Saw this jacket in the cute rosebud color at the store. I really liked the fit--nice fit waist down with flexibility in shoulder/arms. I would try this on before purchasing if possible, the medium fits me perfectly at 56 130 lbs. I think the arms and hip length are longer than a standard R1.

This jacket would have been perfect for all outdoor activities, great fabric, great weight and almost a great fit. The fit was absolutely perfect except for the length which was long and narrow. I hope to see this reappear in the future and Ill try a different size. This jacket is just what I needed. It is perfect for those cool (but not cold) morning walks and if there is a chance of rain the hoody works great to fend off a light shower. So comfortable, perfect weight, love the stretch and durability. Its my go to jacket for hiking, biking and everyday use. Thanks again Patagonia for another quality item!
I love this 'jacket' so much I own 5 of them. I always buy them in colors what work with my wardrobe and will continue to purchase new colors if they work for me.
I'm not very tall but I have broad shoulders and ample chest, this jacket fits my upper body perfectly! I love the flattering lines with the length falling at the hips. The fabric is perfect for hiking as it protects against the wind and wicks moisture.
I got this to use as a springtime layer. I wanted something that was a little bit warmer than my Houdini, this jacket was perfect! It's a little big in the arms but otherwise is great. It's a little longer in length which I enjoy. I probably could have gone with a medium but I wanted a little extra room for layering.
This is my favorite piece of clothing ever, going on 3 years. This jacket has completely changed fleece layers for me. I absolutely hate when clothing is restricting, and this is so flexible and comfortable that I hardly notice Im wearing it- perfection. I actually have two of these now, one size small and one size XS. Ive had the small for a couple years; its an awesome top layer in shoulder season or warm winter days, but it also layers so wonderfully under my down sweater, vests, or any other top layer. Im usually an XS in Patagonia but Id say I often fall in between sizes (XS and S) and the small in this jacket allows more room for thicker base layers underneath, and the sleeves cover my wrists/hands a little better. It still lays nicely on my body and doesnt look too big or baggy. But I decided to snag an XS on sale as well because its closer to my body which feels warmer when I use it as a top layer, and I just love and wear this jacket so much that I wanted to have a second one. The only thing about the XS for me is that the sleeve length is almost too shortits technically not bad and maybe preferable when its used as a mid layer, but if Im trying to wear a thick wool base layer under this, the cuffs get a little bunched up. Overall I couldnt be happier with both jackets, and my husband also practically lives in his R1 Techface Hoodie. The techface is amazing, so that I dont have dog fur and every little fluff or leaf sticking to the jacket, plus it makes for a sharper look, and very easy layering. I hope Patagonia never stops making this jacket!
I have several Womens XXL Patagonia jackets. I assumed this would be a hooded version of the R2 and it is not.

Best Jacket Ever
I am 59, 145lbs with an athletic build and bought a medium. I could have gotten away with a small, but like how I have room to layer under the medium. Having worn it for a full year, I can say it is truly my favorite jacket Ive ever owned. Having a long torso and long arms, I appreciate the extra length in those areas (though it might not work for ... Read Moreyou if you have a short torso or arms). I wear a wool base layer under it for XC skiing and tech tees under it for cool hikes. I love how high the collar is when zipped and how easily it repels light rain (have not tested it in a downpour, though I dont think thats its intended use). Overall, this jacket is amazing and I look forward to wearing it for many years!!
Perfect layer for winter running/ski touring/fall mountain biking
Love this piece. Perfect amount of protection and breathability for winter running and ski touring, and mountain biking in colder temps. Also super durable: have worn this jacket almost every day I do something active for the past year and no tears or break down yet.
Love the coat but the slim is very slim. In addition to this style I would like Patagonia to manufacture the tech fleece in more of a traditional shape -meaning shorter in body length and not as tight in the hips for people who want a less snug fit. Thanks!!
I live in the south and on our cool days, say in the 50s, I use this layer when bouldering. The fit is ideal for activity. It's a bit longer so doesn't expose skin when stretching and does not encumber my movement. I also use this frequently on bike commutes to work; on a cool day it cuts the wind. I love that the hood fits under my helme... Read Moret and the collar zips up to the chin to keep me warm. If I need an extra layer of warmth I pair with the nano vest. This keeps me warm those 30-40 degree morning bike commutes along the Mississippi river in New Orleans.
This jacket is perfect for running in a cloudy day without feeling cold or hot. I feel it keeps me warm but lets some air in. Its not a wind jacket but I take it for running. I wish it could be folded and wrapped in a ball like the wind jackets so it can be easily packed away but I understand fit might be a bit big for that.
Love the R1...this not as much. it's probably for only one very specific activity (which I have not figured out what it is). Favorite Layer
I love this jacket - it takes the lead for performance fleece for me. The technical outershell is a fantastic fabric & helps keep the wind off. I like the length and the fit of this jacket. I dont have much for hips, but if you do, the fit might be a bit tight with the length. Favorite jacket for me though - would reccomend.
I love this jacket for autumn running. Its light, but warm enough, especially when paired with a base layer. Its also great for days when its misty/lightly raining because of the tech face exterior. Patagonia, please keep making these!!
I own several Patagonia jackets/sweaters (all size M) and I'm always more than impressed with the quality of the products. This jacket is no exception. However, because it is slim fit and just a little longer than other fleece jackets, there was no wiggle room around the waist and basically accentuated the entire area (e.g., any insecurities y... I like the extra length to this jacket, so that it covers my rear end. Appreciate the pockets and hood. The only thing that would make this jacket perfect is having thumb holes in the long sleeves.
Yesterday I got attacked by a dog and the dog grabbed on to my arm like a chew toy. It was a tough battle but I finally got him off. This is actually my second time purchasing this jacket. It is that great. First: the fit is stellar. I sometimes wear it to uphill ski if I'm by myself doing laps and not stopping. In the summer, it's great for rock climbing as it is warm enough and windproof enough to stop the breeze, but not so warm as to make me sweat to death. Finally: super durable. Use your whole body in that chimney, this jacket will make it through. Have a bike crash and slide on pavement, the shirt underneath somehow ripped, and the jacket was minorly abraded. Great jacket. Got a second just because I wanted a different color (with fewer food stains for those 'formal' occasions).
I love this jacket. I ski patrol full time and I wear this every day to work and under my uniform jacket.
The rest of the year this jacket is a great windbreaker and even a good rain jacket for running errands.
I love it!
Great light jacket. Perfect for everyday use, travel and sport. The techface material makes it really nice to wear while climbing and hiking. I don't have to worry about the material snagging on rock, brush, or catching on my backpack.
It's not too light, it's not too heavy, it's absolutely JUST RIGHT for keeping me warm when it's windy and drizzly by the sea. It's highly functional, which I consider hearty ... yet it has a soft feel which makes me want to grab it from the closet before I go for something else. Love it!
I theoretically would like to shop Patagonia for all my outer wear clothes. But for some reason, the womens clothing is all made super skin tight. Perfect light weight warmth
Love my R1....warm without the bulk. Warm on a very cold day layered but also a great light weight jacket on a cool afternoon.
So far I have been extremely impressed with this product,s fit, warmth, and breathability. There is enough room in the shoulders for comfortable movement without looking awkward or baggy. Slim-cut
Liked the fabric, weight and color. However the fit did not work, too narrow in waist for me, so had to return.

