UPF Fabric

Lacking fur, feathers or scales, we humans have to think up clever ways to protect ourselves from the sun. Products with the UPF designation provide built-in sun protection that won’t wear off.

To achieve sun protection, Patagonia takes a varied approach, depending on the degree of protection desired and the fabric used. Elements of the strategy can range from yarn selection to fabric construction to the use of special finishes (especially for light colors which generally provide less protection).

Water Resistant

DWR (durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Men's Gi Iii Pants - Short is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for the portly, but active person I am 5'8", 230 and constantly on the lookout for quality active-wear clothing. I have bought many pairs of Patagonia baggies, but never long-pants, because the inseam is always too long for my waist/trunk needs. Finally, these pants fit the bill beautifully. The cut is "regular", meaning comfortable in the trunk, but not baggy in the legs. The inseam is perfect for me (I typically wear 29-30"). The elastic waist with integrated belt holds the pants in place. I have worn them jogging and hiking, and they also look finished enough to wear around town for shopping and errands. I initially bought the grey color, and later the khaki. I expect them to last a long time. I would love to see more Patagonia pants, shirt, and coat choices (not-so-long sleeves!) geared to "portly", but active folks like me.
