Featherweight, emergency storm protection for light-and-fast alpine endeavors, the Alpine Houdini® Jacket disappears when clipped to your harness, then deploys to shed wind and precip when your weather window closes.

The problem is that you never see it coming on the Diamond. One moment you’re climbing vertical, east-facing granite at 13,000 feet. The next you’re staring at heavy, dark clouds boiling over the summit from the west. Seconds later, lightning cracks. The Alpine Houdini® has an ultralight 100% nylon ripstop shell with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish and a waterproof/breathable membrane that serves the simplicity crucial to alpine rock climbing – and its afternoon thunderstorms. It's emergency rainwear for climbing that also blocks wind, traps your heat on chilly belay ledges, packs into a single internal chest pocket (with clip-in loop) and seals up with elastic wrist cuffs and a single-pull drawcord waist. With helmet-compatible, single-pull adjustable hood.
  • Highly water-resistant woven nylon shell, with laminate membrane and DWR (durable water repellent) finish holds a 10,000mm water column
  • Taped seams throughout entire garment
  • Full-zip hooded jacket has minimal interior storm flap and single-pull adjustable, helmet-compatible hood that rolls down and stows
  • Zippered, interior left chest pocket doubles as self-stuff pouch with streamlined shape and carabiner clip-in loop
  • Elasticized cuffs and a minimal single-pull adjustable drawcord hem seal out weather
  • Shell: 1.5-oz 20-denier 100% nylon ripstop, with a waterproof/breathable membrane and a DWR (durable water repellent) finish
  • 158 g (5.6 oz)
  • Made in Vietnam.

Water Resistant

(durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Women's Alpine Houdini Jacket is rated 4.25 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect tag-a-long, always Fit: this is a jacket you want to fit properly. I had ordered a medium, and exchanged for a small (5'8" 140) Expected perk: light

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pros: lightweight, packs small, waterproof in a light rain, wicks sweat away from your body, great colors. Cons: Non-breathing - the inside of the jacket is soaking wet after a run. Biggest con for me though is lack of pockets. This, to me, is super annoying. The only pocket is the inside breast pocket that's useless to put anything in - only use is to stow the whole jacket. Very rarely give anything Patagonia a bad review. I want to love this jacket but I just don't. Had I not gotten this on sale, I definitely would have returned it as I don't feel it's worth the price tag. For reference, I am 5'4", 115lbs and bought a small. Plenty of room for layers but what I bought it for was to run in - not necessarily when I would want room for layers. Could have used an extra small. As long as I'm here and being picky, I really really wish Patagonia would change the hang tab at the collar on all their garments. Every time I go to hang any of my Patagonia jackets/sweaters/etc, I have to put everything down, use two hands to open the silly vertical tab to hang the thing up! Make it horizontal!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great all round rain and wind layer I was looking for a lightweight rain jacket that would fold up small yet provide protection for unexpected rain showers/wind, but without the bulk (and cost) of full-on Goretex. I started with the Houdini but it was paper thin and just didn't seem like quite enough. I finally settled on this jacket and it fit the bill perfectly. I've worn it running in a light mist (not super breathable but still fine) and golfing in a cold wind. It's perfect really. Fit is true to size - I switch between small and med in Patagonia, depending on whether I want room underneath, and the med is perfect. Highly recommend this jacket.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great protection Love my new rain jacket. Lightweight, adjustable hood, all works great. Would love more if it had pockets and if it really did stuff into its inner pocket. I should have gotten a medium to fit better over layers. Got a small like I usually do in other wear. 5'6", 123lbs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice! I am 5'1" and 115. I order size S and it fit nicely even over a couple other layers. I took this to Hawaii and wore it on a Kayak trip with caves and dripping water. It was great even though I didn't zip it up!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Jacket for those 'Uh-Oh' Moments This is a great jacket for those moments when you are 20 miles away from home on a ride and it all of a sudden starts downpouring. It folds up very small, small enough to jam in the back of your jersey and save yourself from getting soaked. This jacket is also great for stashing when those rides get long and the temperature drops. Also very handy for hiking and running as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Multi-Use Shell For those who need a waterproof lightweight shell this is the ticket. Brilliant breathable compactable perfection. Used for endurance riding, long runs, climbing, and driving the tractor! Well worth the cost. Don't ever change the design or fit. Am 5'2" and use a med so I can fit a Nano or sweater under it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super light weight and great value Bought this jacket as a stylish, light-weight option for rainy days. It's super easy to pack for a day trip to the park or the baseball field, and is also a perfect option when packing light for a trip that may include rainy days.
