Made to withstand years of hard-nosed work, our new Steel Forge Denim Pants fuse sturdy organic cotton with Dyneema®, the strongest lightweight fabric in the world. An advanced fiber that’s 15 times stronger than steel at the same weight—and used in ship ropes, crane slings and armored vests—Dyneema has allowed us to take a time-honored workhorse fabric and make it even more durable. Milled at Cone Denim, our innovative Steel Forge material is a burly, 12.-5-oz 92% organic cotton/8% Dyneema blend; the cotton is grown in the USA, and the fabric is dyed with a bio-based dye produced by Stony Creek Colors from natural indigo grown in the USA, replacing synthetic indigo dye and helping American farmers diversify their offerings. Cut and sewn in California, the pants have a roomy fit and gusseted crotch that provides a full range of motion for active work; the contoured waistband sits comfortably under a tool belt and has seven belt loops for extra heft if you’re hanging tools off your own belt. The doubled knees have bottom openings that accommodate knee pads and allow easy cleanout, and the wide pant legs can be worn over boots or tucked into boot tops in wet conditions. The function-focused pocketing includes two front drop-in pockets with horizontal gussets to hold a clip knife or tape measure; two drop-in back pockets; and drop-in utility pockets on each leg, sized to fit a large cell phone. A utility loop is located on the left hip. Inseam is 32”.

Organic Cotton

In 1996, with an increased awareness of the dangers of pesticide use and synthetic fertilizers in growing conventional cotton, we began the exclusive use of organically grown cotton in all of our cotton products.

The quality of organic cotton is equal to or better than conventionally grown cotton, yet organically grown methods support biodiversity and healthy ecosystems, improve the quality of soil and often use less water. Growing organically takes more time, requires more knowledge and skill, and, for now, costs more. But it’s worth it.

To ensure we are buying cotton that is organic as defined by the USDA’s National Organic Program, we require numerous certificates issued by an accredited third-party certification body for every step of the supply chain, from farm to factories.
