read Moreseemed to be a better length, but I still was not in love with the rolled up look. I think taller people would benefit from these shorts. Another point I wanted to make was these shorts were more orange-like than brown. The color was not as flattering as pictured. However, there were very deep pockets which is a plus. Overall, not very impressed but theres pros and cons of the shorts. I chose to return. :(
These are a lighter weight fabric than previous hemp cloth Ive known. Fit is good. No thigh creep when walking. Some weird creep in the rear that Ive never had on other shorts, but Im not going to worry about that since they are otherwise comfy and have great pockets. Looking forward to seeing how the fabric changes over time.
I was so excited to try these because I have a smaller waist and bigger quads. I bought 2 different colors in hopes I was going to love these. I ordered 2x5" as labeled on site. Super Shorts
Fit great. Fabric is nice and seems like it will hold up for work in the garden.
Very comfortable.
Ive just spent my first weekend in these shorts and I can tell that they will be in constant rotation this spring and summer. The fit is nice with plenty of room for my hips and thighs. Love the deep pockets. Fabric is soft yet feels sturdy, so it seems like they will last a good long while.
