The Sierra’s superb Evolution traverse combines a chilled, pre-dawn start, high-altitude temperatures, and sometimes-frigid shade with a non-stop, all-day pace. Designed to manage the extremes of high-output exertion, our Capilene® Midweight fabric hits the sweet spot of weight, breathability and wicking that is the essence of versatility worn alone or with additional layers. It keeps you dry and comfortable when worn during high-exertion activities in cool-to-moderate temperatures and insulates beneath a shell in cold weather. Constructed with a Polartec® Power Grid™ fabric, it has a smooth face for easy layering and a brushed-back grid that aids in wicking as well as warmth. The fabric has 33–66% recycled-polyester content and is treated with Polygiene® permanent odor control. Features include a flat waistband with brushed inner elastic for next-to-skin softness, a gusseted crotch for mobility and flatlock seams to minimize chafing.

bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Women's Capilene® Midweight Bottoms is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 30.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Did the job, but smelly. Wore these to hike during winter in Patagonia, and they did the job. They are super warm and wick away sweat, but are still breathable. However, any smell of sweat seemed to be trapped in the material.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm and good fit! I have bought a size XS. I am 104 lb, 5'2", W 26" and H 34". It is a perfect fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfy & warm base layer Bought these this winter and have been very satisfied. I have used them for snowboarding, snowshoeing, snow camping, camping, and hiking. They kept me warm and stayed comfortable over extended use. Only thing I would change is to have a slightly longer inseam.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from super warm, nice high waist very comfortable, worn on a cold ski day. No thick seams and very warm.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good skiing baselayer I use this as a baselayer for backcountry skiing beneath shell pants. It's a good weight for most conditions except the very hottest & very coldest; on the coldest days I wear a 10+ year old pair of fleece Patagonia leggings (I wish Patagonia still made those!). At 105 lbs and 5'2" the XS fits great but the waistband is a bit tighter than on previous versions of these capilene bottoms. I hope it gets a bit more comfortable as it stretches out because I don't think the next size up would be a good fit in the legs. Hence, the 4*.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Gorgeous color, wish there was more stretch Bought these in the blue/yellow combo, the color is gorgeous. Sadly, I am returning these because they don't have enough stretch. I like my base bottoms to fit snuggly and I want these to have a bit more give. Please add some stretch and I will buy 5 pairs!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just Right! Replaced my 20+ year old Capilene long underwear with these last month. They are perfect- comfortable, right size and seams don't bother me in my ski boots!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A little baggy, but still effective Works great as a baselayer under regular or athletic clothing. I think I ended up between sizes and wound up with a pair too big for me, but despite not fitting closely, they still don't bunch and keep me warm!
