bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Water Resistant

DWR
(durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from No longer has dark underbill :-( I've had this hat for years and love it. Unfortunately recently lost it, ordered replacement and discovered that latest version does _not_ now haved ark underbill. Called customer service, which confirmed that online description touting that feature is out of date. If you're on water or in desert, dark underbill really reduced reflection into eyes. Hope that feature will be restored. In meantime returning hat.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Loooooong Bill This hat, like all patagonia gear, is constructed very well. The bill is HUGE though. Like way too long. I understand wanting great sun protection, but this is just too much. It's too bad because the rest of the design is great. The bill is a deal breaker. I'll be returning this hat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Functional and cool I used this on a 4 day backpacking trip in the high sierras, and I felt like it really protected me. It's seriously light, easy to roll up and store, and has a pretty long bill. It looks cool too. With friends who just had a baseball cap and handkerchief, they would have to spend time orienting their stuff. Pros: Great protection, fits well, tightens for windy hikes. Cons: If you get the light color, it gets dirty fast and that shows. Overall I think it's worth it to invest in a hat like this for ease of use and great protection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Seems useful and comfortable. I returned my Bimini cap. I ordered it to wear fly fishing. I liked the color (very pale blue-gray), the material (seems like it would dry fast), the length of the back flap (would nicely protect my neck), and the long, dark-underneath-for-reduced-glare bill. Unfortunately, it did not fit me. I am female and have a large head (for a female) and I ordered the large size. I could cinch the back to make it "fit" - but it looked ridiculous (very "bunchy") and I am pretty sure a strong wind would knock it off my head. I also ordered a Sunshade Hoody (in the same pale blue-gray) that I can pull up over my trusty ball cap - I am keeping that and not even trying to re-order this in a smaller size. With this cap, I would still need to wear a buff for the front of my neck, but with the Sunshade Hoody, I can leave that at home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent protection for sunny and warm days This cap is excellent for sunny weather because it protects you all face, and neck. It is UPF 50 sun protection helps minimize exposure to UV rays, while COOLMAX fabric technology pulls moisture away from the body and enables perspiration to evaporate quickly. Insect Blocker technology provides a defense against biting insects like mosquitoes, flies, and ticks. An adjustable rear buckle with elastic for a secure fit.
