Why Change a Good Thing?
I have a very old Womens Down Sweater Jacket, purchased in 2011, and sadly, it has reached the point that I need to purchase a new one. Imagine my surprise when I went to the product page to find that the new DS Jackets have moved the small chest located zippered pocket from the OUTSIDE of the jacket to the INSIDE! On my existing jacket the loca... Read Moretion of this little pocket was perfection. No need to unzip your jacket, or unbuckle your backpack harness, just reach up, unzip. With this new INSIDE the jacket location, all that ease is erased. I used this little pocket for a tissue in cold weather, lip balm, or eye drops. One quick zip and I could access these necessities while on the go not even having to look down to access it. No More!! The new location inside the jacket will require more time and energy. I ask, Why change a good thing? I have loved my old jacket and it has been around the world with me and served me incredibly well against light chill or temps down to 50 degrees by itself, and been light and easy to wear and carry. I am not sure I will purchase the new version of this jacket with this pocket relocation, as that little outside chest pocket was one of the things I loved about the DS Jacket. Patagonia, please bring this feature back to the OUTSIDE of the jacket!!
Warm and Comfortable
Next time I will buy xxs since this one is too big and baggy in the body and sleeves are too long. I will wear this one over sweaters and multi layers. Hope it doesn't fade
Great product. However with that being said, several darker jackets have faded. I have a neighbor whose jacket and coat are both brown. I have 3 of the old style women's down sweaters which I have bought over the year and love them, but my favorite is worn and discolored. Older version so much better
I am a huge fan of Patagonia, but in the past few years, new versions of this jacket are not quite the exact fit. Baloon-like fit on top, you need to have bulk around the biceps, and super skinny hips and waist.

The perfect coat!
This coat is very lightweight, stylish, and warm. I am 5 foot 1 and 99 lbs with shortish arms and the XXS fits well. Nice and cozy, but light weight
I've been wanting one of these jackets for years, I just couldn't see spending full price. So when I saw this jacket on sale, I instantly knew I was getting it. I first ordered an Xlarge...way too big. I'm 5'11" and about 160lbs. I returned and ordered the Large and it fits great. Even the sleeves are long enough for me. I ... Read Morelive back East and I usually drive in a vest, because I hate feeling too confined in a coat, but this feels like it's not even there. Not as Good as the Prior Version
I purchased this jacket in XS approximately 8 months ago. I already own 6 jackets in the prior version (the version just before this version was introduced). I absolutely love the prior version. It fits perfectly and I can wear a down vest underneath without it being tight or uncomfortable. It is extremely well made. I do not love this new version... Read More. I am fairly small - 5'5'' and 112 lbs. The new version is larger on the top, slightly smaller at the hip area and slightly shorter. My hips are approximately 33 1/2 ". While it fits okay with a light layer, I cannot comfortably wear a down vest underneath because the hip area is smaller, and the jacket is somewhat shorter. In addition to the fit issues, the construction and materials are just not as good as the prior version. The lining is thinner, the shoulders and arms have changed, and the draw sting design has also changed. I will not be purchasing any additional jackets made in this version. I really wish that they would return to the prior version - both the fit and design. Probably not going to happen though. I am glad I bought several of the prior version.
Thank you for the review Marsha. We did make some design changes to this jacket in Fall '22, we're sorry to hear they're not working for you. We recommend keeping an eye on our [Worn Wear website](https://wornwear.patagonia.com/shop/search?q=down%20sweater) for past season iterations.
The jacket is a good
The jacket is a good fit, but the horizontal padding make me look like a space man.
Thanks for the feedback, Melinda! You'll see the horizontal baffles on most of our insulated jackets, but we do have a couple with diagonal baffles which you might find to be more flattering; such as the [Women's Down With It Jacket](https://www.patagonia.com/product/womens-down-with-it-jacket/28041.html?dwvar_28041_color=SMDB&cgid=womens-jackets-vests-insulated). Just keep in mind that it will be quite a bit warmer!
Great jacket, but tight around middle
I love both the quality and green color of this jacket, however, it is a bit snug around the bottom. If I try to layer anything under it, it would be too tight. I wear a size 8 or 10 and am 5 ' 7'', 155 lbs. I would exchange it, but the shoulders and arms fit perfectly, so sadly I need to return it.
