Super comfy and light
I usually wear small size for shorts or pants, but it runs a bit large. It looks ok but x-small looks much better for me. Beside that, I love blue color and fabric. It is just awesome and love it. I am a big Patagonia's fan and can't wear any other brands. I am so happy for my shorts.
I'm a long-time Patagonia fan. I like the shorts a lot. . .the fit, color, comfort. I would like them even a little longer and with a v cut up the side for even a little more movement. I loved the old baggies long that are no longer made.

Thanks for the review, Sue! We have a few new trail running shorts you might be interested in. They do have a shorter inseam, but they're still worth checking out. One of those is the [Women's Trailfarer Shorts - 4½"](https://www.patagonia.com/product/womens-trailfarer-shorts-4-half-inch/57535.html?dwvar_57535_color=FRTL&cgid=sport-trail-running-womens-shorts). While it has a shorter inseam, they have a greater range of motion due to the larger leg opening; these would be most similar to a pair of Baggies. We also have the Women's Multi Trails Shorts - 5½", if you'd like something a little less streamlined. If you're okay with something not trail run specific, you could also check out the Women's Tyrolean Bike Shorts - 9½".
Way less "features" than mens version
They get protective length and three huge zippered pockets. We get "cute" length and one micro zippered pocket. When a credit care-sized phone is invented, this womens micro pocket will be so useful. It's 2023, why is "womens" still code for "lame"?

Hi Ann! Thank you for writing us a review. We're really sorry to hear about the disapointment with the shorts. Versatile Short - great length option!
This is a super short for hiking/running. At 50+yo - I admittedly welcome the longer inseam - and it's not too long at all. No chafe, no bunching. The liner is the right size for the shorts, and plenty of room to wear undies if you prefer to double up. These are my go-to athletic shorts now. I usually wear Lulu to work out and walk in, but being over 30 now, I'd like a little more coverage and these fit the bill! Super Lightweight, not too short, and flowy to keep you cool, they are just perfect for the hot summers here. The 6 in length is great for me so I can go for a walk in a forest pres... Read Moreerve and then go run an errand without feeling awkward b/c my shorts are too short. Im between a L and XL, (14), usually and as with most running shorts, I went with the XL and they were perfect fit. Did I mention they are super light?! So they are always part of my hiking/backpacking regime. I couldn't go without them. Thanks patagonia!!!
These are very comfortable! I wear them for beach volleyball, Pickleball and hiking. They are great for anytime! I am not a huge fan of the built in liner though.

We appreciate your review, Angela! You might like our [Women's Tech Shorts](https://www.patagonia.com/product/womens-tech-fishing-shorts-5-inch/82025.html) which are also lightweight, quick-drying and have a 5" inseam without a built-in liner.
Ok shorts- would be great with some changes
I was very excited for these shorts. I had read in other reviews that some thought the liner was too tight and they were a bit too low rise, but I took a chance. After wearing them on a few walks, I have to agree with those other reviews. The shorts have a liner that is a bit too tight (I would expect them to be a bit looser with them being loose s... Read Morehorts) and they are very low rise. I tend only to wear them when I walk because I don't love the feeling of the waistband going into my lower abdomen when I sit down. If they were higher rise this would not be a problem (like other shorts). They do have a nice little pocket on the back that can fit a license and/or key. A good improvement would be a side pocket. The fabric is nice, however, they do ride up my inner thighs when walking- I was hoping they wouldn't do this because they do have a 6-inch inseam. I very much debated whether to return them, but they are still worth keeping.

Good Lightweight Shorts
I was looking to replace some similar old Lucy shorts and these come as close as I have been able to find. Comfortable and long enough. They do sit a bit low on the waist but they stay in place. Im not a hi-rise short woman, but maybe they could sit a smidge higher. Maybe make a few more colors and I would buy again.
Nine trails running shorts
The waist was too low for me. I prefer a more normal waistline.

I bought 2 pairs of these shorts for my daily 4 mile walks and I was not expecting them to have a liner since I didnt see it listed in the specs or the pictures on the website. I decided to give them a try anyways and have to say that I prefer shorts without liners. These run a bit small and I find I have to keep them pretty low on my hips to keep ... Surprisingly low rise
The liner seems to not have enough height which pulls the whole short down on me. Perhaps just my body type. I even ordered one size larger than usual because I wanted them to be loose.

wow, I love these
I got the 6" inseam and will buy multiple others! I'm loving them--The longer inseam is nice to help with the chub rub for the long hikes/walks yet still looks very flattering. I would say these run true to size for a typical "running" short (which, for me at least, that means the run slightly small). I don't use them for r... Read Moreunning (b/c I don't run), but I love them for a ultra-light weight hiking short!
Comfortable enough with a nice liner
These shorts are great for what they are, though my biggest criticism is that they could stand to have a higher rise. They sit at quite an awkward point of my hips and don't always feel secure. The material is comfy though I find the fabric rides up on my inner thighs a lot, so these wouldn't be a great short for me on a long run due to i... Read Morenevitable chafing.
Wanted to love them
Great material. Love the length. Didnt love the fit. Thought it was cut a little too straight to fit many female body types. I did exchange for the larger size and the fit was still just off and not at all flattering.

