Not Quite Slim Fit
The jacket is very warm, light, and works well for what it is. However, I have some minor complaints about the fit, in particular for casual wear and usage. It seems to fit me a little tight around the shoulders and upper back, as well as on the waist, but billows on my back and stomach. I consider myself somewhat athletically built but not abnorma... Read Morelly, so it came as a shock that their "slim fit" sat this way. Overall, good jacket.

Thank you for the review, Greyson. We're so sorry to hear that you experienced such an odd fit with this jacket. You are correct that it should have a slim fit all the way throughout. The bottom hem on this jacket varies from 18.5" laying flat to 29" depending on size. If you're interested in checking out our other slim fit options for insulated jackets, [click here](https://www.patagonia.com/shop/mens-insulated-jackets-vests?prefn1=fit&prefv1=slim) and reach out to customer service if you need specific garment measurements.
The jacket does its main job well - it is light and warm. The secondary jobs of pockets the jacket can pack into are ok but not great - the zippers on the pockets are a bit finicky (probably too small) and can easily get caught on the jacket fabric. When packed, the jacket is an irregular triangle shape (this is shown on the product page, but in pr... Read Moreactice the shape is more irregular). The resulting packed material is a bit squishy - I think the limiting factor on a tighter packing is the mediocre pocket zipper. Overall a good jacket with some minor design flaws.
Lightweight jacket that keeps me warm on cold days. However, the durability of the jackets material is questionable. There is a small cut near the jackets collar where the stuffing can be seen coming out. Not sure if its a manufacturing defect or material strength

Thank you for your review Jonathan. We're sorry to hear that your jacket has developed a hole. We're happy to send out free patch kits if you need one or set you up with a repair. We'll email you to gather more information, thank you!
My husband received a black jacket for Christmas. It was his first experience with Patagonia. He absolutely loved it and insisted on getting another just like it. He chose the blue one and couldn't be happier. Fit, comfort and warmth make for a very happy hubby!!
Warm and light
Used primarily as a casual coat to wear to work as an outer layer. I am 5'11" and 170 pounds and a large is perfect for that. If I was going to use primarily as a midlayer I would get a medium. I like the pockets. Zippers are kind of a pain but I mostly leave them open as most stuff will stay in them unless you go vertical. Really warm fo... Read Morer the weight. Great Except Zippers
Snug fit, but I like its light-but-warm feel. Good wind resistance. Zippers are too damn small and jam in fabric, especially when you're trying to get 'em up or down with cold fingers. This is a replacement for my nano. I like it because it has a larger zipper and is easy to zip up. Zip up all the way to protect my neck from strong winter breezes. Great 25-45 degree jacket
This jacket is perfect through a New Jersey winter except for a few of the coldest days. I like the fit - it's more fitted than a lot of clothes these days. I haven't tried it in any snow or rain but generally I would pull out other jackets if things get nasty. My one request would be an interior chest pocket for my phone.
Loving the Jacket
I was torn between Nano and Micro puff jacket but when Alplight went on sale, I decided to give it a go. Its warm and fits perfectly for me, and I am 5'10 and 180 lbs. I am worry about the longevity of the jacket with the material being bit flimsy so something to keep my eyes on.
Great lightweight down jacket
I love this coat--super light and super warm. I read other reviews and was a bit worried about the slim fit, so I ordered a large, but it was too big--though it may have worked as an outer coat. The medium is snug but fits right and is still long enough to go down over my waist and belt. One of the surprisingly great things is the giant deep pocket... Great layer, if I lost 25pounds
I must not have the slim part of the description. My mistake, I should have a job that I could exercise a lot more; it seems to be a great coat for skinnier people. I would recommend this coat to my skinnier friends.

Great mid-layer jacket!
I have worn this jacket several times now. I was just skiing in Breckenridge CO on a very cold day, 5 degrees without windchill, at Breckenridge. I wore this jacket with a Nano-Puff jacket under a Patagonia Shell and they kept me warm! Love the fit. Love the compact nature that fits mid-layer really well, and love the warmth!
It is warmer than normal
It is warmer than normal than it looks, but I still wish there is a thicker/warmer version of the coat that I can wear on a cold windy day

All around great jacket!
I rarely write reviews, but the this AlpLight down jacket warrants taking the time and effort. It is awesome! Read Moreroduct before, I had no specific expectations, other than good quality, but I was very pleasantly surprised by the tailored like fit and feel of the jacket when it arrived. It is also warm and extremely light weight. It looks great and fits me perfectly. This was a very fortunate backup purchase for me. I will certainly be shopping for Patagonia products in the future.
Unusable pockets because of cheap/ poor zipper design
Will be returning this Christmas gift. Great coat otherwise but it does not have the standard small metal zipper piece attached to the zipper, just a small cord directly attached (saved them 10 cents to skip the piece?) SO the zipper wont open and close properly and gets snagged. Too bad since the coat is awesome but cant use it.

Hey Steve, thanks for the review. This jacket was designed to be ultra lightweight for alpine pursuits, the decision on the zipper pull was less about saving money and more about creating something extra light that could be easily packed away. With that said, the zippers should still be able to function smoothly. Great but no loop to hang!
Glad I got this particularly on the Winter Sale but living in a place with limited closet space, I'm hanging everything up on hooks. Very slim fit
Normally wear a size large in Patagonia jackets. This down jacket is a very slim fit and was too tight in sleeves, armpits and across back. It appears to be well made however so if you are on the slim(very)side, go for it. I had to return it.

Made for matchstick men
The body of the jacket is fine - BUT- the sleeves are made for guys with spaghetti arms. Down Packed Out
Purchased this lightweight jacket for an upcoming Haute Route trip this spring. Took it ski touring in the Wasatch for five days for a test run and the fill is already starting to be dramatically displaced in the underarm area where your pack straps make contact.
Response from PatagoniaMarch 21, 2022
Hi Ian, washing and drying is a great way to help redistribute the down. We recommend using cool to cold water on a gentler cycle in your washing machine. You can use a gentle powder detergent to wash that item. Once washed, you can place your item in your dryer on a low heat setting with either two clean tennis balls, or two dryer balls. The balls will help restore the loft of the down and ensure that the item dries evenly. Please note, drying down items can take a while, so you may need to use more than one dry cycle. It's important that you use a low heat setting and check to make sure your item is thoroughly dried before removal from the dryer. Of course, if you're still not happy with the look of your jacket after washing, please feel free to begin a [return or exchange](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html) at any time.

Hey Russ, thanks for the review. We'd like to mention that the Men's AlpLight Down Jacket has a slim fit, you can check the fit on any item by going to the product page and checking underneath the size range options. The right amount of warmth for the weight