Hi Ginger, we're sorry to hear that fit was an issue with the Down Sweater. In the future, if you do have trouble with sizing, please don't hesitate to take advantage of our [complimentary exchanges](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html) in order to grab a different size.
I had one from a year ago that my dog ripped a hole in it so I got another one. I ordered the same size and the new one is a little bigger. Sleeves a longer, jacket a little wider, etc. I love it however. Just should have tried on first.
We appreciate your feedback, Kim! We'd be happy to take a look at your previous jacket to see if we can repair it, so please don't hesitate to reach out to our [Customer Service](https://help.patagonia.com/s/) team if you'd like assistance. In Fall 2022, our design team made a few changes to this style, adding more down insulation, changing the zippers, and updating some measurements at the sleeve and hip. Thanks for taking the time to review it!
Love this jacket!
This is a very pretty light purple that I got a good sale price. It is still a bit cool in the mornings, and this is the jacket I have grabbed as I head out. Love that the arms are long enough for me. Please don't change the sleeve lengths - tall peeps need the longer sleeves.
Comfortable warm jacket
Comfortable well made jacket. Nice deep pockets with zippers. Arms are a little long which I like because if I dont have gloves on my hands are still warm. Big enough to wear a sweater underneath if needed. The only problem is it is a little tight around the bottom which makes it a little difficult to zip, but not impossible.
My favorite go to jacket!!
This is my go to jacket!! I purchased my first several years ago and find it so versatile. I originally purchased this new design in an XL after readin... Read Moreg the reviews that it ran small. I did not find that to be true. Im an average size 12 , usually wear a L In Patagonia , thus the XL was way too big overall. Because the color I ordered was on sale( more reason to purchase) and L was not available, I exchanged for M which was a little too snug. Soooo I waited it out( so grateful Patagonia is so generous with exchange time limit of 1 year!!!) and luckily the L became available, which arrived and fits great! I have long arms and wide shoulder and L fits well. The length falls nicely at hips. Keeps me warm, and is great under a winter jacket for additional warmth without the bulk while skiing . I cant sat enough about this jacket
Bought for my mom
She wore it to a trip to Oregon and Washington through snow and rain. Though not water proof, she stayed warm. She is generally a cold person so layering with this on the outside helped a lot. One tiny con is not a lot of option for colors. She bought a bigger size to layer, typically shes an XS.
Beautiful Jacket - Not Made for Petites
I was so excited to receive my XS jacket! The jacket was well made, and beautiful! Then I tried it on; sadly I had to return it. It was too long, the sleeves were huge. PLEASE Patagonia make some petite sizes, I do not want to purchase a kids jacket! I am 5 feet tall 100 pounds. Thanks!

Light weight warmth
Very warm, lightweight and wind resistant. Allows full range of movement without bunching when used as a liner or having cold spots. The liner clings to body to eliminate drafts. I love my old Patagonia down sweater and I am very sad they changed the cut. It is shaped more for a man than a woman. It is broad in the shoulders, long in the sleeves and tight around the hips. Please, Please, go back to your old pattern.

Lightweight and lovely
I have wanted one of these for a long time and was delighted to see the color I like on sale. Love the warmth, style, pockets and the bright pink interior with matching zipper pulls. Weird fit - very tight on hips
Like others, I found this fit strangely tight on the hips. Ordered 2 sizes - the small was much too large in the shoulders and chest while snug on hips; the XS fit up top but couldnt even close on hips (2-3 inches gap). Loved the coat, hated the fit
I wear a Patagonia S, but when I tried this on at the Cambridge, MA store, it felt a little close on the hips. I wanted room for a bulky sweater, if needed, so I ordered the medium. It was way, way too big around chest and waist, and just right on hips. Very disappointed with the fit.

lightweight, warm, happy
This is a much better option for cold temps than the Nanopuff. The down sweater is close/slim fitting but works well over a thin sweater or lightweight long sleeved shirt. Interior chest pocket is perfect for putting in some credit cards or folded paper money, a set of keys.
Perfect for my needs!
