Favorite shorts
I have worn these for decades. I have baggies pants and the jacket as well. I started with Patagonia in 1972. Love the products and the ethos.
OK! Along with the original “stand-up” shorts, Baggies are the “go-to” apparel! Great for around the house, out-and about, impromptu dip in a creek, and travel! Fun colors! Comfy! Great!
This is my first pair of Baggies. I wasn't sure if the Longs were what I would like but I find them to be perfect for hiking, walking, general wearing and (when I get a chance) likely swimming.

Great product
Own several pairs of these shorts, highly recommend
Ive been buying these shorts for 15+ years. Ive never worn a pair out. They are comfortable, regardless of what Im doing and look good enough to go anywhere you would wear shorts. If Patagonia increased the width of the elastic waistband a bit, I think that might provide just enough additional elasticity around the waist to prevent sliding shorts. The current waistband appears to be about 1/2-inch wide.

It. Has. A. Liner.
The product description definitely says it has a mesh liner, but Patagonia should really include a picture with the liner prominently displayed. I don't know how this is supposed to be comfortable unless you're not wearing underwear, unless that's the point.

Desert Solace
In the ultra-summer heat of a SoCal desert climate, I exercise at dawn, wearing long baggies and my Ukraine T-shirt. A perfect way to start the day, unless the coyotes get in my way.
I have worn the 7" Baggies for nearly 10 years and love them. However, the latest iteration of the short runs a full size larger than its predecessors. All Day Wear
I don't have to think about changing through my day of swimming, walks, grabbing a coffee, bike ride, etc.
I am a fan of Patagonia's products and the company but I have no clue what the company was thinking when they changed the Baggies to whatever they are supposed to be now?
First, why add the liners? It limits the all-around functionality of these shorts. I guess if you want to wear swimming and want a liner, it makes sense. With the liner, fo... Read Morerget about wearing baggies mountain biking, running, hiking, etc. The liner is just annoying and a "bug," not a "feature." Seriously why the liner? It makes ZERO sense.
Second, the material has taken a step back. The previous versions of Baggies were softer and offered more "stretch." The new version of Baggies are "course" and not stretchy. It makes the shorts less comfortable but I guess dry quicker (not worth the tradeoff).
To wrap up, I used to wear Baggies ~3 days a week in the summer and they were perfect for whatever I was going to do. Even though I cut the liner out of my new Baggies, now I just decide to go with other shorts that are more comfortable for me and adaptable to what is my day brings. .....Overall, a big fail by Patagonia designers.

Super versatile short. Pack for every adventure
Been using this short for the last 8 years. I pack it in hydration pack mountain biking for enroute swim and comfortable post ride wear. Great for paddle boarding comfortable enough for short hikes and great for pool swimming. Pocket layout is great for a casual short. Super simple design easy to change into.
In the hot desert summers I exercise at dawn with my Baggies Longs and a light T-shirt. Recently I ordered two new Baggies Longs, one in black, the other in greenish. While these are great swim trunks, they're also marketed as all around fun shorts. This would be true if they didn't have a mandatory liner that made your boxers ride up and out, every time you didn't want to go commando, or weren't planning on swimming.

This wouldn't be as funny if the solution didn't also involve streamlining/reducing materials, a core design tenet of Patagonia's development team, and overall brand philosophy.
The Baggies are one of Patagonia's flagship products, and a consistent summer revenue driver. I can think of nothing more obvious than introducing a non liner version of these shorts for fans who don't want to go commando every time they wear them.

I recently purchased baggies shorts but the length is 9 inches rather than 7. I do have multiple pairs of the baggies long 7 inches and I really lke them The 9 inches are better for me as they have bigger side pockets and a snap closure rear pocket.
I also have recently purchased nine trail running shorts 8 inches. These shorts have zipper side po... Read Moreckets and rear pocket. I ride a Catrike Dumont recumbent. If I ride that trike with anything in side pockets that dont close the contents of the pockets will fall out. I take that into account and carry nothing in those pockets. With the zippered side pockets the worry is gone. My keys are safe.
If the baggies long 9 inches had zippered pockets that would be fantastic. Large secure side pockets would be great. I am hoping to see that refinement next year.
The shorts fit great, but the colors are completely different online as compared to in person. Both the gray and blue shorts are much lighter in person.
Hi Evan, we're sorry to hear that the colors didn't come through correctly on our site with your Baggies. We'd be happy to accomodate a [return or exchange](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html) whenever you're ready.

