Additional Information

For maximum durability, we make our work denim from a 92% organic cotton/8% Dyneema® blend. Fifteen times stronger than steel at the same weight, the innovative Dyneema fiber gives this work jacket exceptional strength for the toughest and most abrasive tasks; dyed with natural indigo, the fabric is made at Cone Denim with cotton grown in the USA.

Made to withstand years of hard-nosed work, our new Steel Forge Denim Jacket fuses sturdy organic cotton with Dyneema®, the strongest lightweight fabric in the world. An advanced fiber that’s 15 times stronger than steel at the same weight—and used in ship ropes, crane slings and armored vests—Dyneema has allowed us to take a time-honored workhorse fabric and make it even more durable. Milled at Cone Denim, our innovative Steel Forge material is a burly, 12.-5-oz 92% organic cotton/8% Dyneema blend; the cotton is grown in the USA, and the fabric is dyed with a bio-based dye produced by Stony Creek Colors from natural indigo grown in the USA, replacing synthetic indigo dye and helping American farmers diversify their offerings. Cut and sewn in California, the jacket has a traditional button-up design with large metal shank buttons on the center-front placket; a roomy cut and bi-swing back provide ease of movement through the shoulders and arms. The front features a left drop-in chest pocket; a right chest pocket with button closure; two lower-front drop-in pockets with ample carry capacity; and two hidden side-entry handwarmer pockets set behind the cargo pockets. The cuffs and waist are finished with a double-button adjustment to personalize the fit.

Note

Patagonia workwear jackets have a roomy fit compared to many of our other styles. Jackets are cut bigger than standard for ease over body and to leave ample room for layering. Men who have a leaner build or don’t wear bulky layers may want to order workwear jackets one size smaller than usual.

Organic Cotton

In 1996, with an increased awareness of the dangers of pesticide use and synthetic fertilizers in growing conventional cotton, we began the exclusive use of organically grown cotton in all of our cotton products.

The quality of organic cotton is equal to or better than conventionally grown cotton, yet organically grown methods support biodiversity and healthy ecosystems, improve the quality of soil and often use less water. Growing organically takes more time, requires more knowledge and skill, and, for now, costs more. But it’s worth it.

To ensure we are buying cotton that is organic as defined by the USDA’s National Organic Program, we require numerous certificates issued by an accredited third-party certification body for every step of the supply chain, from farm to factories.