Wow, I cannot believe this jacket checked all the boxes - fit, style, color, length and weight. I wanted a down jacket that was warm but lightweight and easy to pack/wear when travelling. I chose this jacket over the hoody version because hoods usually add too much bulk (unless they are removeable). Beautiful jacket!
Purple Down Sweater
Absolutely love this jacket. It is so lightweight and comfortable. I took it with me to North Carolina and it was perfect. Had a light t-shirt underneath and it kept me warm. It is also packable so it took up almost no room in my suitcase. Would definitely recommend this jacket!!!
nice, tight in the hips
I got the grey/blue jacket and love the look, though like others, I find that the jacket is tight at the hips. I'm tall and slender and did not have this problem with my previous Patagonia jacket. I hope the designers take note of the comments. Not sure who they are using as models!

I have worn Patagonia products forever, and this is the first down sweater i dont recommend ! The fit is good. But the problem is that the down feather ends poke through the lining, constantly biting my back and arms ! Not good. Probably wont continue to wear.
Hi Julie! Thank you for taking the time to write us a review on the Women's Down Sweater. We're really sorry to hear down is poking through the material. It is completely natural for some of the down and feathers to escape through the fabric, particularly in the seams. The sharp quills of the feathers can poke tiny holes in the fabric and work their way through to the outside. It is normal for this to happen, particularly in newer products when the down has not had an opportunity to settle. In rare cases, a material defect may cause excessive down leakage in a product which is covered under warranty. If you're unsatisfied you're welcome to [return](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html).

Read Moreze up for a relaxed fit, I ordered a Medium and it was huge on me, even though I have broad shoulders compared to the rest of my body. I was able to exchange for a Small (my regular size) which fits perfectly everywhere except the hips, where it's a snug. The drawcord hem feels like a joke -- I can barely fit the jacket around me completely expanded. I also wish it was longer in the back, but that's just my preference. I kept it since it was on super sale, but just feel like this could be so amazing with a few tweaks.
We really appreciate the feedback Alexandra, and will share your thoughts on fit with our product team!
Always Just Enough
No matter where I bring this jacket in my bipolar city weather, its always exactly the right thickness to keep me comfortable. Perfect Fit and Warm!
I love this jacket, it was just what I was looking for. I have the Nano Puff hoody, but it was just not keeping me warm enough. When I first opened the package I was worried because the jacket didn't see as "puffy" as I was expecting and I was afraid it wasn't going to keep me warm. But, the fact that the material is windproof, ... Read Moremakes a huge different and the loft is perfect. This is now my winter go-to jacket. And I love the fit and colors of the blue jacket. It's a very flattering cut! Bonus!
Great warmth & wearability
Really love this versatile down sweater - no bulk, super warm and cuts the wind. Perfect for riding my horse when xtra warmth is needed; ideal for hiking. Great Pockets allow for iPhone, dog biscuits. Added bonus, fits great under my Patagonia down jacket when the temps really drop.
I wanted to love my Down Sweater but the fit was weird. The color was also not what I expected. I normally wear a small in other brands but because Patagonia runs small I went up to a medium. The bottom was tight around the hips, the arms were long and the shoulders wide. Patagonia needs to adjust the fit of woman's jackets and coats.
We're sorry the fabric and fit were off, but we really appreciate your detailed feedback. It's so helpful for our design team. Thanks for taking the time to send us your review, Julie!
Love the weight of this jacket!
This sweater is light as a feather, but oh so warm! It fits snug but looks good even though I don't usually like form fitted jackets. I love the fact that I hardly realize it is on. I bought the blue tones, which are my favorite colors, so I love wearing it all the more. Being that our Northern Minnesota winters drag on well into end of April,... Read More I think I'll be able to wear this sweater at least until mid-May if not longer. The material is soft and doesn't make a lot of swishing noise when walking and swinging my arms. I highly recommend it!
Not if you have any curves
My family buys a lot of Patagonia, it's pricy but great gear and we watch for sales. We know it has a slim fit, which has always bothered me but I purchase accordingly and often times need to go with another brand. I have an older down sweater in a size M and it fits me great. After reading reviews on the new cut I ordered a Large. The large i... Read Mores too tight on my hips and is large and bulky in the back. I am disappointed! I hope Patagonia will look into options for people who are not tall and slim but still athletic and want good gear. I'm a pretty average sized woman, I wear a size 8-10 pant. I've have better luck with the fit of Eddy Bauer and Columbia but I prefer PataGucci. For being such a forward thinking company it has always bothered me that Patagonia does not do a better job with size inclusivity. After this last purchase I had to write a review.
