Patagonia Boulder Awards $5,000 to The Women’s Wilderness Institute

Patagonia Boulder is proud to announce its sponsorship of The Women’s Wilderness Institute’s 2008 Girls’ Leadership Course, a 12-day backpacking and rock climbing expedition for high school girls. The Boulder-based institute used the grant to make the course more accessible to girls who might otherwise not be able to afford it. Three girls received full scholarships, one a 75% scholarship and another a half scholarship. Course curriculum includes Leave No Trace skills, along with land management and forest management discussions. The goal is for the girls to demonstrate leadership in protecting and improving the environment and our world.

The Women’s Wilderness Institute is a 10-year old nonprofit organization that’s made its mark by offering outdoor adventures designed specifically for women and teenage girls. Its mission is to build courage, confidence and leadership by providing them with opportunities to explore the wilderness in their own style.

The institute also has terrific volunteer opportunities for folks in the Boulder community. And a few spots are still open for 2008 summer courses. Adult women also can choose from more than 50 different courses, including rock climbing, fly fishing, backpacking, mountain biking, wilderness yoga, canoeing, outdoor photography and writing, plus retreats for survivors of cancer and domestic violence.
