Our Sandy Cay Shorts are tougher than a cheap carne asada, yet unexpectedly cool and light. The quick-drying 3.5-oz 100% nylon taslan fabric with 50+ UPF sun protection takes care of the weight—or lack thereof—and a double fabric layer on the high-wear leg-front zone ensures serious durability. Two mesh-drained slash pockets in the front, two pockets (one drop-in and one zipper) on the back and a bonus drop-in utility pocket on the right thigh provide ample storage. And if you’re packing more gear than the comfy, elastic-back waistband can handle, the belt loops are always there for backup. Inseam is 11".

Men's Sandy Cay Shorts - 11 In. is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great shorts for hot weather These got a lot of wear during a recent trip to South Texas. I lived in these shorts and one other pair for 10 days of traveling and renovating my daughter's house. The fabric avoids clinging when out in the 100 degree temps, dried fast when washed and hung on the clothesline, and resisted staining when we were cleaning or painting. The fit is comfortable, and length is good. I have a 36" waist, and found the Large to be a good fit for me. Loose enough to encourage airflow without becoming baggy and shapeless. The two hand pockets are deep enough to keep things from falling out, and I liked having two rear pockets, one with a zip and one with a velcro tab. However, the right thigh pocket is simply too small. My phone barely fit in it, and that's an iPhone 5 - one of the smaller smartphones out there. This pocket needs to be deeper. The thigh pocket closes with a velcro tab instead of a zip, but I don't consider that a deal-breaker. That's the story. Pretty nice shorts for traveling in warmer conditions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great shorts, but iPhone 6 won't completely fit These are the typical Patagonia quality that we all know and love. I will keep these shorts, as the fit is true to size and fits perfectly. But, for us guys, we use the thigh pocket primarily for our beloved cellphones, and the thing vecro pocket on these will not completely enclose an iPhone 6 with a very small case. You can get the phone completely in there, but the Velcro will then not close. Patagonia, please make the pocket just a little longer! Also, I bought two pairs of 2015 shorts and the embroidered Logo has been replaced with a little nylon sewn on tag. This looks hokey to me, and looks like exactly what it is: a cheap tag added on almost as an afterthought. Not the Patagonia detail or quality I am used to, which is surprising. Go back to the embroidery, despite the cost (which is the Patagonia mantra we know and love). I will keep the shorts for sure, but these are two oversites that I was surprised to find when I put these on. PLEASE Patagonia, don't start taking shortcuts in the name of cost savings. Those of us loyal to you for 30 years buy your products because of your unfailing commitment to quality, regardless of cost or popularity. Please dont start waivering now. Thank you!