Great for Shoulder Season Outerwear
This jacket is phenomenal as outerwear during wet spring/fall. It protects against light rain well and is quite breathable. The fit is roomier than a typical mid-layer. The cutting is a bit strange. It runs longer than most light weight jacket. It fits very tightly around lower tummy. Overall the jacket does not flattering my figure. I like the fabric because its very thin. Just wish the cutting is more snug around the waist and more roomy for the tummy.
Overall- great jacket that meets a need in my wardrobe. It is super lightweight and comfortable, and provides a surprising amount of warmth and protection from wind and drizzle. I ordered the purple originally and sized up per the reviews. It was the correct choice for me, but the color was not what I wanted. I exchanged for the same size in black and it was huge! The jacket performs as its described - ive been using it as an undercoat in below zero weather and it is the right amount of warmth and thickness. Being a woman though I wish the design was a little more curvy so its not so snug around the hips.
I use my R1 on repeat, in a variety of settings/ year round. I love this item. I wear the R1 in a small and most other items in a medium. It is a body slim fit that I wear under vests, puffers or stand alone. Lots of stretch and longer cut make it flattering.
I would give it 10 stars if I could! Ive had this jacket for about a year now and I wear it all the time! I think that this might replace them all as my daily driver. The fit on this is a bit looser and longer than the regular R1 jacket, which I appreciate because I am quite tall. The arms are the appropriate length on me. The bottom hem is long enough that I wont be exposed while bent forward on my bike. And even though the fit is a bit more roomy it fits under a climbing harness just fine. I also like that I can wear a thicker baselayer without feeling bunched up by the layers. I would say this is a similar cut to the Alpine R1 that has the longer waist and arms. I really love the hood on this compared to the other R1s. I can fit my climbing and biking helmets under the hood easily. The outer fabric reminds me of the Houdini Air jacket, but stronger. The fleece pile is lower than the standard R1. I don't think this will make it any less warm as the softshell fabric will help insulate by cutting the wind. I have struggled to layer well for all my activities since moving to Seattle. Its frequently cold here, but not too cold. Its also wet, but not always pouring. The nano air hybrid used to be my favorite layer....until I moved here and it just doesn't work for me in this climate. Hardshell jackets just make me sweat a ton and softshell jackets are either too warm or not warm enough. I think that this is going to fill the gap between all my layers. One last point....this Catalan Coral color is AMAZING. Patagonia, thank you for putting a womens color out there that hasn't been made "cute" or "girly" (not that theres anything wrong with the pink and teal, it just isn't my thing). This coral is a perfect blend of bright red and orange and looks like it was pulled out of the mens line whose colors I often admire.
FYI the hand pockets on this jacket are on the smaller side. They are narrow in depth but roomy vertically. When putting my hands in the pockets they have to be balled into fists. But the good news is that things like a map fit perfectly without being crushed.
I love this layer so much. It's very versatile and works well as an outer layer for higher-exertion workouts/activities in cold climate. It also fits nicely under a puffy as a mid-layer.
