I got this pack because I wanted something that was easily compatible with the Patagonia convertible vest, and thats the highlight for me. I love that fishing vest and its accessibility, but as a stand-alone this pack wouldnt be my first choice.
1. Extra rod tube storage - if youre wearing a pack, chances are you might be moving a long distance a... Read Morend the rod storage on this pack is wonky. The side clips dont hold, they come apart or sag, so I have to attach voile straps to keep the rod in place with the mesh holders. Mesh holders are great for water bottles, not rods.
2. Big miss is the net holders. I have big nets and hand nets and none of them stay even remotely close to in place where i dont feel the need to at least have a gear retractor. I wish this was better, it would make everything ok.
Overall comfort and the interior water proof storage pouch inside are good. The design on the two points above are the difference between a backpack a great fishing pack.

Nice Bag, Needs Some Pockets
Bag and quality is very nice and looks good. Net storage also works to store the waist belt when not in use. Bag could use some more pockets on the inside such as a mesh storage on the inside wall of the bag. Aside from missing a few pockets, its great.
Only had this pack for a couple of months before a zipper broke on it. There's also a great lack in pockets within the backpack to keep things organized, whether it's a fly box of everyday needs. Wouldn't recommend this backpack for serious fishing or everyday use.
We appreciate your detailed feedback and we're very sorry to hear that the features are lacking and the zipper has broken. Your purchase is covered by our [Ironclad Guarantee](https://help.patagonia.com/s/article/Ironclad-Guarantee), so we'll reach out to you for further assistance. Thanks for taking a moment to submit a review, Will!

Great Quality
Im using this bag for travel/hiking. The main pocket is very large and fits my packing cubes. The waterproof pocket is perfect to keep my phone dry while hiking when its raining. High quality materials.
Well built and light backpack. My only complaint is the lack of storage pockets/compartments inside the backpack. Ideally there should be pockets to hold leaders, tippets, indicators and other items. You basically have 2 compartments, one large pocket and a sleeve for a laptop/water hydration system. You have to pile everything in with little/no or... Read Moreganizational capabilities. Would have been nice to have some type of organizational system inside the pack.
My first review of this pack was reviewed and taken very seriously by Patagonia. The original pack developed a tear after a few uses and Patagonia immediately reached out to make corrections. After addressing all options, they recommended I return the pack to a store. Excellent customer service by the way.
Now for the second pack. It is identical ... Read Moreto the first, but there are some small changes. Perhaps my original was just one of those that slipped through the cracks. The fabric and stitching on this pack is incredible! It feels heavier and much more durable than my original. Additionally, the clasps and buckles appear to be a more durable plastic. They even sound different when they click together. Perhaps I missed it on my original, but there is also a small hole for a water bladder tube on the top, between the straps. There is also a waterproof bag about 5 x 7 inches to hold important items and documents. Very nice pack and excellent customer service from Patagonia.
Exactly what I was looking for. Great fit for my foul weather gear, leaving room for plenty of other things. The additional waterproof pocket is an awesome bonus to keep wallet, phone, keys. And its right by the top so you do not have to search for it.
Good pack, lightweight, easy to adjust. Feel like top pocket could use another inch of depth, to hold a wallet. Dont know why the velcro patches are on the outside but their inclusion distracts from the aesthetic of the pack.
Patagonia...
Why have you not improved the waist belt on this (almost) perfect pack? In my opinion, you made one major improvement (amongst a few other improvements) by adding an attachment point to attach a net, but dropped the ball by not improving the waist belt (with padding and storage pockets for lip balm, etc). Ridiculous!!
I am using this pack for my fly fishing gear. So far, I like everything about it except the spot on the back for the net. The openings are not large enough to slide my short handled fishing net into.
I fly fish with my backpack. After I received my pack from patagonia i went a different direction.
the main fault is that there no loops or spots to hang my tippet or nippers off my belt. these are the only tools i keep in front of me . Otherwise i liked the pack.
Ive used this pack on three, all-day fly fishing trips to the Deschutes River, the Yakima River, and Tillamook Bay. I found it to be an extremely lightweight and roomy pack, enabling me to comfortably carry my entire repertoire of gear. I was very happy that Patagonia finally included a landing net slot on the pack (it only took you ten years), but... Read More was extremely disappointed to discover the net is damn near impossible to remove from the slot - due to the odd angle that it is designed - without entirely disengaging the backpack from your shoulders. This is very difficult to do while you are fighting a fish. Apparently, none of the product testers noticed this. Like the water bottle holders and the waterproof, internal key fob holder, though.
