Love the fit but lacks durability
I've had this jacket for 1 year and worn casually as an all-purpose coat - to the office, to run errands etc. It developed a tear in the elbow with several months of wear. I love everything about this jacket. It provides remarkable warmth for such a light weight jacket. Nothing constricts or constrains. The Best Jacket Ever
I think this is my 5th Down Sweater purchase, and it remains simply the best. This time I tried one of the synthetic-fill jackets (to spare the poor ducks), but it just didn't have the feel, lightness, or fit of the Down Sweater. I really love the new down sweater jacket. I bought my first Patagonia Nano Puff back in 2000. I loved it, and have worn it all these years. This is my second "down sweater" in the last 15 years. That speaks for itself. When my other one had so many spots and tears I decided to replace it with the same thing. It has served me well. I know now, that it is well worth the pretty high price. So to conclude, there are 4 major things with this jacket: It is warm, lightweight, lasts forever (through many washings and dryings) and it looks good too. The ultimate adventure piece

stylish warm jacket
I don't know why this is called a "sweater" because it is not a knitted item. I bouht it to be a jacket, which is what I call it. It is warm enought with a fleece under it if the weather is at least 40 degrees F. Colder than this, I would need a warmer jacket. I l am very happy with it.
The light weight is deceptive given how warm this stylish jacket is when you put it on and go outside in the cold. Comfortable for temps in the 40s and 50s, and I put a light weight down vest on underneath when it’s down to the 30s. Don’t think I’d wear it at temps below that given that I get chilled easily. Down sweater vs Thermoball
I ordered the W’s down sweater and the NF thermoball at the same time. I ended up keeping the down sweater and sending the thermoball back. The sweater is much warmer. Regardless - this jacket is warm enough for casual wear most days in the VT winter. I have also worn it as a mid-layer when skiing on cold days.
Sizing/fit not similar to previous Patagonia jackets
This LG does not fit correctly. The Sleeves are about 2" too long, The bust area fits but, just fits. The side quilting is not slimming. I guess I will just keep my old Patagonia.

This is my second down
This is my second down sweater, the first was a Mother’s Day gift from my kids many years ago. When the zipper on that one wouldn’t zip, the loca store fixed it. My daughter said if that wouldn’t have been possible, the store would have replaced the jacket. That zipper now has missing teeth, but I love the jacket, so the new one is my backup.
3 years and still going
I've owned one since 2016 living in Dallas. It's made it all the way to the PNW with me here in Washington. I've had it repaired once by Patagonia because of a tear in the front seam from biking I believe. It's lost some feathers, but still my favorite jacket of all.

