bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Odor Resistant

Polygiene® odor control permanently protects your garments from smelling like a middle school locker room. Sweat itself is odorless, but it creates the conditions that bacteria need to multiply, and some of those bacteria produce odors. Polygiene permanent odor control stops the growth of odor-causing bacteria on fabrics, so you can wear more and wash less.

Active only on the fabric surface, Polygiene permanent odor control does not interfere with perspiration or with the skin’s natural bacterial flora. Polygiene particles are more than 100 times larger than nanoparticles and therefore are too large to penetrate to the skin’s barrier. Polygiene-treated fabrics have received Medical Class 1 approval in Europe, the same class that includes bandages.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I needed This is the perfect jacket when you need to layer up, when it's super cold

Rated 2 out of 5 by from what's going on? I love my retro fleece XL i bought 1 year ago and when they went on sale I said let'sa "get another one". This one is much different. smaller, the pockets are a bit higher. I just seems smaller than an XL as I have known Patagonia for my whole life. p.s. I've lost 10 lbs since last year so I am actually smaller!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Warm and Wind Resistant I bought this from the web site in an XL, it was too big for me so back to Patagonia it went. Patagonia didn't have the jacket in my size so I bought it from another outdoor company in a large and I love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Warmth This is my third synchilla jacket. This edition is the best fitting. It is not as fluffy as its previous editions and the inner lining is more stiff, not as supple. It may get softer as it gets older. But I believe that lining provides a better wind barrier from the outside and heat retention on the inside. I do wish it had a private interior pocket. The chest pocket is big enough to hold my IPhone 6s Plus.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Warm, but short... Like this jacket, but really want to love it. Warmth is definitely there, as long as i don't raise my arms above my head. The waist rises almost to mid stomach. Really needs to be offered in a "Tall" size..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I LOVE THIS JACKET!!!! This is my second Retro-X jacket and it's the best. I can wear a T-shirt and this jacket when it's 15*F outside and be perfectly warm. It's even TOO warm when I'm in and out of the car. Yes, it's bulky but that doesn't bother me. I keep my cell phone in the front breast pocket. If it's really brutal outside and/or wet snow/sleet, I wear a shell over this for max protection, but usually I just wear this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent non-technical piece! The Men's Classic Retro-X® Jacket is a fantastic non-technical piece that I've owned for almost 12 months now. I've found it to be functional in spring, fall and winter, though I've most appreciated the Retro-X now, in the bitter cold of December in southwestern Pennsylvania - it's incredibly warm over an R1® Fleece Pullover! This jacket is clearly casual wear (and Patagonia explicitly categorizes it so), cut regular though somewhat bulky due to the very effective windproof membrane. However, I've worn it while hiking and birding and been happy with the jacket's performance. The vertical zippered chest pocket is large enough to accommodate a 5-inch+ smartphone, though I usually avoid stowing my wallet there because the pocket is exterior and my wallet is 3cm wide when placed vertically up against my chest. I'll usually just dump it into one of the zippered hand pockets, which are huge. In fact, I typically put the wallet into the left pocket and phone into right pocket and still have more than enough room in each for my hands and a set of car keys. The brushed poly mesh that lines the pockets is fine; soft enough on bare hands. However, I've noticed that it can snag anything with a non-rounded corner that you might carry. At hip length, the jacket itself is pretty comfortable to drive in, though it's thick and I actually have to adjust the position of my seat slightly if I'm wearing it. For reference, I'm 5'8" with a slim upper body / torso (former pro road cyclist). I love the look and feel of the jacket and think it's a good-looking piece in Natural with the blue accents. The fleece itself is pretty soft but the seams seem bombproof. I don't know if my version has the Polygiene® permanent odor control interior, but I haven't noticed it getting stinky, and it seems to take a wash well. My only complaint about the jacket is compression and wearing of the fleece around the sleeve cuffs just from normally daily use, and light pilling of the cuff trim itself. I've noted some other reviewers complain about issues with the YKK main zipper but haven't experienced any problem with mine. If I did I would simply send it back and ask Patagonia to either repair the zipper or replace the jacket. I have a Retro-X vest with huge sentimental value that's so old it has the non-mesh interior liner, and when one of the neck collar seams blew out in 2015, Patagonia repaired it at no cost and returned it pretty quickly. I bought this jacket with my own money, modestly on-sale from the Patagonia retail store in Boston, and I've written this review on my own time to share my experience with the Men's Classic Retro-X® Fleece Jacket. tl;dr: good looking casual fleece jacket that is very warm & windproof, with substantial "cargo" space. Recommended.
