Read More Close
The Rio Gallegos Zip-Front Waders bring the convenience of a waterproof front TIZIP® zipper to the toughest, most puncture-resistant, waterproof/breathable waders that we know how to engineer. They're built from our tested-and-proven 4-layer H2No® Performance Standard fabric package, with single-seam construction that routes critical seams away from areas of high wear and a robust feature set that offers the highest level of comfort, performance and durability. A slightly trimmer profile around the hips, waist and chest provides an improved fit that still easily accepts layers for long, cold sessions, while the innovative internal suspension system allows easy conversion to waist height when you aren’t wading deep. Motion-oriented patterning through the crotch means it’s no problem to swing a leg over gunwales, and articulation in the leg is designed for moments when fishing brings you to your knees—like keeping a fish wet during the photograph and release. If you fish in and out of boats, you’ll also appreciate the flat-panel gravel guards: they drain water quickly while resisting abrasion and wear while hiking or wading. Our booties have a more anatomical, sock-like fit and are made from a denser 4mm neoprene that resists compaction better over the long haul and have a poly-grid lining for added comfort. Outside, there are two handwarmer pockets and two stash pockets with water-resistant zippers. Interior gear storage includes a waterproof, flip-out welded TPU pocket; two new drop-in stretch pockets; and two internal daisy chains for tools. Other fishing-friendly features: center-back hanger loop for easy drying; stretch wading belt with low-profile buckle; removable knee pads; and a raised Fitz Roy Trout logo tops it off. Field repair kit included.
Features

  • Innovative SSC (single-seam construction) seaming eliminates seams from highest wear points on inside of legs

  • Exterior organization: chest handwarmer pockets; two stash pockets with water-resistant zippers; laser-cut Hypalon® utility keeper on suspenders allows easy access to tools, nippers, etc.

Water Resistant

DWR (durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Weatherproof

Patagonia developed the 4-layer fabric construction for our waders to increase breathability and abrasion resistance, move moisture away from the body, and decrease the weight.

Our exterior fabrics are densely woven 100% polyester microfibers for durability and puncture resistance. On one side we apply our H2No® waterproof coating for waterproof/breathable performance. On the other side we apply a Hydrophilic laminate that pulls moisture away from the body so it can be passed out through the exterior shell.

To protect the hydrophilic laminate we use a soft polyester tricot lining that increases abrasion resistance yet maintains a soft, supple drape. Finally, we apply a DWR (durable water repellent) treatment as the first line of defense in keeping these waders waterproof.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just for SIZE.... Adding this review to applaud how impeccably sized my new waders are. These are simply the best-fitting waders I've ever purchased right out of the box. I'm kind of an odd build... 5'6" and 175#, stocky V-shaped torso, muscular thru the shoulders and chest, 43" across the nipple line Most of the time I find myself choosing a larger sized wader to accommodate the chest, only to have excess material thru the waist/hips/legs. First off, the SHORT fit waders are perfect for my 29.5" inseam..... excellent articulation at the knees and hips without excessive bagginess. Next decision was to choose between the medium and large. While the large appeared to be the more appropriate size on the chart for greatest "girth", I was concerned about ending up with too much material thru the waist/hips. I decided on the medium to get a trimmer overall fit. If they were too tight up top, I would simply return and order the large. Turns out my instincts were right and the medium fits PERFECTLY... with enough room in the chest for a hoody and a second heavy fleece pullover for those cold days.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Zip front waders are super comfortable Very pleased with the design. The zip fronts have made the "wader dance" less awkward. Easy to take on and off, and allows quick access when nature demands. I am happy that Patagonia kept the release buckles on the shoulder straps which allows even more convenience with the zip-fronts. The inside "stash" side pockets are a nice addition. The gravel guard cuffs are much improved in allowing water to drain out (compared to the older cuffs which held water in and was a slight delay when jumping in to drift boats). My only issue was "crotch leak" in less than 4 hours of steelheading. Seems that there was a poor seam seal in the construction of the waders. I updated Patagonia immediately and while they encouraged me to either send in the waders immediately for "warranty repair" (which would take weeks during their busy season = I would be waderless during steelhead season) or just DIY a seam seal on my own for this steelhead season then later send in the waders for assessment by Patagonia. With those 2 options, I chose the latter. I aquasealed the crotch but somehow the waders still leak a wee bit in the crotch area (maybe it's a delamination issue...I dunno. I don't have time to diagnose waders). I can survive summer and fall steelhead season with a damp crotch but will definitely have to be dry this winter. So back to Patagonia these go...I just wished the very comfortable waders would have done a better job of keeping the water out. Hate to be asked by my buddies "Ooo, new waders...how do you like them?" "Oh they're great but I had to already Aqua Seal the leak".

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The zip front is great I have had these waders for about a month and am loving the zip front as well as the obvious the zipper makes them easier to to get on and off. Time will tell but. These ma be the best waders yet.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fishing waders I used these waders on a recent fishing trip. The waders worked great and I am very pleased. It should be noted that the first time I used them the zipper grip broke in half. The material selected by your zipper supplier is subpar and should not break. If this happened to me I can be very confident Patagonia has had other complaints.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Men's "Short" Zip Front Great for Ladies, too. Although I am a lady, I have used zip front waders for years and these are by far the best. For comparison purposes, I bought two pairs at the same time: the (non-zip front) women's Spring River waders and these. By ordering a "short" pair of Men's they fit my legs perfectly, and have more room up top for bulky jackets and layers so that when I fish for salmon and steelhead in the cold I have plenty of room without feeling packed in my clothing. Also, a zip front is such much easier than wiggling out of the non-zip, tighter bibbed women's waders for stream side bathroom breaks. Happy to say the foot portion was not super huge so I don't have a lot of extra to bunch up around my foot. Last but not least - love the pouch for my iphone. Keeps my camera safe and makes on the river shots so easy and fun!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Waders These are a replacement for my old 16 year old Patagonia waders. These new waders are far above the original waders in quality. Improvements like knee pads and adjustable fold down are really nice. The zipper is absolutely waterproof. The shaped booties in 2 sizes are a blessing. No more having to fold up or cram that extra material into a boot. The only thing I would change is the location of the ziplock pouch inside the waders. Move a bit more to the side so it doesn't catch the zipper. But that's just being picky.
