bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Weatherproof

2.5-layer H2No® Performance Standard shell fabrics are completely waterproof, windproof, breathable and highly packable for backpacking, alpine climbing and backcountry skiing. They combine a water-repellent shell fabric with a waterproof/breathable membrane and a protective top coat barrier without needing a protective lining fabric. A raised print layer is applied to decreased layering friction and increase moisture management.

2.5-layer H2No® Performance Standard shell fabrics are coated with DWR
(durable water repellent) fabric finish that repels light rain and snow. In conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

All products bearing the H2No mark have been vigorously tested for durability in our 24 Killer Wash.

Men's Torrentshell Jacket is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 95.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything you need, nothing you don't Great shell that got me through this record breaking wet NorCal winter. I found it runs a bit more fitted than other jackets so I went up a size. I'm normally a M, but returned that and went L for a little more coverage and so I can wear it in colder weather with a lightweight down sweater under it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Cut. I bought this jacket to head into spring snowboarding, as well as classic PNW shoulder season storms, to stay dry and hopefully be able to layer up. So far, both have easily been accomplished. Slightly longer cut on the sleeves and waist make for perfect layering options with the Performance Better Sweater, and keep the insides dry in moderate storms. The two tone coloring is great with any earthy colored gear. The only complaint so far is the lack of the ubiquitous chest pocket. Fortunately, this flaw is compensated with comfortable and epicly long penguin slides down your favorite corn snow blue run!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Closer to the prior year Rain Shadow This is the most similar to the older Rain Shadow jacket. It works great, fits great, but sure is noisy. Noise doesn’t effect performance, but sure wish it could be quieter. Love the red color.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from men's torrentshell jacket I have usually used a women's Torrentshell, but they have been recut to fit close to the body. I do not want a rain jacket clinging to me and I want the extra space to be able to add a warm layer underneath sometimes. So even a women's XL does not work. A men's L is fine. The problem that I wish you could solve is the way the interior lining begins to flake off after a while, when the rest of the jacket is still perfect. Please fix this bonding problem.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A very good jacket, which could be superb if only: I bought this jacket a year ago, and I wear it almost every day in the colder months (New York). I use it both for urban travel to the office, and for hiking and other outdoor winter activities. I love how lightweight though solid the entire jacket feels, and aesthetically (I own the charcoal color) its contrast with the inner whiteness has a certain beauty to it. The fit is excellent for me, and I used the hood in 40+ mph winds and it functioned expertly. Here is where it can improve: the material is loud. You are never walking alone with this jacket... even in deep forests, you will be accompanied by a pretty loud and distracting sounding material that's a bit like crumpling up a paper bag. I never liked it, but it may be lessoning. Either i'm getting used to it, or it's dampened over the year I'm not certain. But I would still call it loud, and I still don't like it. To me, its the major reason why you may not want to buy this jacket. Second, there are only two pockets (could't we add just one more, maybe for tissues on the inside?) and they are slightly too shallow. Several times I've had my glasses case fall out of the pockets, and this is a clear negative. The men's better sweater vest, as a point of comparison, is larger and I never have this problem. Yes, I would buy this again.. but I'd love to get these changes to the product and make it simply exceptional.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for travel I travel 48 weeks a year for work. I spend most of my time in North America with occasional trips to Europe or Asia. Even though I have an XXL, the Torrentshell packs down to a ridiculously small roll (about the size of a can of soda). It also weighs next to nothing so it disappears into my bag until needed. It has never let me down, keeping me dry in heavy rain and wind. The hood is absolutely perfect. In all the jackets I've ever owned or tried on, I've never found a hood that so simply adjusts to perfectly protect my head without impairing my vision. It is super stable and doesn't flap around and does an excellent job sealing out the weather when cinched down. The jacket also breathes exceptionally well, yet doesn't feel drafty. If I could change one thing, I'd want a chest pocket to stow glasses or other small items. I'd be ok with it inside or outside the shell. Even without the extra pocket, this has been the best rain gear I've owned. The little details make all the difference - the zipper covers are notched at the bottom to facilitate starting the zipper easily, and the storm-flaps never jam the zipper yet do an outstanding job keeping out the rain and wind. I am 6'0", 250 lbs. and the XXL fits with enough room to layer underneath. I typically wear an XL in Patagonia regular fit items, but went with the XXL to provide flexibility with layering over both outdoor gear or a suit. 110% satisfied and highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works! I bought jacket and pants so I could keep hiking during No Cal recent deluge. keeps me dry and is comfortable to wear. Only complaint is hood is difficult to adjust. Good value for Patagonia quality. This jacket in yellow with yellow pants look sharp (I think)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not what I expected I bought this jacket because I wore out a Patagonia outer shell I purchased 25 years ago. It has been on a number of treks and around the world with me several times. So, I expected better quality when I ordered this jacket. The zippers in this jacket are difficult to use. You have to be really careful, pull down hard and look at the pin and catch to make sure it is inserted all the way, and then check to make sure the over flap is not in the way every time you try to zip up the front. When you try to zip up the pockets, you have to pull down on the jacket directly below the pocket with your other hand and keep it taunt or the pocket will just bunch up and jam. Not what you want to be doing in the pouring down rain. Never had these problems with my old jacket. The zippers still work fine. This is the last time I'll make an online purchase.
