Canyon Woodward
Canyon Woodward is one of the strongest emerging trail runners in the US, shaped by years of big-effort running in his home range of the Smoky Mountains. He’s taken that foundation to both racing and personal mountain objectives, earning major wins nationwide and back-to-back top-three American finishes at UTMB. He also holds the FKT on the notoriously demanding S.C.A.R. route in the Smokies, and now has his sights set on a highly anticipated Western States 100 debut at the end of June.
Off the trail, Canyon brings a deep commitment to community and environmental work. He cofounded Dirtroad Organizing, a nonprofit focused on empowering the next generation of progressive rural organizers, and his writing has appeared in some of the country’s most celebrated publications.
“Trail running fascinates me as a means to explore landscapes,” he says. “Physical ones, of course, but more so those that defy articulation: of the mind and body, of relationships and of community.”