Perfect running shorts
I have searched for many years for the perfect running shorts that flex with me, have a comfortable waistband that stays put, and not to mention look great because they are the perfect length for me, 6-inch. Comfortable material and nice length but awkward lining
I like that these shorts "flow" and aren't too tight. I ordered the 6 inch inseam and like the extra coverage. Also, if I am not supposed to wear undergarments, are these shorts ineligible for Worn Wear? Besides the awkward liner, I like the shorts and will wear them often (with undergarments).
Response from PatagoniaFebruary 3, 2022
Hey Sophia, thanks for the review. The liner of these shorts is meant to keep them in place during high output activities, in particular running. We would still recommend that you wear undergarments while using the shorts. If you used them without, then we would say they are not eligible for Worn Wear as with any "next to skin" gear. We hope this helps to answer your questions! We're glad to hear they're working for you.
Super cute and comfy running shorts. Not to long not too short
Running shorts that are super comfy and look good too. I wear a size 4 typically (115 lbs) and ordered a small and xs. The small looked sloppy. I was so happy with these shorts, I bought another pair! I run and sometimes go for short bike rides in them.
Super comfortable and attractive
These shorts are very comfortable. I normally do not like a liner in a pair of shorts, but these shorts have the most comfortable liner. The 6" length is perfect, it is not too long or too short for my 5'3" height. The waist band is also comfy. Recommend for casual wear, walking, running, hiking.
They are okay, but if you factor into the equation price and the fact that the built in lining is too small for the shorts (think of the feet of a llama relative) then the shorts become less than okay.

Love these shorts, purchased every color available in my size! I am close to 5'9, 148, athletic build. Love these. Im normally a M in bottoms because of a big booty on a small frame but I have two pairs of these in S that fit well, the M would have been to big in the waist band. I bought a pair of these in the spring and loved them so much that I ordered a second pair mid-summer. They are super lightweight and comfortable. Waist band problems
I loved the old waist band on the nine trails shorts. However, this new waist band is terrible. It rolls down when you sit. The old flat style never did this. I am constantly adjusting. Why did you ruin a good thing?

Love the length, don't like the low rise
I like longer length shorts for physical activity. So I was excited to try this pair of shorts for casual wear and hiking. I loved the length. But I have a long torso and these ended up being too low rise for my comfort. I'm bummed because otherwise it seems great.

Great shorts for running.
These shorts are great for running. Fabric is silky and soft, and feels great on skin. Plus, it is stretchable, so it allows good range of motion. I took one star off, because the pocket is kind of small. I wish the pocket big enough to accommodate my cell phone. Overall, these are great shorts. I bought 2 pairs. Thanks!
Very stoked - all round weekend shorts
These shorts are absolutely perfect for warmer weather, working around the house (or not), long walks, dip in the ocean, and great for travel. Lower rise than I like
The length and cut of the legs of these are great to prevent thigh chafing. I dont have to awkwardly pull bunched fabric from between my legs mid stride. Read More liners are SO tight so I had to make slits in them, and in one of the pairs I cut the liner out entirely. These are well-made, but just not the right fit for my body.
Lightweight and comfy
I got two sizes to try out, a large and X-large. The large is true to size but I'm keeping the X-large for the relaxed looser fit. Taken both out on hiking trips and would recommend to anyone. The classic Navy and Camp green are also pretty accurate to the picture.
The longer shorts are amazing!!
Patagonia, please keep making running shorts in the longer length!! I haven't tested them out on a run yet (so not sure if I will face thigh chafe or not), but so far they are great for walking around and lounging. I agree with the fellow reviewers that it would be nice if there was a higher waisted option.
Nice but too snug in the butt for me
Lets just say i dont have a flat butt lol. But its also not huge! The waist is loose, but these ride up a bit in the rear so not the best fit. Gotta keep adjusting from time to time. I do like that they are a bit longer. Just wish the liner stayed put and there as a little more height in the rise/room in the rear.

Great Length for Bigger Thighs
I have muscular thighs and almost every running short I try rides up during a run or long walk. Wish they were higher-waisted
As someone with pretty muscular thighs, it can be tricky to find running shorts that are long enough so that I can avoid inner thigh chaffing. My favorite shorts
I love the fit, length, and weight of these shorts. They are incredibly lightweight yet sturdy. The back zip pocket is a great feature, too. They are so comfortable I wear them around town and at home as soon as they come out of the wash. Please bring more in stock, Patagonia. One pair is just not enough.
Excellent running shorts
These are great running shorts! I am an avid runner...but at 44 years old, I like some coverage. I appreciate the length of these shorts, and love that they are lightweight, flattering, and cute. An Extra 2" Makes a BIG Difference
I've loved the feel of the nine trails shorts but struggled with them riding up while I ran, causing me to do the awkward mid stride adjustment frequently. So close, but a few caveats
I was looking for shorts with a longer inseam to help with chafing and provide coverage. In length, these are a dream. 6 inches covers a lot without feeling dowdy. Read Moreo feel really weird bumping against your rear end, because that item is going to hang so low. I tried a pill fob on one run and a Subaru key on another and the back pocket simply doesn't function like it should. The other issue: the waist is loose and needs to be cinched up with the drawstring. I am most definitely a medium during quarantine (and slowly ballooning), yet these felt so loose in the waist that I had to cinch up and tie off the drawstring, which is fine until you need to take a quick pit stop. I would also like to see one small side pocket to hold a GU or key.