Tight for a mid- or outer-layer
For the past few years I've been slowly replacing my Patagonia gear from 2007-2010ish. This coat from 2009 was my absolute favorite mid- or outer-layer (depending on the activity and temperature). I'm petite but a former gymnast with a gymnast's build (5'1", 36B, broad shoulders, bulky/muscular arms, 25" waist, 34" hips). Longer lengths - this year's is two inches longer and almost two inches narrower at the bottom hem - are not a fit improvement to me. It fits fine at my hips but is longer than I would prefer. MOST IMPORTANTLY, the shoulders are cut tighter (both across the back and the arm holes) and the arms are almost 3 inches narrower around which means I can no longer wear this rock climbing because I can barely lift my arms above my head. I prefer not to wear it as a layer for skiing or hiking because it feels so constricting over base layers. Sizing up would make the body absurdly baggy. I’m 5'3" 135lbs and the medium is a perfect fit for me over light layers like capilene with a fine wool sweater, but I have no room for heavy sweaters or fleece. I wear a 38C and the medium is just right in the chest. I couldn’t comfortably wear it any tighter. The shoulders are roomy enough that I can comfortably cross country ski and reach down to my boots. I feel it is the perfect length for me. Patagonia is the only company that changes the shade of red, and when you buy these things online, you rely on the color that is shown which, unless it's black, the online colors have deceived me every single time. (2). The pockets are extremely small. I'm a small person, and my hands don't fit in the pockets open. I have to make a fist for them to barely fit in the pockets. I bought this to replace an old Marmot, which had pockets big enough for my hands and my Samsung S8 phone. My S8 does NOT fit inside the pockets of this jacket. It's kind of disappointing because I actually love the fit everywhere else. The length of this jacket hits the mid part of my rear, not too long, not too short. I like it. Patagonia, I hope you're reading this and taking customer's suggestions into consideration in your design. I've never had a pocket jacket so small that my hands don't fit inside them. I'm debating whether or not to keep it or return it. The tomato color is bright, but not a proper red color, so I'm not sure if I want it. I really wish you have the same color options for one design vs the other (hood vs no hood). I buy these jackets for my hikes/climbing and I like bright colored jackets so that I can easily be seen on a wall climbing, or hiking or maybe when I'm not and need to be rescued. I need more color options for the hooded down sweater, please. I just ordered my husband a nano puff, so I'm hoping that it'll fit properly for him. One other thing, the XXS in this jacket is not the same as the XXS in the micro puff. The micro puff XXS is extremely tight around the arm and waist. Please keep your sizes consistent across product line. Thank you.
I was mostly loving this jacket-the xs was a bit tight, yet the sm was too large, but it was working out. However, the zipper is terrible! It goes up and down just fine, but snags on everything. Lots of the stitching is all pulled after only wearing this jacket for two weeks. The zipper on the hi-loft down hoody is much better.
Note the new ones run large, i used to wear a xs now wear xxs, but hips on these are snug, so unless you are slim order one size up New puffy sizing same except hips do not fit as tight, more like old puffy xs! Both are a tad longer than old ones, inch or so, same quality! Why did they change sizing, oh ehy or why!?
I've had a few down sweaters and a nano puff and love them all! I am mostly a winter photographer and find myself in outside in windy, wintery scenes so the down sweater is my go to. In fact when the chill comes to VT, it's pretty much the only jacket I wear still spring! I have size large, which is a little big, but perfect size for wear... Runs Big and very thin
I used the sizing guide and it recommend that I get a small which ended up being WAY to big. I am 5'6 and 125lbs. I am going to order this coat in an xs and hopefully that will fit better. It is also a lot thinner than I had imagined which isn't necessarily a bad thing but I'm not sure how warm it is going to keep me in the cold wint... Read Moreer months.
2nd down sweater
I gained weight & my size medium down sweater (which I’ve had for at least 7 yrs & still in perfect shape just a little tight). Had to buy a size large cause I can’t live without one! Best weight for many weather challenges! So light you can’t believe it is so warm. These wash beautifully! My husband also has one & loves it as well!
Light, soft, warm jacket
This is the first time I've owned a down jacket & I love it. I own many Patagonia clothing items but I think this may be my favorite. It's light weight but warm and I like that it can stuff into it's own pocket and become a travel pillow. I travel abroad once a year and this will be a great travel jacket. I'm going to surpri... Replaced my original Patagonia down sweater of 7+ years -- that had travelled to 5 continents -- with this new design: love the drawstring hem, slightly longer length and higher collar, narrower sleeves, and more opaque fabric...my older off-white was sheerer that the Birch color. Never got on a plane without it! I'm 5'3" and 105 lbs --... Read More the XS fits perfectly. However,in future designs PLEASE move the interior zippered stuff pocket back down to below the waist -- putting anything inside the current chest pocket is uncomfortable and makes one look terribly lumpy and "unbalanced"! Thank you,Patagonia, for an incredible recycling/credit program, excellent customer service, and 1% for the planet!
Great light weight,warm layer
I bought this jacket, this past summer when I realized the jackets I packed for a field season in AK were not warm enough. And for the price you can't beat it! It's super light weight, and warm. I wore it under my triolet jacket when I was working, and when I was out in town and it was perfect when I wore a warm base layer for the freezing c... I had an older version of the down sweater jacket, and it had a structured elastic at the waist that I imagine made for a comfortable fit on a range of body types. The new model almost seems like a men's cut - it's straight down the sides - and the bottom has a cord, but it can only be adjusted to be smaller. It's also hits pretty low ... Read Morefor a jacket (the medium hit mid-bum for me,I'm 5'7''),which means that if you have wider-than-your-torso hips,it either fits too snugly at the hips,or not at all. I usually wear a size medium so I tried sizing up to a large, and while the bottom fit,the arms and chest were way too large. If you are of consistent width from shoulder to bum, this would work for you,but otherwise it felt simultaneously boxy (chest) and tight (hips). I wish it fit better, because I do love the weight and warmth.
Boxy fit is a bummer!
This jacket has a nice texture, feels warm and has an appropriate length in arms and torso,as well as a good fit across the shoulders. However, the width of the fit in the torso is boxy, with almost too much material to make it a good layer. I am an athletic build and typically wear smalls in regular and athletic clothing,so was surprised to find the ... Read Morefit to be so wide through the waist when the fit was described as 'regular'. I know this product it meant to layer over larger base layers, but I'd literally have to be wearing another full jacket underneath (or a fanny pack) to fill up the space.
