Disappointed, poor quality, design flaws
I've worn Patagonia clothes for over 20 years for casual, technical, and work wear. I have many of my original purchases, still going strong. Sadly, many newer Patagonia items have quality issues, these included -- the stitching started failing almost immediately. In addition to the poor quality stitching, these pants have serious design fla... Read Morews. The zipper pull tabs fell out immediately. There are en enormous number of seems and panels -- this product does not have the simplicity Patagonia products are known for. It's overwrought. Amazingly, the integrated belt is a huge hassle, I can't understand how it was included. Almost every time I pull these on, the integrated belt, which is thin, twists inside the fabric. I must spend a few minutes manually untwisting it.
Hi Brad! Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. We're really sorry to hear about the disappointment with the pants. We truly appreciate these comments and we'll share this with our design team. Your satisfaction is always guaranteed so you're welcome to [return](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html).
Overall 36 is a great
Overall 36 is a great fit in waist, thighs, but pants are about 2 inches too long. If you hem you destroy cinch feature. I took them to Patagonia store in Pittsburgh and EE told me the short style would not fit. Material is light weight but durable. I had to kneel for a while on concrete and had no fabric damage. pockets, zippers, located and fit... Read Moreted nicely for misc and also to vent.
Bought one of these for climbing because my legs were getting small cuts from the rock while wearing shorts. Quickly discovered that these are an excellent pair of pants not only for climbing but for everything I've used them for so far, they dry very quickly which makes them useful for paddling trips, they are tough enough to hold up well to ... A bit tight
I originally purchased these pants for a fall attempt of Mt. Whitney. In the weeks leading up to and the day of they proved to be comfortable, wind resistant and reasonably stretchy. One minor bother is the sizing through the leg, which I felt was a bit tight. I don't think I have particular thick legs but these were just about awkward for me.... Read More
Perfect for the office, trails and casual wear
I have a pair of Altvia Light, Altvia Trail and now these Alpine. My favourites are the Light and now this Alpine version. They are excellent for wearing to the office for work as they look great and are comfortable for sitting. I purchased them for an upcoming mountain bike trip to NZ because of the more rugged construction, the pockets and the li... Read Moreght weight built in belt. I used the Altvia Light version for a recent trip into the mountains and they were excellent so looking forward to trying these as well. The test will be whether or not they are as comfortable as the Altvia Light version which might be hard to beat but did I mentioned the pockets? The stretch and fit are excellent.
Awesome alpine climbing pant
Purchased these pants with some skepticism because of how light the fabric feels. But so far I have been very happy with them climbing in Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana, including on longer alpine routes like the Exum Ridge of the Grand Teton. The pants are everything I could ever want. Material is amazing. The tie downs on the ankle are genius and work well. The built in belt is a must have. They're my new favorite pants. I had to get them altered because of my height and they were sold out of the short cut but thats my own problem. Pants are fantastic.
Tall people are real people too!
Ive been waiting for this pant for years. Its a great blend of light weight but durable. Built in belt, articulated, etc HOWEVER, Patagonia doesnt seem to believe in the existence of slender people with moderately long legs. At 63 my 34legs arent even long for my height but these top out at 32! Thats 2 of mosquito bite territory! 2 of chilly Achill... Hey Galen, thank you for the feedback. Unfortunately, we've had to cut down on how many pants we offer in long lengths. Right now it will primarily be our Workwear line and the [Men's Swiftcurrent Wet Wade Wading Pants](https://www.patagonia.com/product/mens-swiftcurrent-wet-wade-wading-pants-long/82106.html?dwvar_82106_color=FGE&cgid=mens-pants-jeans) that are offered in a longer inseam. The Altvia inseam does increase an inch if you go up in size, the crossover is from a size 33 to 34, which goes from a 32" inseam to a 33" inseam. We'll be sure to share your thoughts with the team.
Great pants, inseam too tall.
The material is incredibly stretchy without being annoyingly stretchy. I cannot speak to how they hold up on rock yet. The pants are incredibly long. I wish they came in a shorter inseam. I am going to hem them but I will be losing the drawstrings around the ankles in the process. A little disappointing.
Ive been hiking, backpacking, snowshoeing, and mountain biking for over 30 years and am wondering how I ever did it with out these pants. I have pants that are specific to all these activities, and these are the most comfortable, light, yet durable. They are a little on the tight side, but the stretch and cut will take care of you. Seems true to si... Read Moreze, but would size up if you plan on adding a base layer.
Kiss the zipper pulls goodbye
I have a family of 5, we all have these pants, every pair slowly but surely lost the zipper pulls

Super comfy. A little big
Ordered a 40, can wear 38-40 waist 610 265lbs Just got them out xc skiing. Then threw a shell pant over for a few down hill laps. Very comfortable. Overall good design and pocket placement. I'm hard on gear and I dislike gushing over it. That being said these pants are outstanding. Perfect cool weather alpine pants
Great mobility for climbing. Plenty warm for cool weather but didnt overheat while hiking fast. Will pair with a base layer when temps drop to low 40s. All around excellent
Very comfortable for hiking and backpacking. Perfect for my recent fall backpack in the Wind Rivers. Fabric has nice bit of stretch and is soft against the skin. They are a very comfortable material that is thin and comes with a nice stretch. I bought them with the intention of wearing them alone (in summer) or with a pair of thermal underwear (in winter) and the fabric and stretch allow for that perfectly especially with my size 33. The pockets are all great and I am happy to see that the two hand pockets are deep enough for a phone/wallet/etc. and not too short. Despite the length (I think there's some slight ability to sinch the leg opening) they are overall a great pant to take outside!
Great lightweight climbing pants
I usually do not review products, but this on stood out as a very good products that could use a few improvements. My main use is for climbing/hiking. Love these pants! I rarely wear denim anymore because of the lack of movement, and have transitioned to more technical pants. These are the best pair I have tried yet. Complete freedom of movement, super comfortable, and I love the fabric feel. On top of that they look great. Highly recommend.
