General Summary: 

The Café Utility / Prep person is responsible for providing general support to the Café to ensure that foodservice runs cleanly and efficiently.  Main responsibilities will include: dishwashing, cleaning, food preparation and general equipment maintenance.  High standards of cleanliness and sanitation must be kept and a Food Handler’s card can be obtained with Patagonia’s help.  This role requires some flexibility of hours but requires daily punctuality and attendance.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide customer service in the dining space as needed, which may require cash register, stocking, fielding questions, and trouble shooting. 
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the Café space always, both in the kitchen and in the general dining space, per Health Department standards of cleanliness and sanitation.  This may include cleaning floor drains and broken wares.
  • Learn other aspects of Café duties to provide back up to other Café employees thus must exhibit strong teamwork skills.
  • Responsible for dishes and ensuring their complete cleanliness always.  This includes upkeep of the dishwasher machine with necessary chemicals and maintenance. 
  • Deep cleaning of equipment and storage areas on a scheduled or as needed basis.
  • Assist with Catering set up, breakdown, and follow up as needed.
  • Working knowledge of knife skills and kitchen preparation including breakfast prep, salad bar prep / dressings, other “mis en place.”
  • Communicate with team or other departments as needed to fix equipment or order supplies.

Physical Requirements:  

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds repeatedly, and carry for up to 50 feet.
  • Able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Bending and lifting throughout the day.
  • Ability to wash dishes for extended periods of time. 
  • Ability to work in a small physical space that can be loud at times.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years high volume dishwashing experience desired.
  • Working knowledge of food safety and handling regulations.
  • Excellent customer service skills, in person, on the phone and in writing.
  • Comfortable with team-based work structure; ability to demonstrate flexibility on the job.
  • Demonstrates initiative, is conscientious and provides complete follow-through on areas of responsibility.
