Comfortable, and easy to move in, I hike in them, rock climb, and hang out in them. I like the color and the stretchy material in the waistbelt, though I could see these over time, stretch out too much, only time will tell.
These are my new daily shorts. Very comfortable - made from the same stretch fabric as the pant. If I wear them climbing I usually just keep them on afterwards for the rest of the day.
These shorts
- don't restrict my movement while on the wall
- aren't prohibitively warm and cause me to sweat up a storm
- don't bunch up in weird ways or ride up when I take a fall on lead
- seem to be durable and able to deal with scrapes and scuffs (this is very important as

- are a bit loose around the waist, but I haven't had any issues with them falling down while bouldering
- perfect fit (close but not too tight and well shaped to me) in waist, inseam, length
- comfortable all day
- good back pockets - won't lose billfold
- good front pockets - won't lose iPHone
I bought this from Soho NY store. I was so happy since it was super comfortable when I tried in the store. However, I washed it when I come to home and I saw some parts of the short got white as if the fabric has defect. I couldn't even wear it once. Not a good product from a brand I love..
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this review and we are very sorry to hear about what happened to your shorts. When it comes to washing these shorts you will want to use light detergent and machine wash in warm water. Then you will want to tumble dry on low-to-no heat. With that said, your satisfaction is always guaranteed so please feel free to [return](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html) these shorts to us at any time.

Blame the archer, not the arrow...
I purchased this pair of shorts along with the Baggies (7in, Large) and also the Quandry Shorts (34) for a hiking trip through 3 Costa Rican National Parks. The shorts did not disappoint- the Venga Rock shorts perform best when wearing a harness for rock climbing, hands down. Without a harness, the Vengas would tend to slide if you had much in your... Read More pockets- I had to add a belt if I had a phone and wallet, but...that is more of a me issue, no fault of the construction of the shorts. They went from downpour conditions to intense heat all in the same afternoon without any chafing or discomfort- all over several days of hiking in mountains and swimming in the ocean. The front zippered pocket is a perfect size, fits an iPhone 12 Pro Max without any issue, I hiked 10+ miles per day with them- I would highly recommend them to anyone if performance is a factor, but they were equally at home by the campfire in the evenings.
I like these shorts quite a lot. I just wish Patagonia made a version with a shorter inseam. These hit just below my knee and I prefer just above both for style and functional reasons.
Overall I like these shorts but I did find the fabric much heavier than most of the lightweight hiking/backpacking shorts I normally buy. They are snug with a unique fit (back pockets wrap around), ideal for climbing. If these came in a lightweight, quick dry fabric they would be more versitile. They are just too heavy for my needs.
Thanks for taking the time to review our Men's Venga Rock Shorts. The heavier fabric you notice is for durability while climbing. Sadly, we didn't design these with hiking crossover in mind. Different fit than pants
Just a heads up to anyone who likes the Venga pants and are thinking about buying the shorts. The crotch in the shorts is about an inch higher than the pants, so there is a bit of a wedgie thing going on. I dont know if maybe the QQ for this pair was a tad off and the rest are the same cut as the pants, but my pants are a perfect fit and these are ... Read Morejust a little tight. Other than that theyre durable, VERY stretchy, and are super comfy. I wear them daily.
I bought these for casual wear in warm temperatures. My hope was they would freshen up my 20+ year Patagonia shorts quiver. I wasn't sure about the elastic waist band showing, etc. but they've been great and satisfied my hopes for something beyond "just another khaki short." They eliminated the bulk without "cargo pockets&q... Read Moreuot; and also lay flat under my climbing harness with good access to pockets. Lastly, i can wear them without a belt and they stay up when super active or carrying phone, wallet, etc in the pockets. All in all they've fit the need.
Overall fit is awesome the stretch and weight of shorts are by far the best. I did like the 10 Quandary Shorts and still do but these are my go to now on. I wish they came in INBK and FGE colors.
This style is great. I love the comfortable, mobile fit and the rear drop-in pockets.
The new elasticated waistband is a welcome improvement: it's simpler and more comfortable than the previous "oppo-set" system. The belt loops feel extraneous to me, but they don't get in the way.
I owned and loved a previous generation of pan... Read Morets in this style. The fabric on those pants was prone to durability issues, which was my only complaint. These shorts have a new fabric with higher cotton and lower polyester content, and it feels burlier to me. I'm hopeful that they'll last longer.
