This jacket is not for super cold weather but it's OK for weather over 40 degrees with layering. I run cold also. This fits me well even with a light vest underneath and I am a petite small woman.
Bought for my 11 year old he is about 5 ft tall and 105 lbs. This should be a great transition jacket. I also had my 14 year old daughter who is 5ft 6 in 115 lbs try it on, she could wear it also. It is lightweight and warm, we were in nyc with temps 25-49 with wind and no complaints.

This is a quality made, warm jacket as you'd expect from Patagonia perfect for skiing as its not too bulky. Our 9 year old son loves that its reversible.
We have purchased this exact model for both of our kids going on 7 years now. Each year we alternate between the two kids buying a new one and passing up the old one. Reversible (depending on mood), warm (depending on demeanor), and bulletproof construction (always required) these coats keeps both the kids and parents happy. Plus, we get to see these coats running around the neighborhood years after we have passed them up, and they still are performing. I couldn't recommend these coats high enough for little people. Maybe I'll get to own one myself one day!
I ordered the L for my 9 year old for next winter. When he tried it on it was at his waist level already but the sleeves were long. So the length seems too short for the sizing. I returned it because I figured it would be too short by next year. He is average size.

Great Winter Coat
My daughter wanted a winter coat that wasn't super-bulky, and I wanted one that would keep her warm through our cold Pittsburgh winter at the bus stop and during recess. This cute coat fit the bill perfectly. Thanks Patagonia!
Every time my daughter gets to wear this rad coat she is so excited. Its really warm and cozy and the hood is epic when it is blustery. If Jesus, Mohammad, Ghandi, Einstein, Tom Ford, and Yvon all got in a room this is their coat baby. If you are looking at this review and cost just stop now and click buy. Its worth every penny and more.
The coat is advertised as reversible. But there is a large tag on the back of collar when reversed. When removing the tag, the seam split, so we had to use a repair kit before my daughter ever wore the coat. Nice product otherwise, but not what you want To have happen on day one. The tag placement stinks.

Love the jacket for my Granddaughter perfect fit size and style
Purchased for 9 y/o to wear for winter play. The reversible feature was a huge hit: it is functional and also a lot of fun to have the option of variety and choices. It is really warm and the hood fits snuggly around the face so you dont need a hood.
I am typically a womens small, sometimes medium depending on fit. I ordered this coat because I do not like how fitted and tight in the shoulders the womens jackets are, and the XXL fits like a dream.
