Perfect for rainy days
I am using this jacket for rainy days. It fits well and is perfect for keeping me dry! If it's chilly, I have room to add a fleece underneath. I am usually a medium, but ordered a large. Sleeves are a tad long, but the Velcro straps keep them from hanging over my hands. I am very happy with this jacket and hope to have it for years to come.
great jacket....though ran into a problem today. The carbiner loop in the left hand pocket got jammed in the zipper and it was impossible to open the pocket. I prefer purchasing petite-sized/Medium clothing. This rain jacket was not available in Petite. Medium was too small around my hips, so I moved up to a Large. Sleeves were 6" too long. Wind and rain repellant
As a woman, I love how this jacket fits: It's not baggy and feels like it has a custom fit for my body type. I purchased this for my wife who says she loves it but wishes the cut was different which is the only reason why she said 4 out of 5 stars. Maybe the mens cut she would like better. I havent worn it on a hike yet because we are still Nordic skiing in my neighborhood and havent had rain. The real test will be backpacking out of a lake in the rain for 5 or 6 hours. Ill write another review for you then.
I haven't gotten much wear out of my jacket yet, so I cannot speak on performance. However, I have tried on both the medium and large sizes. I am 5'4" and about 150lbs. Narrow in the hips
A two-way zipper would have made this jacket work for me. The large (Im a size 12) fit, but the hips were very snug, making it awkwardly tight fitting when sitting down. Loved the color and the well fitting hoodI can tell it would keep me dry on those wet dog walks. If youre slim in the hips, this jacket will work.
Nice coat but too noisy
I wanted to like this coat and liked most things about it but the very noisy fabric was very distracting when I was out walking in the rain so I returned it.
Hi there, thanks for taking the time to write this review and we are sorry you weren't satisfied. In order to create a fabric that is waterproof and up to our H2NO standards, it does end up making some noise when rubbing against itself. With that said, we have passed this feedback along to our Design Team who are constantly working on improving future versions of our gear.
Not completely satisfied with rain jacket
This is the third Torrentshell jacket Ive purchased from Patagonia. If I had been able to try it on in the store, I am not sure I would have purchased it for the following 2 reasons. Nice fit, super disappointed
This is a really well designed jacket except for one thing. Women, in my opinion, do not want to be forced to carry purses these days. There is no way to keep the hood cinched in place. In the blowing wind and rain, I had to hold the draw strings to keep the hood from flying off, not good while you're trying to work. The fit of the jacket is good overall, so I don't understand how this detail is missed.

The Camp Green was a huge hit and sold out everywhere, and I was sad it was no longer an option. But more Tans, Browns, Dark Greens?? The men's version of this jacket has great colors, but I am hesitant to order a men's jacket because I don't want to sacrifice a good fit. Still love you, Patagonia
DON'T BUY WHITE

Patagonia always scores high with the materials they choose. The shell itself is great against the rain. The adjustable hood is also useful. However, I struggle with Patagonia fit. Excellent Durability & Quality
I hike (a lot) in a variety of terrain and various climates. I researched rain shells in this price range for a long time. True, there are other -more intens... Read Moree (goretex) shells and alpine worthy models that are even more hardwearing and stronger, but (in this price range) you get major bang for the buck, from a company that stands by their gear and makes sure it kicks ass. It is a rain jacket that has been thoughtfully made by designers who are active people themselves and put a lot of detail and craftsmanship into their end products. I recently Day hiked in a moderately Rainy -Virginia- Fall- Woods, and after a few active miles on the trail; I was still dry. Not a drop of water breached my clothing. (Minus normal body heat/perspiration) which is normal and to be expected. When I day hike, I only carry a small bag for essentials but about to head out soon for larger more intense hikes with over nights and carrying a larger backpack. Now I have the assurance of a durable- lightweight, packable- rain shell for those unplanned-rainy,misty moments or downpours that just might happen. The pit zips are great to help dump heat when you are driving ahead on the trail. There is a flap that covers the entire length of the front zipper to help eliminate rain from seeping through- and it has not breached me thus far. There are left and right side pockets which you can stow little stuff for quick grabs on the go. You can adjust the drop waist to fit loosely or snuggly with an adjustable cord built in, and the hood is also adjustable in the same way, so you can have the hood drawn up snuggly- close around your face when its pouring but still be able to move your head side-to-side and the hood moves with you; instead of you hearing annoying crinkling noise and looking at the close-up of the inside of your hood! Like some other brands do. (An important feature) Finally, one subtle downside is regards to the amount of breathability. This jacket is not super breathable; but it is after all- a rain jacket! I would expect you will perspire somewhat to a point, in almost all rain-jackets no matter what the price range. And so-I can forgive this. I know many women like to have their clothing so that it is slim fitting and tapered so as to highlight your waistline -however, in the case of a rain shell for hiking, I would not recommend purchasing a snug size. Consider the sizing chart that Patagonia has provided and make sure to have it fit a slight bit larger than you would for normal wear. In example - I could technically wear a small. And it would look shapely, but not leave any breathing room. My rain shell is not chosen for flattery but for me getting out to hike and sweat and work for it! Or a trip to the office or around town to your local grocery store- this is also a great piece. Just remember to leave room for a fleece or mid layer or puffer jacket to fit underneath. If you are truly hiking in it- you want this little bit of extra room. Trust me. (Thank you- Patagonia for another awesome product.)