Love the long arms
This jacket is as advertised - it packs small, is lightweight and warm. I think it'll be what I bring with me 3/4 Minnesota seasons (winter deserves a heavier choice - or layers I guess!). It's already traveled to Mexico and was a great choice for cool nights. Stylish cut, not bulky. I especially appreciate the long arms in this jacket.

*disclaimer - I worked in an Outdoor Reailer for about 6 years. What says the most? I still buy Down Sweaters. No Discount. They are all "the best". The Down Sweater is MY favorite.
Perfect Fit, Perfect Jacket For Me
I bought the large size in Sound Blue at REI. This jacket fits me perfectly: the sleeves are nice and long right past my wrist (I like that length), I can wear it over a fleece jacket for a nice snug fit, and its warm. I love the pink interior and pink zipper pulls. This is my new favorite jacket of the five I own. Its perfection!
Love but too slim
Small around hips .. only comes slim :(;(
Hi Denise, thank you for taking the time to write a review. This season's Down Sweater has a slimmer fit through the body and waist. If you haven't already done so, please feel free to take advantage of our [complimentary exchanges](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html) to grab a different size.
Very nice but not quite what I was looking for..
I wanted something for high elevation winter hiking, trail running, snowshoeing, etc., so I first bought the AlpLight down jacket. It was a very strange fit for me, so I thought I would try this and see how different it really is, functionally. For reference, I'm 5'5", and 39", 29", 40. I'm not a super athlete anymore.... Read More This fits me much better, and I like the color I was able to get better - but it is definitely thicker and honestly I don't think it's as warm as the AlpLight. I find it a little strange that this is called a down sweater, when it's too thick to fit under another coat, but the AlpLight down jacket might fit under a coat, and is more packable. I'm afraid I'll probably return this one, even though I like it better, because it's not as functional for the purpose I bought it for. I could wear it in my very cold home office as a sweater. For outerwear, I prefer something longer, unless I'm doing something active, in which case the AlpLight is probably better.
Hey Ava, thanks for the thorough and detailed review. The Alplight was designed for alpine pursuits so it will definitely be more lightweight and packable, but the Down Sweater is pretty packable as well. With that said, it does have more loft and bigger baffles. We think the [Women's Micro Puff Jacket](https://www.patagonia.com/product/womens-micro-puff-jacket/84071.html?dwvar_84071_color=HMKG&cgid=root) might be worth checking out considering what you are looking for. It does not have down insulation but the synthetic works well in wet weather and it is also very packable.
Fit is not for me.
Fit is not for me. Too long too thin. Please consider making petite sizes. Also the sweater has been sprouting feathers since the second wearing.
Hi Katharine, thank you for submitting this review. With regard to the feather loss, you may be able to keep them intact by pulling them back in from the other side, and then firmly rubbing the fabric with your thumbs to close any hole that has formed. In any case, it sounds like the size or cut of this jacket is not for you. We want you to be happy with everything you purchase from us, and if you like we'll be happy to help you [return](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html) it. We'll also share your feedback on the size options with our design team.
This is my 4th Down
This is my 4th Down Sweater and it is noticeably cut slimmer than my other 3. Im not certain why Patagonia found it necessary to change the cut from the original but it is not nearly as comfortable as the original cut.
Thanks for the feedback, Judie. We did make some changes to the overall design and fit in hopes of making it better. We're sorry to hear that it has resulted in a much more snug fit for you. If you'd like to exchange out for a size up or return, click [here](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html).
I bought this to upgrade from my daughters 7-year old version and enjoy the newer inside pockets and deep blue color. Different Fit from Previous Version
I sized up from my usual Patagonia size Small because I wanted to be able to wear it comfortably over a heavier top like a Micro D 1/4 zip. I already have a the down sweater in a size S and size M. I found the fit on this one to be different. It was a closer fit through the body than my other down sweaters and the sleeves were longer (too long). I ... Read Morecould have kept it, but I decided that sleeve length and general fit were a deal-breaker. Also, the color was more purple than blue and I didn't like all of that bright pink contrast. My new down jacket is
My new down jacket is very comfortable, warm and fits well. I like the color but was surprised that the lining is pink, not my preference. I love that Patagonia uses recycled materials including down, and is taking major steps in an attempt to help the environment. I will continue to support your company whenever possible.