Nice enough
I ordered a pair of the Baggies longs - 7" inseam. It seemed more like a swimsuit than a pair of shorts - inner mesh and drawstring, but no belt loops. They fit okay until I put stuff in the pockets, like my wallet and cell phone, and I had to keep hitching them up, which was annoying; so I exchanged them for a pair of Quandary shorts, which a... Hi hi hi! Love the baggies shorts, fit, look and lengths. Would be amazing if you could be more inclusive and make a 3XL in these shorts!
THANKS IN ADVANCE!!
Got these incredible orange Baggies long shorts for summer. Love the bright color and new fit. I have had them on non stop. I am about 200 lbs and 6 foot two and these XL fit perfect. Keep up the excellent quality Patagonia and I will keep coming back!
These are the most relaxed and comfortable shorts I've ever owned. We're sailors, and these are the perfect shorts once the boat is at anchor or on the mooring ball. They're great in the water as well. I bought three pair, and could have bought more.
I don't know what kind of lower body the person has who designed these but they must have zero butt or muscle, these are some of the most uncomfortable fitting shorts i've ever had the misfortune of owning and bringing on a beach trip. The pockets are way too deep as well. The upper thigh portion in FRONT of the shorts fits so oddly, its ... Read Morelike you weren't meant to move around in these. Kind of odd for swim shorts. Lastly the liner is the weirdest fitting piece to it all. I don't even know how to describe it other than extremely uncomfortable.

Best travel shorts
Lightweight, packable, and durable. Just returned home from a 12 day road trip to Acadia National Park and had 3 colors of these shorts with me along the way. They held up well all over and around Acadia and into the Atlantic Ocean, were there atop Mt. Washington in New Hampshire, and took a dip with me in Huron, Michigan, and Lake Superior, and al... what's working for me is the incredible customer service. Perfect travel shorts for rainforest hikes & swimming
Bought these for my husband for our Costa Rica rainforest trip. Our clothes never dried out because of the humidity and rainstorms every day, so these shorts became only shorts he wanted to wear. The mesh liner kept him cool and dry and the shorts didn't cling to his legs. He also wore them when we went snorkeling, stand up paddle boarding, an... I went a size down in these and they fit like normal shorts at first I ordered a medium and they are definitely baggie a lil too baggy for me I went a size down and they fit perfect
This is a tough item to review. The shorts seem like they could be great for a lot of different activity, but they don't stand out as excellent for anything. The material feels a little...something...stiff? Robust, certainly. I believe it will resist wear very well over time, but it is a heaver weight for the type. The legs are baggy, as the n... Read Moreame implies, so that helps a bit with air flow.
The inner liner makes these feel like swim shorts, and they're fine in water and dry quickly, but the liner is a little loose for my taste to wear the shorts on their own. The baggy nature of the legs also captures air and (potentially) shows off a bit more than some may be prepared for. The liner isn't so loose as to flash people, though, so perhaps I'm overcritical.
All of that makes it sound as though I don't like the shorts, and that isn't true at all. They are convenient and a bit like an AWD crossover. For basic use in almost any activity, they'll be fine. The construction lends itself to water, and hiking with a chance of waterfall is probably their perfect home. You could surf in them, maybe even run a bit. There are better options for both, but if you suddenly needed to run to the beach and hit the lineup, you could.
I ordered these for my 19 year old son. He loves them! The fabric feels good, the fit is great. True to size. Easy to care for and always looks good. (Even when thrown into a duffel bag for a few days)
These shorts are perfect for casual wear or wet wading while fishing. I have used them multiple times rafting some of the rivers in the Pacific Northwest.
Not an original title. This was the slogan for Baggies way back when I ordered my first pair maybe twenty years ago or even longer. I typically wear a 38/40 in things and the site recommended an XL. I found them to almost be too roomy, but they do have tie straps to cinch them up. They have good coverage on the legs, and the little mesh undies built in. Comfortable, the exterior dries very fast, the liner is slower to dry. I feel like the color faded on them very fast. Trail worthy
I wear the Baggies daily from April thru October, actually year round, just under long pants in the winter waiting for the sun to come out and temperatures to rise. Patagonia successfully helped the planet by using recycled fishing nets to make these shorts, and created the best shorts I've ever worn for summertime fun. I use them in the garden, in the river and around the back porch listening to music in the evening. Thanks for using recycled fishing nets!
I have bought baggies for at least 10-15 years and the latest version seem more boxy and less fitting. I wear them all the time but it seems the quality is not getting better
A little disappointing
Been wearing these shorts for years...and they are still great. Great for all around everything. Fishing, kayaking, sailing, summer work detail and casual wear. No issues but would like another inch or two in the rise. Light weight and cool but tough and durable.
I have had a pair since 2019 and they are by far my favorite pair of shorts. I wear them all the time casually, for running and hiking and to swim. I especially love them for summer trips where there is access to water. They are extremely hardy, and work great for all sports. I occasionally use them for Mountain Biking and they work great. Baggies short is comfortable and does what is needed in a short.
Excellent short for everyday leisure or a dive into a lake. The short is everything I expected it to be. Highly recommend.
I love these shorts because they can be dressed up or down. Great casual summer short for activities or just lounging. I would be into an unlined version because I feel bad cutting them out.
I am a fan of these shorts but not so much the liner, so I cut it out (sorry patagonia). Easy wearing. Im a bigger guy at 6 and 215 lbs. I was looking for something to replace my worn out athletic shorts I used when going for long walks and hikes around my neighborhood.