Fantastic fit if you have a chest
Finally! A Patagonia jacket that accommodates a larger chest! This jacket is fantastic! It has plenty of room for my 36DD and is slim in the torso/waist and hips! Read Morehip shape, it might be too tight in that area. Definitely not for pear shapes. Thrilled with this cut!!!! If you are a pear shape- I purchased a Nano large and it was more of a typical Patagonia cut - small in the chest - narrow torso - wide hips. It barely fits over the ladies - doable but restrictive.
Weather versatile coat!
I love this jacket. It is the second one I have purchased. Still wearing the original one but wanted a second color. This jacket is awesome in a broad range of weathers. Because I was unsure of size I purchased this in the medium and the large and returned both of them. In both jackets the arms were disproportionately long and because the sleeves did not fit tightly around the wrist I was unable to push the arms up although given how long they were I doubt that would have worked.

Great mid layer down jacket
Love the fit of this. Im an athletic build and sometimes Patagonia sizes are tight around my shoulders and back in small. In this jacket the small feels great, its comfortable and snug. Love this coat!
This is my second down sweater. I purchased my first one about 9 years ago, and it was still my go to everyday winter coat but due to some wear over the years wanted an upgrade. I personally love the new fit. Its longer and less boxy compared to my first down sweater. I am still impressed by the warmth, and I love the vintage purple color!
Love this jacket. Keeps me reasonably warm (not toasty, but warm enough) down to about 20 F. This does run a bit small. I'm a large to XL in Patagonia. Definitely needed an XL in this one. The colors are great - really nice to have the bright blue/pink rather than the drab brown/red theme Patagonia has at the moment. If I would make one design... Nice Jacket, Color Did Not Work
I gave this jacket 4 stars because of the color. It looked different on line and didnt work out for me, so I returned it for credit. That said, I wish I could have kept it. It fit nicely and looked well made.
Hi Sharon, we're sorry that Rustic Purple didn't turn out to be what you were hoping for. Please let us know if we can be of any help with that return, or with finding an alternative.
My favorite winter jacket
This is my third Women's Down Sweater. It's the perfect weight and warmth for most of the winter in Anchorage, AK. I like this new design, the fit around my hips is better - not so blousy. However, to fit my shoulders/chest I need a large - the new design seems to have longer sleeves and they are too long for me. I am going to see if my f... Read Moreriend who is a seamstress can help me shorten them about 2 inches and insert a new elastic.... otherwise the elastic is too loose to hold the sleeves at my wrist and they eventually drop into my palms and interfere with my gloves. TOO LONG EVERYWHERE. why did they change it?
This jacket was a standard for Patagonia. Beloved. And then... they made it inches longer. It is a totally different jacket now that it covers the butt. Sadly, I will be on ebay trying to find an older one.
Thank you for sharing this feedback, Liz. We're sorry this revision missed the mark for you. If you prefer the previous model you can also watch our [Worn Wear](https://wornwear.patagonia.com/) site for gently-used Down Sweaters of previous styles. Please let us know if we can help!
I love the Patagonia puffer,
I love the Patagonia puffer, which is what we call the down sweater. It is warm without the weight, feels like wearing air! My daughters keep borrowing my puffers, so I keep restocking! My husband wears his black puffer everyday on the train commuting into NYC. Our whole family enjoys wearing Patagonia puffers!
Great All Purpose Jacket
I have two hooded down sweaters and got the this version as a lighter and even more packable option for traveling and its great! The sleeves are just a touch long. I roll them a bit most times. Could improve fit
I ordered an xs and a small because I was nervous based on reviews that the xs would be too snug. I have this jacket from about 4 yrs ago and saw in reviews that they changed the fit. I ordered this in a medium, my size in Patagonia fleece. It fit great through the arms, shoulders and chest but it was way too tight around my waist.
